  • Episode 185: Parental Relationships From A Spiritual Perspective with Laura Powers

This is an incredible episode that you’re going to want to share with a friend, so make sure to do that.

Actually, if you have a friend that has a challenging relationship with their parents, pause and send this to them now. I’ll wait.

    Laura Powers, Celebrity Psychic

Laura is an entertainer, celebrity psychic, actress, model, host, singer, writer, and speaker. She is the host of the popular film and television podcast, “Behind the Scenes with Laura Powers,” and her top 100 podcast on Apple Podcasts, “Healing Powers Podcast.” She is the author of 7 books and editing two other books that will be released in 2020. She travels full time for clients, television and other media appointments, and for the love of traveling. Laura has been featured on several television channels and networks including BuzzFeed, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, The CW, The Jet Set, and many others. She was recently interviewed by Will Ferrell on his podcast, “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.”

    Some of my favorite takeaways:

You don’t have to do things alone. You have a spirit team and you can hire people to help you in different areas.

We are always learning something and we are always teaching something

Our souls are different ages and maturity.

Energy boundaries are connected to financial security.

Often when you feel funky or have an off day, it’s a great indicator that something really great is coming.

Books: Your Soul’s Plan by Robert Schwartz and Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson

All of Laura’s books would be wonderful to read, however, starting with Angels: How to Understand, Recognize, and Receive Their Assistance by Laura Powers

  • Episode 184: How To Start Talking About Racism with Loki Mulholland

Share this episode with one friend.

I know this is a long one. It is worth it. Break it up if you need to. It will be here for you to come back to and listen until you finish. Keep taking or start taking action that speaks to you.

And remember, you can have uncomfortable and/or hard conversations.

Loki Mulholland joins me today to give us some guidance around our conversations around racism. I am beyond grateful and honored to share space with him and have this conversation.

Loki Mulholland is an Emmy-winning filmmaker, author, activist and son of civil rights icon, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. His work has received over 40 Telly Awards and his films on race and social justice issues have won 16 Best Documentary awards. His first book, “She Stood For Freedom” was nominated for the 2017 Amelia Bloomer Award. Loki is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and speaks all over the country on issues of race and social justice. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation which was created to end racism through education.

I had so many takeaways and I hope you do as well. I want to make sure now that I know more, that I helpfully do more.

I probably mess up or make mistakes a million times in this conversation. The point is, I’m having it. I’m willing to learn and apply what I learn.

Please join the conversation and let me know something you learned from this conversation and that you want to apply to actively engage against racism.

Some great takeaways, but you’ll find more:

If you want to diversify your circle, include your social media, movies you watch, books you read, the music you listen to, the art you hang on your walls, where do you go on vacation, ect. Diversity is more than just color, it also includes religion, viewpoints, favorite foods. You get the picture. Have people in your life that are not the exact same as you.

I used the word “different” a few times. Loki suggested that taking out the word “different” would be helpful because that can indicate what is “normal.”

Silence can be seen as affirmation or agreement to what is being said.

When you encounter a “Karen” make sure to befriend the person being target by the Karen. Be the barrier.

It can be helpful to ask people questions and meet them where they are at.

Talk about love vs. hate (Ruby Bridges)

Teach your kids not to be racist.

    There is always hope.

White people are the first step in ending racism.

Focus on changing the world you are a part of vs. the world. “Don’t try to change the world, just change yours.” “Bloom where you are planted.”

The something you can do, matters. Don’t do nothing.

Understand American history and be willing to ask questions.

Vote. It actually matters. Vote in the elections and with your dollars.

Do what’s right even when it’s hard.

  • Episode 183: Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.

And a special shout out to all you single dads showing up like rockstars (in a good way… not the drunk and high and never on time way)… okay maybe not rockstars. How about showing up like the best dad ever.

Like most people, my dad holds a special place in my heart. He is who I practiced being really honest with, who I had hard conversations with, he taught me that life is meant to be enjoyed. and to accept yourself. I super appreciate that type of relationship.

