The Winnipeg Jets open play on Friday with a visit to the Dallas Stars. Thirty-minutes later, the New York Islanders will look to continue their better play as they visit the Edmonton Oilers.

Could the Tampa Bay Lightning be in for a letdown on Friday? They played the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday and have a quick turnaround against the languishing Arizona Coyotes.

The final game on the schedule is a Western Conference duel with the Seattle Kraken taken a trip to face the Anaheim Ducks.

It is All-Star Weekend in the NHL. The game will take place in Las Vegas and the one thing people can be sure of is there will be lots of fun, offense and spectacular goaltending. The league also has its skills competitions and the fans love watching those.

During the second intermission, recording artist Machine Gun Kelly will perform so those in attendance and watching on television won’t want to stray far from their seats or couches.The tournament will feature three games played in the three-on-three format. Each of the four teams will include six forwards, three defensemen and two goaltenders.

The NHL is heading to its All-Star break but not before the games are played on Wednesday. Many teams are already off as there are only five games on the schedule.

The Seattle Kraken will be a long way from home as they play at the New York Islanders. The same can be said for the Edmonton Oilers, who hit Washington with newly signed Evander Kane, and the Los Angeles Kings, who meet the Detroit Red Wings.

The other contests bring together Minnesota at Chicago and the Calgary Flames hope to sail into the break with two more points against the Arizona Coyotes.

After that, it’s a long weekend for most of the NHL players, except for those who have earned All-Star honors.

The calendar has turned the page to February after blasting through January. The NHL heads into the second month of the year with a huge slate of 12 games.

The Seattle Kraken meet the Boston Bruins in one of five games slated for 7 p.m. ET puck drop. Playing the Bruins on the road should be a challenge for the expansion team.

Speaking of challenges, the San Jose Sharks definitely have a test on their hands as they meet the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The other team from the Sunshine State will be in the Big Apple to meet the New York Rangers. Another game in the Metropolitan Area sees the Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Prudential Center to face the New Jersey Devils.

Also at home in the Northeast are the Flyers, Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pens play the Washington Capitals, which means Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin will have at it, once again.

In the 8 p.m. Eastern hour, the Nashville Predators welcome the Vancouver Canucks at the top of the hour and at the bottom of it Calgary is at Dallas.

The schedule wraps up with the lowly Arizona Coyotes facing the sizzling Colorado Avalanche and the Buffalo Sabres in Sin City to take on the Vegas Golden Knights.

This game deserves a big circle around it because it is the night the Blueshirts retire the jersey of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Should be quite the emotional ceremony.

Another New York  team should have it easier as the Arizona Coyotes visit the New York Islanders. That said, Arizona has won two in a row and is 5-3-2 in its last 10 after a terrible start. The Islanders come in last in the Metropolitan Division and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 and on a two-game winning streak.

In other action, the Pittsburgh Penguins visit Columbus, Tampa Bay is at Anaheim and Florida is at Vancouver as the NHL has a fairly busy Friday slate.
