Sermon Text: John 8:48-59

Context: In response to Jesus' teachings over the last several weeks, the Jews continue to dishonor and blaspheme Christ by accusing Him of being a Samaritan or a demon.

~Distorting that which is Good as Evil.

~Denying Christ's Word

~Disobedience and Lying

~Denying Christ's Deity

The result of their dishonor is that Christ departed from them. If we dishonor Christ, we are not in a saving relationship with Him, and He will tell us to depart, for He never knew us.

Instead, we are to Honor Christ by Keeping His Word. We keep His Word by believing that He is I AM and placing our faith in Him as Lord. If we do this, we will never see or taste death.

Main Idea: Jesus taught that who our Spiritual Father is, makes all the difference. We will follow our father.

Our Spiritual Father determines:

1. Our Doctrine

2. Our Doings

3. Our Devotion

4. Our Destination

Conclusion: We must be adopted into the family of God by His Grace and live as God's children, representing Him and His grace and holiness well.

Sermon Text: John 8:31-36

Main Idea: In this text, Jesus explains what true believers look like.

True believers:

1. Abide in His Word- True Believers do not simply read or assent to His Word, they abide in it.

2. Spiritually Minded- True Believers are not blind to the spiritual realities of their condition and the conditions of those around them.

3. Free from Slavery to Sin- True Believers live in the freedom they have in Christ from sin by living as free from sin and as slaves to Christ.

Text: John 8:21-30

Sermon Text: John 8:13-20

Main Idea: We can trust and be sure that Jesus is the Messiah and we must follow Him as such.

1. The Accusation: The Pharisees tried to twist the law to deny Jesus' claims. They misuse the law.

2. The Witness: Though there are many witnesses who testified to who Jesus is, Jesus says that even if He testifies of Himself, His testimony is true.

3. The Judgement: Jesus condemns the judgment of the Pharisees and details the true judgment of the Father.

4. The Verdict: Jesus says that they know neither Him nor the Father.

Main Text: John 8:12

1. Who He is: The Light of the World. Jesus is the Light who has come into the darkness of this world.

2. What we are called to do: Follow the Light. Just as Israel followed the pillar of fire in the wilderness, we are to follow the Light of the World.

3. What that means moving forward: The Light of Life. We are to shine as lights to those around us.

Sermon Text: John 7:40-52

Main Idea: The people were divided over what should have been obvious (That Jesus is the Messiah). It is not enough to be united, but we must be united in God's truth.

Contributing Factors to Division include:

1. Puny Spiritual Understanding.

2. Poor Standards of Truth.

3. Prejudice.

Conclusion: A deep and robust belief in the Gospel of Christ unites us in His love and truth.

Sermon text: John 7:37-39

Main Idea: We are to come to Christ and drink of His Grace, so that the Holy Spirit may bear fruit in our lives.

1. Flowing In: The Grace of Christ flows into our life. Like water, we must look outside ourselves to find what we need. In this case, we are to find our salvation in Christ.

2. Flowing Out: When we believe in Christ, the Spirit indwells us, and fruit will flow from our hearts.

3. Flowing from the Source: The only reason we can be indwelt by the Spirit is that Jesus has justified us.

Sermon Text: John 7:25-36

Main idea: The Jews asked if Jesus was really the Messiah. This is the most important question for every person to answer. How we answer that question will determine everything.

1. Divine Plan: There is a divine plan. God planned to send Jesus to save us. His plan will never fail.

2. Division: Naturally, there is division because some people believe in Jesus and others do not.

3. Destination: Based on our answer to the question, we are either bound for glory with Christ or eternal punishment.

Sermon Notes: Main Idea: We are specifically called to Glorify God. 

In John 7:1-24 we see:

1. Unbelievers seek their own glory.

2. Those who do the will of God seek His glory.

3. To glorify God, we need to use right judgment.
