At a young age Jen was told over and over again that she would amount to nothing. Told she would end up just like her verbally abusive mother and alcoholic father, unworthy of amounting to more. This lit a fire in Jen and her hardships became one of her greatest gifts on this road called success. She set out to prove them wrong.
Jen used her struggles to fuel wild success:
All this success left Jen stressed and realizing she was always chasing these goals to prove to others… it was at this point she learned that her true success would be proving things to herself…doing things for herself. This shifted her passion and purpose. She now had to say “no” to clients at times and say “yes” to other faucets of life she wanted to be successful at. From family to dance class… it took learning how to set boundaries and gain clarity. Which is why Jen is so passionate today about empowering mortgage loan originators to achieve professional and personal breakthroughs so that they stop the daily chaos and take back control of their life.

Welcome to another episode of Behind the Breakthrough. Todays guest is with the President of Whiteboard CRM Kevin Ducey.
Kevin grew up being the skinny tall kid in high school where we then enrolled in the army learning about discipline, lessons that would follow him for the remainder or his life.
Since leaving the army he worked in the staffing industry and then joined the Whiteboard team. He was completely new to the mortgage and technology space. Which resulted in imposter’s syndrome, and weight gain. Soon he found himself over 300lbs and cycling through weight loss and weight gain cycles, low energy and unhappy.
He realized what was happening is something we all do, he was letting that little judgmental voice become his large voice. You know the…
- “I don’t deserve this position, people in the office know more than me”
- “I’m stressed so I deserve another few drinks”
- “I’ve been working hard, it’s ok if I miss this workout”
- “I can’t go to that fitness class, because I’m not fit and people will judge me”
We have over 5,000 thoughts a day, some negative, some positive.. but you get to choose the thoughts you give power and energy to.
As Kevin mentions, a little bit of imposture syndrome is healthy. It keeps our ego in check and leaves us striving to do more, be more, and learn more. The second you feel that small voice gaining traction dive into your cookie jar. Look at past wins, moments you inspired or lead others and remember that you can’t get to where you want to be over night. It’s small wins that add up to large dreams, that is how we breakthrough.

At the age of 25 Geoff packed up his car and drove from Maine to San Diego to work with Tony Robbins. He knew no one in San Diego but wanted to immerse himself in the self-development realm. Working with Tony he learned how to do sales, speak from a place of purpose and take risks on following one’s dreams with no safety net to catch him. After traveling to a new city every two months he grew tired of life on the road hosting events for many mortgage firms he took a job originating loans. It was at this point he began to feel a little out of character. He left all his self development training behind and started to follow what others in the space were doing where he quickly realized he didn’t enjoy many of the ways loan orginators at the time were trying to build new business and referral partnerships. When he took a step back he realized he couldn’t follow what other were doing but instead needed to step back into his own voice and passions. This is when he started hosting events for realtors and teaching others how to market themselves and their business. By stepping back into his own power he was able to be breakthrough to a new level of success and serve from a place of passion and purpose.
The biggest take about from this video is that in order to survive this digital shift in the mortgage and real estate realm, we need to show up from a place of passion and purpose. Join us as we breakthrough how to do just that.

This weeks guest is Dale Vermillion. He has 36 years experience in the mortgage space and has spent the last 25 years being a leading trainer, speaker, and consultant.
When Dale was 14 years old he watched his brother take his last breath in a scuba diving accident. This left his parents heartbroken and Dale always trying to make them proud. Little did he know at the time at this painful story was going to become one of his greatest gifts. Not only did this event force him to grow up fast, but it lead to him always being hungry to achieve great things.
He went on to lead several mortgage company teams increasing their revenue by exponential levels. Where he learned the hard way, that when a company isn’t yours, you don’t always get the payoff you deserve. He left the corporate world and during that break he got a speaking gig. Stepping off stage he was approached by a handful of CEO’s about consulting work. This is where his company was born, Mortgage Champions.
Throughout the years he discovered his passion shifted from making money, to helping others breakthrough their barriers to reach new levels of success. He learned that giving back is his why and started a philanthropy group Mortgage Professionals Providing Hope.
My biggest take away from this episode is that the moments that cause us the most pain often lead to our greatest gifts and that we must find our why and serve from that place. It is our passions that get us through the hard times and if you want to achieve great things you have to have faith and be willing to risk it all. Join me as we breakthrough.

David Lykken is a 43 yr industry veteran who owned and operated three mortgage banking companies, software company, and several consulting companies. His passion has always been helping others and companies to overcome challenges.
Speaking of challenges, he grew up with dyslexia. He didn't get diagnosed until college years and grew up with the story...
"What is wrong with me"
"I'm not as smart as all of them"
"I could never do that"
When he was able to re-frame his story from a disorder to a gift he was able to breakthrough to new levels of success he never dreamed of. This is where his passion of helping coach companies and C-Level executives was born. He now shares his gifts and story with all of us.
My biggest take away from this episode is that all of us have self chosen pain. We can't let this pain become our prison. We must become aware of it, find the source, step into it and re-frame it from pain to a gift. For if we don't, we stay locked in our own self created prison.
David Lykken is host of Lykken on Lending podcast, also an Industry Syndicate podcast network member.

From a young age Eric had curiosity. He used this gift through life to help bring him success. He never stopped asking why, how and what now. This lead him to a passion of learning, systems, technology and providing value.
He saw that there is power in using our database and technology when it comes to reaching a new level of success... Join us this week as Megan interviews the EVP of Gold Star Mortgage Eric Mitchell.
Are you just reacting every day? Or do you have a system to help you attack the plan?
This weeks podcast is on the technical side of executing our database to work smarter instead of harder. For if we master this, Eric believes all these Fintech companies like Rocket Mortgage and Quicken won't be able to beat us.

We shouldn't worry too much about what we can't control, because there's plenty that we can control that should be getting our energy and attention. Those of us who can instead focus on what we can control can continue attaining higher and higher levels of success.
When we are preoccupied with stuff we can't control, we're spending precious time and energy that could have been spent on what we CAN control.
This week, Megan Anderson talks to Shane Kidwell, one of the Founders of Next Level Loan Officers and Area/Regional Manager at dwell Mortgage in Everett, Washington to hear his story of overcoming struggle to reach his current level of success.
