  • Episode 174 Your Relationship Is A Place To Give featuring Adam Chiocca

*to listen from the blog post, please scroll to the bottom of the page

Author and Teacher, Adam Chiocca, recently finished his book tour sharing about his book, 50 Days To A Better Life.

Today he is going to share some of the relationship tips he has been using on his journey to recovery.

    Adam’s bio:

Adam Chiocca is speaking to us from his home in Massachusetts, where he lives with his wife and two sons.  He’s an author, teacher, speaker, and YouTuber, who recently completed a nationwide book tour, and appeared on TV morning talk shows.  In his first book, 50 Days to a Better Life, he shares some secrets to life and happiness that he discovered in just the last few years, as he overcame alcoholism.  Yes, he shares his story of getting sober, and how he was able to do it, in his book, and is very public about it, as he talked about his journey openly on TV morning talk shows.

He’s been teaching in the public school classroom for 15 years and is on a mission to educate parents, teachers and school officials about the common and rampant vaping problem, among so many teens.

In his book, he shares much life advice and wisdom, and we invited him on the show, to talk about some of the ideas he wrote about in one particular chapter, On Relationships.  We’re happy to have Adam Chiocca on our podcast, to get his take on what people can do if and when they aren’t happy, and might want to throw in the towel.  He encourages us to try a variety of possible solutions, before giving up, for he believes that we are meant to be in every relationship for a reason, and are meant to learn, grow and change from our relationships.

  • Episode 169: 10 Ways to Breakthrough Your Intimacy Issues

Steph, Any resources you have or know of about single people with intimacy issues?

First of all, thank you for reaching out. Intimacy issues are tough and very common. A lot of people will benefit from your question. Your bravery is impactful.

Though the answer to this really depends on the root of those intimacy issues, I’d say there are a few places you can start.

Second of all, let’s look at some signs of intimacy issues

    * When emotions come up in a relationship (or in general), you shut down* You aren’t showing up for your partner (or yourself) when they need you* Your relationships don’t last long and look the same* Committing to a relationship scares you* You stop wanting to have physical intimacy after you start to know your partner more

    1. The obvious resources would be to work with a therapist, professional hypnotist, or life coach to work with you through this issue.

When it comes to a therapist, you should know I really recommend Marriage and Family Therapists because they work with the lens of the entire system and that’s powerful.

    2. Sometimes we want to start at home and see if we can work through some of this stuff on our own. Books can be an awesome resource.

    Book List

I’d recommend starting with: Mating in Captivity by Esther Perel and the Self Love Workbook by Shainna Ali, PhD.

    3. Plus, I’d encourage you to sit down with a journal and answer some of these questions while you’re waiting for your first session or book to arrive.

    * What does trust mean to you?* What does trust look like?* Teach me how to not to trust someone. Write down everything you do to keep your wall up and others out. * Are you ready to let go of intimacy issues?* Who do you trust the most in your life? Write the story of how that came to be. * How much do you trust yourself?* When do you doubt yourself and others the most?* When do you know that you trust someone?* What has to happen for you to start to doubt someone?* What has to happen to replace trust with doubt?* What statements do you say to yourself when something happens and you begin to have fear or suspicion of someone?* How much trust do you need in a relationship to feel safe? Think of a scale 0 to 10. 10 being 100% and 0 is 0%. What brings your number up on that scale and what brings your number down on that scale? * Is it possible to be in a relationship and still have some independence for both people?* What are the benefits of an intimate relationship? Why is this something you want in your life?* What are the risks of an intimate relationship? * What can you do to prevent the risks?* When do you question if you’re good enough for someone?* When do you know you’re good enough and lovable?* When you’re in a relationship, when do you feel significant and have certainty?

    4. Pay attention to your own inner dialogue and if it is helping you to create a picture of mistrust of someone because you’re scared of feeling the pain and loss of being broken up with or because you’re actually seeing red flags that the relationship isn’t for you.

    5. I’d also highly encourage you to make a list of all the...

  • Episode 168: The Bachelor S24 E11 & 12 – Pilot Pete – The Finale

Oh, man. The finale has all the emotions going.

We got to have a two-night finale.

First, Madison and Hannah Ann meet Peter’s family and we finally see who Barbara is talking about.

She is really wanting Peter to get engaged to Hannah Ann. That’s who she was crying about in that preview this whole time.

Hannah Ann is so smitten with Peter.

Madison ends up leaving. Peter asks Hannah Ann to marry him only to tell her a month later that he couldn’t give her all of his heart. So their engagement was broken off.

Chris flies out to talk to Madison and finds out Madison wants another chance. Barbara doesn’t look happy about this.

Peter’s family doesn’t support Peter and Madison, however, Peter says he loves Madison and that should be enough. Madison makes no attempt to connect with his family.

It was pretty great that Madison was willing to walk away so that Peter could have the relationship that he did the Bachelor for.

PS. The wanting kids vs. not wanting kids was just an example in general, not an example specific to Madison and Peter. Their differences, as we all know, are around lifestyle and faith.

  • Episode 166: Bachelor S24 E10 – Pilot Pete – Women Tell All

*Link to listen to the podcast is at the bottom of the page

We start the episode off by saying goodbye to Victoria F.

And Hannah Ann and Madison accept roses and move forward to getting to meet Peter’s family.

Oh man, that was a heated Women Tell All. LOTs of division and difference of opinions on emotions and being real or fake or mature vs. childlike.

I was super impressed with both Kelsey and Vitoria F and their communication skills they brought to the show tonight.

And what a powerful ending with Rachel coming on to talk about the actual hate and harassment that the individuals receive in their comments and DMs. I only wish they would have given us a solution because I don’t know anyone who would write comments like that.

Next week is the 2 night live finale.

And then Listen to Your Heart starts April 13th. I bet Jed is so mad he was on the bachelorette and didn’t wait to get on this new way to find love. If only we could see the future!

Clare Crawley is the new Bachelorette.

I actually don’t know her story since I started watching with Colton’s season, but I guess I’m about to get to know her more!
