Two of the games take place in the Keystone State as the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. In Western Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins scrap with the Ottawa Senators.

Out West, the expansion-team Seattle Kraken will face off against the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks’ Timo Meier had a huge game earlier this week, scoring five goals against the Los Angeles Kings.

Pittsburgh and Columbus are in fourth- and fifth place, respectively, in the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins are way out of reach of the Blue Jackets, 16 points ahead, and contesting for first place rather than fighting for fourth.

The Flyers are behind Columbus in sixth place. Ottawa meanwhile sits in seventh place, more than 20 points behind the teams vying for playoff position in the Atlantic.

The Sharks got the huge game from Meier against the Kings and are battling for playoff position in the tight Pacific. The Kraken are way back, having disappointed in their first season.

The NHL offers a light fare on Friday as three games will be played. One, Vegas at Edmonton has already been postponed. The Dallas Stars visit the Florida Panthers. Dallas sits in fifth place overall but has had its schedule impacted by COVID-19 postponements. The Panthers are one of the league’s top teams and are in a battle for the Atlantic Division lead.

The Ducks leave Southern California for the chilly ways of Minnesota as they face the Wild. Both teams are playing average hockey as they have tread frozen water in their last 10 games. Minnesota has played 33 games so look for the Wild’s schedule to be packed in future weeks.

And in the other game, the strong Colorado Avalanche pay a visit to the week Arizona Coyotes. Colorado is in second place in the Central but has numerous games in hand on both Dallas and St. Louis. Arizona has eight wins in 34 games. Ouch.

The Vancouver Canucks continue their tour of the Sunshine State as they meet the Florida Panthers, coming off a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Still, the Canucks are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games so expect a close contest.

There is a scrap between Metropolitan Area teams when the New York Islanders play host to the New Jersey Devils. The other team from the Big Apple, the New York Rangers, will be across the country as they continue a run through the Golden State against the San Jose Sharks.

Another team from the East, the Pittsburgh Penguins, will be in California to face the Los Angeles Kings.

Original Six teams meet as the Montreal Canadiens duel the Chicago Blackhawks as one of the other games on the packed schedule..

Columbus at Chicago has been postponed but Montreal-Tampa Bay, Vegas-Los Angeles and Arizona-San Jose remain a go.

The Montreal-Tampa Bay game is a rematch of the teams that vied for the Stanley Cup at the end of last season. The Lightning are atop the Atlantic Division with 44 points. The Canadiens, however, have fallen on hard times with only seven wins and that puts them in the bottom of the Atlantic.

Out West, Vegas leads the Pacific with 40 points. The Kings have been a pleasant surprise thus far in 2021-2022 with 33 points. The Arizona Coyotes, meanwhile, have 14 points, the least of any team in the league. San Jose has 31 points, good for sixth in the Pacific

Philadelphia has been struggling and only has 29 points and is tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for fifth in the Metropolitan Division.
