Everyone knows a Soul Blind cover art at this point. It has a unique blend of colors and leaves the background story open to the viewer's imagination. Cen is a huge fan of art and has worked on the first few EPs, but when the band had the opportunity to collaborate with Frank Maddocks (Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory) it was a true full circle moment. That wasn't the only big name that stepped in to help create this record. Will Yip was a crucial piece of the puzzle for the production side of the album. Cen had nothing but high praise for Yip, saying that he brought original ideas to the table that easily makes it clear why he's so highly recommended. The debut album "Feel It All Around" has the makings to be an album of the year for countless publications. Cen and the band is going all out with this band. Soul Blind is falling into the recent surge from hardcore. Cen says that bands like Turnstile are bringing in all walks of life, and although they are two totally different bands, it has opened the door for other groups like Soul Blind. Regardless of popularity, Soul Blind is staying true to themselves. Hardcore is in and Soul Blind are here to say - this record is the exclamation point on the building blocks that were in place over the years for this group from Hudson Valley.

We have Chance and Elle from Kerosense Heights for episode No. 137. I remember my first interaction with Kerosense Heights - it was an Instagram message with a SoundCloud link that had 2 or 3 of their earliest songs. The band has been on a fast track towards emo revival since then. They have hints of Midwest emo with the twinkly guitar riffs and screeching vocals, but they also branch out to their punk routes and are not afraid to experiment when it comes to creating a new jam. Kerosene Heights acts like a band that has been together for 10 years. Part of the reason for that is due to the fact that they have already been included on some cool bills (The Fest in particular) and have countless demos for their growing audience. But, they also have the energy that long-term bands seem to lose over the years. Chance has hit social media hard, making connections with other bands and simply getting the band's name out. They may be new in band years, but early implications say that this band will be a steady act in the emo scene for years to come.

Zach Blair of Rise Against joined us for this one. We went over so much during this interview! Blair is someone who is always focusing on music in some capacity. Whether it's his podcast, seeing his brother Doni's band (Toadies) on the road, or playing in his band - he's always moving. His podcast, Anti-Hereos, started this year. In some ways, his father served as a hidden inspiration for his current podcast. His father's all night request hour was his own corner of the show biz. Now, Zach is behind the mic for his podcast. Zach wanted to be involved in music from day one. He knew from the start that he was going to play music or die trying. It would one day become his main source of income.
We discussed the music scene with a full conversation about the evolution of punk and how touring has changed from the days when he had to use payphones and road maps to get around. Additionally, we reviewed the term "sellout," and discussed Dan Ozzi's hit book since Rise Against had a chapter in it. Last year Blair had a full circle moment when Rise Against went on tour with the Descendents. To this day they are one of his favorite bands and a big influence for his first band, Hagfish. His journey in music has been filled with countless connections. One that eventually led to meeting the members of Rise Against, clicking with them, and joining the band.A candid conversation with Carl Shane of Kal Marks, who are wrapping up an extensive tour in support of their new record, My Name is Hell (Exploding in Sound Records). We go into the bands new lineup, staying busy during the shutdown (including a conversation about Great Scott closing), how cool it is to simply just play guitar, and the overall mindset of a creative with many years of DIY music experience. Check out the band below!
