Job 38 – 42

1. God uses suffering to redirect us.
“Sometimes painful experiences make us change our ways.” Proverbs 20:30
“You asked, ‘Who is this that questions My wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I - and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.” Job 42:3
2. God uses suffering to realign us.
“My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to Your statutes.” Psalm 119:71
“the testing of your faith produces endurance, so let endurance do its work so you become mature and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:3 & 4
“I have made them for My glory.” Isaiah 43:7
“God saved them for the sake of His name” Psalm 106:8
3. God uses suffering to reposition us
“you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good. He repositioned me so I could save the lives of many people.” Gen. 50:20
“give me this mountain that the Lord promised me” Joshua 14:12
“I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will continue His work until the day of Christ Jesus.” Phil. 1:6
“satan has desired to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. When you have come through the time of testing, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31 & 32
4. God uses suffering to refine us.
“I have refined you, but not as silver is refined. Rather, I have refined you in the furnace of suffering.” Isaiah 48:10
“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; but now my eye sees You; therefore I despise myself and I repent” Job 42:6
“no purpose of God’s can be stopped.” Job 42:2
“God knows the way I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as pure gold.” Job 23:10
“None of the rulers of this age recognized and understood God’s wisdom; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” 1 Corinthians 2:8
