Episode 7 features an interview with Austin, who is an alcoholic in very early recovery. In fact, he's still counting his sober time in days. How great is that?
Austin is fresh out of rehab and he has a story to tell. If you listen, you will learn. I promise.
And there will be barely legal doses of good news and gratitude, as always.
Buckle up and enjoy.

In an effort to mix things up a bit and keep y'all on your toes, Episode 6 is a bit different than the others. Don't fret, though; you will still get your weekly dose of good news and gratitude. But instead of an interview, I will be sharing a chapter of my book that happens to be full of practical and straightforward advice for anyone out there with a past, current, or future loved one who was, is, or will be an addict or alcoholic. Spoiler alert...that's just about all of us.
I don't have all of the answers, that's for sure, but I have learned more than a thing or two during my decades-long journey through drug addiction and recovery. Hopefully, sharing some of what I have learned over the years will be helpful to others who are feeling exhausted, hopeless, and defeated.
Can't hurt to hear me out, right?
Thanks for listening.

Episode 5 features an interview with Herbert, an alcoholic in recovery who I first met almost seven years ago during my stay at an inpatient treatment center for addiction and alcoholism. Herbert has a story that will fill your heart with hope. And, let me just clear this up right now, "Herbert" is not actually Al Franken. It just really sounds like it. Enjoy. Here are a few links to some things Herbert brought up in the episode...

Episode 4 features an interview with Alison, an old friend of mine who happens to be a bonafide boss of yoga, meditation, and all things wellness. She's also creative, hilarious, positive, and thoughtful. And there is much more to her story.
If you listen carefully, you'll be a better person by the end of the episode...for real.
And there will be good news and gratitude galore, as always.
Enjoy.

Episode 3 features an interview with "Henry," another person whose story I included in my book, Between the Lines: A Memoir about Addiction, Empathy, and Evolution.
Henry was a student in one of the American Literature classes I was teaching about seven years ago and I got to know him pretty well back then. Fast forward a couple of years...my teaching career was over and I was attending an intensive outpatient rehab program for drug addiction in Chicago with "Jake," who happened to be Henry's older brother. And I got to know Jake pretty well too.
Sadly, about a year later, Jake lost his battle with addiction, overdosed, and died in his childhood bedroom.
But don't worry, while we didn't sugar coat the reality of the situation, Henry and I did find a way to keep the episode upbeat and positive.
You will have a little more hope by the time you're done listening to our conversation. I promise.

Episode 2 of Between the Lines: The Podcast features an interview and discussion with "Glenn," one of the people whose story I shared in my book, Between the Lines: A Memoir about Addiction, Empathy, and Evolution. Glenn is a loyal friend and deep thinker, and he is no stranger to the devastating impact that addiction can have on the family of an addict. Glenn's story is definitely worth sharing. If you really listen, you are bound to learn something about the world. And I'm guessing you'll have a few laughs, too.
I also share some good news and gratitude with you all, as always. Can't hurt.

The very first episode of Between the Lines: The Podcast features an interview with "Daisy," one of the people whose story I included in my recently released book, Between the Lines: A Memoir about Addiction, Empathy, and Evolution. Daisy is an intelligent, funny, and resilient woman who has been battling alcoholism for years...and I think she finally has it on the ropes. All of us can learn something valuable from Daisy if we listen to what she has to say.
There are a few other segments that should bring some light into your day, as well.
Enjoy.

I'm Jay Lind, author of Between the Lines: A Memoir about Addiction, Empathy, and Evolution. And this is the trailer for Between the Lines: Recovery an idea born shortly after the release of my memoir. I hope to use this platform to share the stories of some of the unique people I have met along the way or will meet sometime in the future. Some of my guests on the podcast will be people whose stories I featured in my book, but others will be new to you and me both. It is my sincere belief that everyone has a story we should hear, and that if we take the time to ask the right questions and to listen, we can all learn from each other. The more you know about someone, the harder it is to hate them. Think about it. There is only one cure for the ignorance, fear, and hatred that seems all too common these days. And that cure is love. Between the Lines: Recovery will be packed with positivity and kindness, and If enough people listen to it, maybe we can work together to make a difference. I say it's worth a shot. Who is with me?
