Harriett Allcroft is an effervescent performer, who ensures that her performances are bright and cheery, and full of fun.

When Harriet joined David Moyle on Bent Notes she chatted about the past two years, teaching in isolation, and spending time composing new songs reflecting her experiences as she writes from the heart.

After two years of on-again, off-again, on-again gigs, Harriet is debuting these new works in a concert in the beautiful Primrose Potter Salon at the Melbourne Recital Centre on February 25, 2022.

Julien Wilson visited the Bent Notes studio to chat with David Moyle about the new album from the 4-piece ensemble THIS WORLD called ‘Another Dance‘.

Due for release on February 4, 2022, the album is a beautiful testimony to the bond the musicians share – Mike Nock (Piano), Hamish Stuart (Drums), Julien Wilson (Tenor Sax/Effects) and Jonathan Zwartz (Double Bass).  The 8 pieces offer beauty and enjoyment over the entire album.

Adelaide based Drummer and Composer Alexander Flood chatted with David Moyle upon the release of the 2nd single, Pathways, from his soon to be released album, The Space Between.

Anton Delecca spoke with David Moyle on Bent Notes about launching his 5th album – The Offering – an album dedicated to the memory of his parents.

Anton grew up in an environment where he was exposed to a range of music including Ravi Shankar, Louis Armstrong and Led Zeppelin.

Music has been an essential part of Anton’s life, leading to a two year stint in  New York where this album was recorded with an amazing line-up of musicians.

Reuben Lewis, Leader of I Hold The Lion’s Paw, chatted with David Moyle about the launch of their brand new album – LOST IN PLACE, taking place as part of the rescheduled Melbourne International Jazz Festival across the first weekend in December.

Reuben spoke about the influences on this album, including Sun Ra and the 1960’s television Sci-Fi series LOST IN SPACE.

Adrian Jackson was artistic director of the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues for its first 27 years.  He has now put pen to paper to produce the definitive book about the festival’s first 30 years.

Written  in conjunction with his sister, journalist Andra Jackson, the book contains memories of so many amazing artists who have performed over the years, history about getting the festival off the ground, and many pictures and anecdotes – as well as the complete list of artists for each year.

Adrian chatted with David Moyle about some of his festival memories, and the work involved in producing the book – as well as the crowdfunding needed to get the book to the printers.

Tamara Murphy, Melbourne based educator and player of the Double Bass, chatted with David Moyle about her own ‘Flipped Interviews‘ with male musicians that she works with, using variations of inappropriate questions that have been posed to Tamara over the years – questions that were not related to the interview topic.  (was it really relevant to ask about how to be a musician and a mother?)  A project that has kept Tamara amused during lockdown in Melbourne.

More importantly Tamara and her Spirograph Studies ensemble have released the first single off their upcoming album LOWLIGHTS, due for release in October.   This is their second album of pieces composed by Tamara.

Monique diMattina spoke with David Moyle on Bent Notes about her latest album of solo piano works called TIDES.  An album of 10 beautiful meditative pieces that grew out of the months of lockdown in Melbourne.

Creating the pieces took place each evening between 9 and 10pm – Moniques’ personal time after the children went to bed.  Recording took place on a Yamaha C7X grand piano.

In addition to the audio recording Monique has made printed sheet music available for some of the pieces.

Guitarist James Sherlock and Double Bass player Ben Hanlon have released their 2nd Duo album – STRAVINKSY – a collection of pieces inspired by the Petrushka and Rite Of Spring works composed by Igor Stravinsky. (with a little Debussy and Gershwin thrown in for good measure!)

James and Ben chat with David Moyle about taking small sections of such inspirational orchestral works, and workshopping their individual musical thoughts to come up with their final creation for improvisation.

Ben also recalls featuring with The Wiggles when they met instruments of the Orchestra back in 2015, and how he became a video star onboard a plane when the orchestra were travelling.
