Best Supporting Podcast

Broad City is a dream come true when it comes to guest stars in supporting roles, but this week we're celebrating our favorite BSA category, the Moms! In particular Susie Essman and Peri Gilpin as Ilana and Abbi's moms. Bobbi Wexler comes to town for her mother's shiva and a trip below Canal Street in Season 2's "Knockoffs," which also features Abbi diving down a manhole of a different sort, best supporting Bob Balaban, and a popcorn trio bucket that we spend far too much time on. Abbi's mom appears in Season 4's appropriately titled "Abbi's Mom," looking for a fun girls night out at Sushi Mambeaux while Ilana struggles for serotonin and RuPaul occasionally delivers an amazing performance as her manager. We have a lot to say about cough syrup bottles, getting yelled at by Zabar's, a little feng shui at home and the mid-90's luxury afforded to you by The Card. (https://youtu.be/r7uhMp1J25w)

How ‘bout a little mambo? Its the first day of rehearsal and things are NOT going well for Karen as Ivy pulls a “half diva” on her the entire rehearsal. Eileen is in a financial pickle in funding the workshop, Karen finds outs out that Ivy is sleeping with the Dark Lord, and Tom’s blind date is a total package, (even though he could not care LESS). Nick Jonas plays a questionable 12 year old millionaire who is celebrating a birthday at Derek’s flat where Julia recruits Michael Swift, Dennis, and ELLIS for an impromptu performance. This episode has got us howling! Join us for SEASON 1 of "SMASH" and get early access to main episodes on Patreon : www.patreon.com/bsapod

We are wrapping up our month of Grey's BSA's with the dramatic conclusion to the Season 6 finale! We pick up with Derek on the catwalk (or should we just call it a bridge?), April getting an Oprah-inspired Shondalogue, Christina Yang doing surgery at gunpoint, Miranda going to a 27 and back again in the elevator bay, a familiar Meredith nuance, and some love for James Pickering Jr as the not retired or widowed Richard. Plus: a few more rounds of J.A.G. or No J.A.G. (with bonus ER), a glimpse ahead at the Season 7 aftermath, a celebration of Chandra Wilson's success outside of the Emmy's, some high takes on Lord of the Rings and a preliminary review of a certain infamous musical episode....

This week we are all Redneck Women as we follow Karen on a Karaoke/Baby Shower trip to Iowa and Ivy's choice to save a horse and ride Derek. Eileen purchases some new jewelry, Ellis reaches peak O'Brien realness, and an old flame is rekindled via the casting of Michael Swift. Colin and Nick wrap up the episode with a quick round of "Bop or Flop" in response to Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio's new duet and ponder whats in store for Julia and Michael Swift!

Things get really dark at Seattle Grace this week as we dive into Part 1 of the Season 6 finale, “Sanctuary,” the infamously grim active shooter episode. While plenty of tragedy and trauma ensues, we’re continually wowed by Chandra Wilson and sing the praises of Jessica Capshaw, Sarah Drew and Michael O’Neill as Mr. Clark. We also can’t be sure of how to pronounce “Chyler Leigh.” Plus: guest star Mandy Moore, J.A.G. cameos, lunch with John Goodman and a best supporting anniversary.

This week on Smash Karen and Ivy are put through multiple rounds of callbacks, Leo has a back porch meltdown, and Dev flies off the handle after being stood up in a restaurant. As Julia's scarf count continues to climb we explore Frank second guessing the adoption, Ivy as the insufferable teacher's pet, and Ellis continuing to have his ear glued to the door. Colin steals the show as he debuts a performance of Leo in a pivotal scene(and a surprise Bobcat Goldthwait impression!)

We're back in Seattle Grace this week to discuss the first episode of Season 3, complete with Izzie in a prom dress on the bathroom floor, dark and twisty Meredith, Adele in a yellow raincoat, Bailey's hospital room door moments with the guy from "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," the subtle rage of Addison and Yang's 11th hour declaration of love. Plus: Callie gets a spot-on monologue in the kitchen, Derek and George have zero chemistry in a locker room and we have much to say about grief food, red flags, and the aforementioned "Diary of a Mad Black Woman."

Put on your scarves and get that mac and cheese out of the oven because it's time for SMASH! NBC's short lived Musical Theatre "Disasterpiece" is full of twists, turns, and martinis being thrown in unsuspecting faces. We break down audition etiquette, the legendary antagonist that is ELLIS, and Leo's obsession with bananas. We talk #TeamKaren vs #TeamIvy and wrap it up with the arguably one of the best (and gayest) musical theater duets of all time.

Pick us, choose us, love us! All this month we are diving into some of the most actressy episodes of the early days of "Grey's Anatomy"! We are kicking things off with this Season 2 classic, which you may know as the train accident episode with the two people impaled on a pole. But there's also drunk Meredith with her banana bag, Christina Yang at her wackiest, Best Supporting Izzie Stephens, Derek crying in an elevator, the iconic Bonnie, and Addison in her wicked witch phase. We have a lot to say about the genre of medical dramas, how familiar guest star Kym Whitley feels, pregnant women making a run for it in hospitals, the final shot, and the MUSIC. This episode is an express train to crying your eyes out and we need 200 CC's of it, stat!

We're headed to the Plains this week to discuss the 2013 movie adaptation of Tracy Letts' nuclear family meltdown "August: Osage County." It's the definition of a stacked cast, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Margo Martindale, Julianne Nicholson, Juliette Lewis, Chris Cooper and Ewan McGregor. We get into the differences between the play and the movie, some of the casting choices, and if this could have been Meryl's third Oscar. We also have A LOT to say about the CBS sitcom "The Millers" and Amy Morton, Amy Morton, Amy Morton. Inevitably we wrap things up with some Real Housewives recasting of the Weston family.
