Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we continue with our Advent 2020 prayers. Today we are reading out of John 6:35 which says "Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."

"This verse immediately got me thinking about all the bread I love. If you didn’t know, I love to bake and baking bread has quickly grown to be one of my favorite things to make. It’s always been my  favorite thing to eat. I mean who doesn’t love the rolls from red lobster? Or the ones from Texas Road House? I am cuban, so a Cuban Tostada on the weekend is heaven sent.

 

Beyond that, bread and water is what sustain us as humans. We physically need to eat and drink in order for us to live. When Jesus makes this declaration he is saying, you cannot live without me. Whoever comes to him will never go hungry, and whoever believes in him will never go thirsty. He is saying that he will fill every need.

 

When we eat bread and drink water, our body uses the substance and turns it into energy. It then discards it, and it’s time to eat again. Similar to that process, I think it’s vital we remind ourselves everyday that we have Jesus on our side. When we do that, we remind our souls and our spirits that we are not lacking anything. We aren’t hungry nor are we thirsty because he fills our every need.

 

My prayer for us today is that we realize how extremely blessed we are to do life with a man who fills our every need. We can talk with him freely. We can go to him when we need strength, when we need shelter, and when we just want to celebrate."
