Have you ever heard of Abebe Bikila? If you’re just a casual runner or fan of running, then probably not. However, Bikila changed running forever by demolishing his opponents, setting new world records, and opening the door for many other Africans to compete in distance running. There are many things from his story that we should learn, but before we do so, we must ask ourselves: do our running shoes actually help us run?

In Episode 21, Mason and Scott detailed what your ideal running form should look like. However, it can be challenging to change the way you run, especially since you have to pay attention to many parts of your body at once. In this episode, we explain ways to apply your running form to your training to make this transition more bite-sized. Specific opportunities such as running hills, doing interval workouts, or even in races give you an opportunity to focus on different parts of your form. Don’t worry--over time, running with your ideal form will become natural!

In this episode, Mason and Scott take a bite out of the flavorful workout sandwich. The workout sandwich consists of a warm-up as one of the pieces of “bread” around a workout, the workout as the “meat” in the middle, and the cool-down as the bottom slice of “bread.” While often overlooked, warm-ups are essential for preparing your body to run a difficult workout or a race, and cool-downs are very important for preventing injury. Finally, as Mason and Scott explain, these elements of the workout can help provide the most joy to your running experience.
