  • How To Brain Dump that Monkey Mind | BE Moment

My super power is seeing the opportunity in everything. And that's also my kryptonite!!

The normal person with a to do list, obligations, household task and a social life already feels pretty overwhelmed! You add on to that being an entrepreneur and you can fall into a black hole of options and opportunity that's SO overwhelming!

Monkey mind is a Buddhist term meaning "unsettled; restless; capricious; whimsical; fanciful; inconstant; confused; indecisive; uncontrollable".

    1. Brain Dump It - literally write down everything. Business ideas, people to send birthday cards to, household tasks. anything that has been bothering you…. get it on paper.
      1. It takes a LOT of processing to have all these windows open on your mental computer. It leads to …
      1. What are important and urgent?
      2. What can you put in the "parking lot" - for a rainy day.
    2. Important + Urgent OR parking lot
      1. See the patterns emerge.
      2. Categorize into action steps
    3. Categorize those important and urgent…..
      1. Cleaning your desk IS NOT one of them!!
    4. What could you do TODAY to eliminate some noise?
    5. What can you do THIS WEEK? THE FOLLOWING WEEK?

This will give you mental space, focus on what should be done first and a clear path to do it. Most importantly, it creates SPACIOUSNESS for you to get into flow.

  • Overcoming A Critical Diagnosis | BE Moment

I've been quiet for a few weeks.

We were waiting for some medical test results back for someone I love and it triggered me to a really difficult place. I didn't post on social media or record podcasts, because I was frozen in a place of not being able to move forward.

It was hard...not only waiting for the results but also the frustration of feeling like my life was on hold. And I'm SO glad that they came back well. But this pattern in my life has happened again and again, and I really dug deep to ask myself about how we are all receiving diagnosis or feedback of EVERYTHING constantly.

Cancer - 38.4% - someone I know, in my circle, will go through this again.

It's not the diagnosis, but how we address it, that ultimately creates what happens out of it. We can choose whether we look at it as a crisis or challenge. Are you allowing the diagnosis of where you are at in your business or in your life at to be your crisis or your challenge?

Are you saying "I can't" or how can I?

How often are we self diagnosing? Or going to someone who isn't credible to get an opinion?

You don't have the time. You don't have the resources. You're not experienced enough. You don't have the following. These aren't a death sentence on your dreams, they are the diagnosis of the person who is giving you an opinion.

The reality? Most negative opinions come from people who haven't had success in what you're doing. It seems impossible for them because they haven't done it, or haven't done it successfully!

If you ask someone who has done the things you want (balancing kids + a career, creating their own business, enriching their relationship), they'll tell you HOW they did it, the challenges they overcome and how you can do it. If you ask someone who hasn't, they'll give you every possible reason you can't, because that's all their brain + experience knows.

So recently, I was personally diagnosed with severe Mthfr. The Mother - f-er gene. Severe genetic mutation!!! - 30% of people have it, 10% have a severe form.

    Two thoughts - a crisis. I can't, I can't, I can't.

A challenge - what's the best methylfolate. How can I detox my body, since it doesn't do it the way it should?

    Tips:

    1. Stop seeing things as a critical diagnosis when they are really a challenge.
    2. Get the professional opinion of someone who is an expert because they've done it!
    3. Replace I can't with how can I. That will CHANGE the way you look at any challenge.

  • Don't Expect What You Won't Invest | BE Moment

Real talk….I woke up Monday morning feeling pretty crappy. Drank too much, stayed up too late, had been choosing tv over podcasts and hadn't honored my morning routine of meditation and movement. And I realized I AM RESPONSIBLE!

What goes in, most come out, so if you don't like what's coming out, change what's going in!

Two days later, I feel freaking great! I dialed up my nutrition, have 3 workouts in 3 days, am going to bed earlier and am spending the evenings on projects that excite me instead of Netflix and Chilling.

My business partner Molly wrote recently - You are rooted where you plant yourself! Growth doesn't merely happen. You need to sow the seed!! So where are YOU planting yourself to grow?

I hear SO many people say - I'll invest in my business ONCE I've made some money. I'll put in more time into my side hustle ONCE I see some results. I'll double down on my eating and fitness once I see my body change.

Time - You've got to make the tough choices because anything worthwhile takes TIME!! We can look at the highlight reels and think people are an overnight success but it JUST isn't so!

Choice - I made the choice to say a lot of no's, to give me the opportunity to say yes whenever I wanted.

Health - Are you treating your body like your car? Or Worse?

Body - What if sweat was the reward? Change your expectations!

Business: You won't make money unless you invest your time and your resources.

Relationships!! You'll get the support of others when you support them, and yourself!

    Inspiration

In whatever area you are ready to move your life forward, just ask yourself, how do you want to be? Then DO the things that the person you want to be would do!

  • No Pressure, No Diamond | BE Moment

Pressure can burst pipes, but it can also create diamonds!

Some of the best people I know have been through the worst situations. and it's polished them as human beings.

But how often are you putting positive pressure on yourself? The pressure to GROW. When we aren't creating healthy pressure for ourselves to grow, we grow stagnant!

3 Ways To Create Healthy Pressure!

    1. Commit to a BIG, scary goal! If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't grow you!
    2. Get Accountability! You want someone putting positive pressure on you!
    3. Invest in yourself and your business! It always pays off!

  • Finding Your Hive with Grace Kraaijvanger

This episode is EXTRA special because it's our 50th episode, Becoming You Podcast is 5 months old and we just celebrated 55k downloads!! And I couldn't think of a better guest than the woman you're about to have the pleasure of hearing from!

I was invited to a women's leadership and inspiration lunch last month at the Hivery, a drool worthy and inspiring co-working space just north of the San Fran golden gate bridge. I realized I'd seen photos of the Hivery, which has been featured in Forbes, Elle, Entrepreneur Magazine, US Today, SF CHronicle and more…...months ago and had been wanting to find an excuse to make the drive north ever since!

In person, the Hivery was even more magical and Bee-utiful than it looked online. It's a place you want to sit down with your laptop and latte and create your next big project or finish that book you've been wantin to write. It's no wonder their hashtag is #womendoingcoolstuff. And it was no surprise that the co-founder, Grace Kraaijvanger, was the source of all of this creative energy, inspiration and is all about helping women find their hive!. She is delightful!

As a former professional dancer turned mom and marketing executive, Grace was searching for a creative community to start her next chapter of life. In 2014, she founded the Hivery, a collaborative and creative co-working space where members can pursue their work, passions and next chapter! The Hivery is a literal and metaphorical space for people to find and create meaningful work outside of a traditional corporate environment.

By focusing on our inner being, Grace shares how she's designed her life by feel, and explains how everything we want is already inside us!

In addition to her role as the Founder & CEO of The Hivery, Grace is a motivational speaker, business mentor, and serves on the board of the SF Dance Film Festival and the Nasdaq YEx Advisory Board. She has spoken at high-profile events such as Watermark, The Girls Lounge at Dreamforce, and QuickBooks Connect, in addition to hosting countless Hivery events and gatherings.
