While the previous entry in the Friday The 13th series Part VII: The New Blood may have had a negative reviews and a mixed reception from fans, it's moderate success at the box office still proved that there was still more life in the franchise. Since the series had been experimenting with its approach to sequels at this point, Paramount Studios decided to finally take Jason Voorhees out of Crystal Lake and into the big city with its biggest budgeted entry yet: the 1989 sequel Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, which was the feature debut of its writer/director Rob Hedden (who also worked on the spin-off TV show Friday The 13th: The Series).

Joining your hosts to discuss this 8th entry are first-time guests Craig Martin (who teaches film theory ⁠at Swineburne University) and Marcus Wilturner (writer/contributor for ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠The Super Network⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠). After diving into some F13 fan films in the past on previous bonus episodes, your hosts Bede & Steve take a look at one of the earliest feature-length fan films of the franchise, which just happens to be centred around the Mother’s Day holiday: the 2008 fan film Friday The 13th: Mother’s Day from writer/director Corey Stevens. Welcome to episode 35 of Bede Vs. The Living Dead. The podcast where your host Bede Jermyn explores the remakes, re-edits, reimaginings, homages, unofficial follow-ups and more to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead across all media.

After the success of the Italian produced unofficial Dawn Of The Dead sequel Zombie a.k.a. Zombi in 1979, it both instantly made its director Lucio Fulci a even bigger household name in horror and kickstarted the Italian zombie film boom in the '80s. Ironically, some of which even became unofficial sequels to Zombie itself (all of which will be explored in future episodes of the show). But in 1988, Fulci returned to direct the follow-up to his cult classic with the in-name only sequel Zombie 3. However Fulci left the production halfway filmming, so the remainder of the film was re-worked/re-shot by legendary schlock directors Bruno Mattai (Hell Of The Living Dead) and Claudio Fragasso (Troll 2). The end result being an absolute insane experience from start to finish.

Joining Bede to discuss this crazy Frankenstein creation of a sequel is returning guest Trevor Snyder (co-host of the podcast ⁠⁠Failure To Franchise)⁠⁠ and first-time guest Paul Syvret⁠. Before he expores more of the zombie film movement that was linked to both Dawn Of The Dead (1978) and Lucio Fulci's unofficial sequel to it Zombie (1979) after they were released, your host Bede heads back into the world of NOTLD comics by checking out two related one-shot graphic novels that were co-written by the original film's co-creator John A. Russo: the 2008 comic Night Of The Living Annual and the Night Of The Living Dead: New York comic from 2009.

Hey, everyone! Welcome to episode 33 of Bede Vs. The Living Dead. The podcast where your host Bede Jermyn explores the remakes, re-edits, reimaginings, homages, unofficial follow-ups and more to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead across all media.

While Night Of The Living Dead (1968) may have been the film that kick started the modern zombie film as we know it, it's no question that its sequel Dawn Of The Dead (1978) popularise the sub-genre even more so. Especially when Romero's friend Dario Argento re-edited and re-titled the film into Zombi for the European market. After the success of this version in Italy, an un-official sequel was greenlit in the country since Italy's copyright law allows any film to be marketed as a sequel to another film. For this episode, Bede takes a look at the end-result with the 1979 cult horror classic Zombie (a.k.a. Zombi 2 and Zombie Flesh Eaters), which was directed by the legendary "Godfather of Gore" Lucio Fulci (The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead).

When it comes to many horror franchises out there, it's pretty safe to say without a single shred of doubt that Friday The 13th has more fan films than any other that are there. In fact there's more out there than the actual official entries in the series. Given how beloved F13 is, it's hard not to understand why. For this episode of the show, your hosts Bede & Steve finally dive into the F13 fan film side of the franchise by looking at two films that are actually a duology: the 2019 film Friday The 13th: Vengeance and its 2022 sequel Friday The 13th: Vengeance 2 - Bloodlines, which stars Part 6 Jason actor C.J. Hey, everyone! Welcome to a special bonus episode of Bede Vs. The Living Dead. The podcast where your host Bede Jermyn explores the remakes, re-edits, reimaginings, homages, unofficial follow-ups and more to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead across all media.

On the most recent bonus episode of the podcast, Bede covered the cult classic Troma distributed 1989 horror comedy Redneck Zombies with my special guest for that one Derek Smith. Since he had a great time discussing that film for the show, Bede wanted to do a fun follow-up to it. So, with the help of previous guest on the show, Bede was given a opportunity to sit down and chat to a few people who were involved with the film. For special bonus interview episode of the podcast, Bede talked to Redneck Zombies' co-writer/director Pericles Lewnes & co-writer Ed Bishop and author Kristopher Rufty, who is co-writing the upcoming novelization of the film with Bishop. Bede and his guests dive into every aspect of both the film and novelization in this episode, so if you're a fan of Redneck Zombies, you don't want to miss this one. Enjoy!
