  • Ep 16: Stretching and the Controversy You Never Knew Existed

Once you’ve designed your training log correctly, it’s time to get out there and start executing your plan. But wait--there’s something you should do before you hit the pavement. That something, of course, is stretching. Stretching is a staple of long-distance runners and is hugely important to do, although many people know very little about how to actually do it. In this episode, Mason and Scott list out some helpful stretches, identify which types of stretches should be done in which scenarios, and outline some of the many benefits of stretching. (WARNING: The benefits aren’t what you think they are!)

  • Ep 13: Why Running is More Important Now Than Ever

In the beginning of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic vastly changed the way we have all conducted our personal, professional, and social lives. Changes to our daily routine included more time spent inside the house, less travel, fewer in-person interactions, and more unstructured time. While many of the disruptions this pandemic brought were unwelcome, perhaps the most important are the potential implications to our physical and mental well-being. Luckily, there is a great solution to these issues–you guessed it, running! In this episode, Mason and Scott discuss why it’s more important to begin or continue running now more than ever, and offer recommendations on safe running practices.

  • Ep 8: Occupying Your Mind

A runner’s greatest secret weapon is his or her mind. A mind that is too distracted can cause you to lose focus on your pace, while a mind that is too focused on the run can lead to stress, awareness of the pain, and a desire to slow down. Most of the time, your mind should be occupied by thoughts that take your mind off of the difficulty while not causing you to lose focus of your run. In this episode, Mason and Scott detail some of the ways you can occupy your own mind while running, including listening to music or podcasts, repeating a mantra, or having a conversation during easier runs.
