Nearly four years passed between the release of Pool Kids' first album and their most recent self-titled—but four years without an album doesn't mean four years of inactivity. While "Safe Sex" stands on its own as a DIY release, the difference in processes between their two full-lengths is impressive. With a new goal to write with a wider range of listeners in mind, Christine challenged herself to create a more comprehensive final product. And with help—and at times, tough love—from her bandmates, even the casual listener will agree: Pool Kids has delivered. Now, they're heading out on tour as they continue to exceed expectations, so catch them while you can and experience Pool Kids at their best yet.

After 10 years of waiting, the return of Algernon is official and we had the pleasure of chatting with Peter Helmis for one of their first public interviews back! A few months ago Twitter had a top 10 most inspirational emo bands list making its rounds through the music community. Algernon Cadwallader was popping up on most of the lists on people's timelines. Little did people know that the band was planning a reunion tour. It was the surprise of the year, something that no one expected. The band didn't want to just do a one-off show either, they wanted to make it big with a tour that has multiple Philly dates and a stop at The Fest. I really enjoyed this conversation. Listen to us talk about the making of the comeback, their excellent discography, and so much more!

Each time Tijuana Panthers release a new record, they often hear that same familiar statement: "this is your best record yet." Many bands might hear this and feel as though they have arrived, while others use it as motivation to continue to outperform themselves. But Chad, Phil, and Dan seem unbothered by the phrase, perhaps from hearing it directed toward nearly every release. Now in their forties, the band members have day jobs, families, and/or additional musical projects—all factors that might inhibit growth for some, but that have allowed this band to live on in its purest form, and presumably for many years to come. Aptly named, their latest release, Halfway to Eighty, takes on challenging themes of time and reflection, and although the album's core found its way to the surface inadvertently, such is the nature of Tijuana Panthers: a band that is so established, its creative fire is best sparked without intention.