After my parents got a divorce, I eventually moved in with my dad. In my opinion, single dads don’t get enough attention or credit. He didn’t receive child support or any other form of assistance. And I worked to help pay for myself to do things, including sports, vet bills for my dog (that my dad surprised me with one year for my birthday after I had been begging for one for years), and even some medical visits.

We had a great time. He spent so much time with me. Eating dinner together, playing games with me and my friends. He was really involved. Moving away to college was hard to say goodbye. He cried but hid it from me. But I knew. I cried too. It was a big change, but an exciting one.

He has only met my son one time for one day. I realized a couple of years ago, I’ve been gone from home longer than I lived there. My dad and I don’t see each other often, we text here and there, and talk on the phone every once in a while. Though I know he loves me and he loves me the best he can.

Some of the best advice I ever received, I got from my dad when I was in middle school.

He told me that I had to express my anger. That I couldn’t hold it all inside. If I do try to hold it all inside, I would explode and burn everyone around me, like a little volcano.

This stuck with me. I didn’t really resemble the volcano, but I was definitely working through anxiety. It would still take me 10 years before I fully realized and accepted that I could give myself permission to feel angry.

Before I really let that set in and understand that anger didn’t make me bad or mean, it just made me human.

Apparently, I was on a mission to not be human. I thought I needed to be perfect and perfect people didn’t feel anger. Anger was the enemy. Anger made me like the cruel people in the world, so I feared feeling angry.

This fear of my own anger and other people’s anger made me a doormat. I was the queen of people pleasers and it was crushing my soul. I guess my dad could see this in me and didn’t want that for my life.

I did attempt to tell people when my feelings were hurt. This didn’t go well. Instead of being met with compassion, I was met with people calling me a baby, telling me I was too sensitive, and that I was the only one in the world who would be hurt by that action or statement.

I guess their parents didn’t talk to them about the importance of expressing emotions and hearing others. At the time, I believed them and I started to question my own feelings.

My dad always told me not to worry about them. That I was made of something else that they weren’t and it was good to be different. He knew I’d make it in life because of who I was, sensitive and all.

This father’s day, it made me think about you and how your dad has shown up in your life. The bad advice he has given you and the really good stuff you carry with you.

Or if you even know who your dad is or how involv...

  • Episode 182: Toxic Christianity Effects On Young Women

I wanted to have a conversation around the harms of toxic Christianity and the purity culture and the effects they have on young women.

My friend, Arielle, joins me today to talk about toxic Christianity and why we aren’t fans of it. Our conversation isn’t perfect, however, we wanted to start talking about how we are influenced and affected in negative ways by toxic Christianity. It’s important to start conversations, even if others think it could have been stated better. The point is, we are talking about it and opening up space for other women, any age, to start talking about it as well.

I encourage you to be aware of how you are judging others… I’m aware we are judging what we see as toxic Christianity. Progress, not perfection.

With that being said, the church is a place to go to feel supported, uplifted, loved, forgiven. Yet, so many people are being filled with shame and judgment, starting at such a young age and they carry those messages with them for a lifetime.

It deepens the message of “you are not good enough, you are innately bad” and we must pray for you, even though it is impossible for you to be pure at heart unless you’re a virgin on your wedding day.”

    Like, what the what???

    You are enough. Period.

Stop the shame by changing the dialogue in your head around your value and your choices. You are innately good.

  • Episode 179: Tips For A Deeper Connection With Your Animal & Healing When They Pass featuring Rose Proud

Rose Proud is a Certified Hypnotherapist and Certified Animal Communicator. She loves helping humans connect with their animals. She can communicate with every type of animal and has been loving providing this service for 18 years.

Today, Rose gives us tips on how to connect deeper with our animals and how to heal when they pass. I was so excited to talk with her to hear how we can heal and move through our grief of losing a fur family member. And how to make sure our connections are pretty fantastic while they are here cuddling with us.

Moments I feel a little bit like that emoji when you hit your forehead with your hand. 1. I keep calling her a “pet” communicator instead of an animal communicator. 2. I’m not really sure how to address my fish so I sound like a huge mess. LOL. Sorry for the disrespect little fish.
