  • Episode 39 – Addiction and Faith

Statistically, there is no getting around the fact that we are all coming in contact with individuals who are struggling with addiction. How do we as people of faith respond when people we love are struggling or when we are in need of help ourselves?

  • Episode 39 - Addiction and Faith
Look out podcast fans, there’s a new guest host with Beyond Sunday! Katie couldn’t be here this week but we were lucky enough to have Kat Nazaroff join our team. And even better, baby Timothy got to come too!
We’re going to tap into Kat’s expertise as an addiction recovery social worker and talk about a Christian response to living in and helping others out of addiction. Where do we draw the line between loving someone and enabling poor behavior? How can we support people who are walking this very difficult road? Where can I turn if someone I love needs help?
We will dive into these questions and more as Kat drops some word jams and brings down the studio with her wisdom and insight!
We hope you enjoy the conversation. As always, be sure to subscribe, rate, and review this episode on your favorite podcast provider!

  • Episode 38 – Are we stuck in a Rage Culture?

It seems like every day there is a new cause that we are all being told we have to choose sides on. Once we choose sides, we have to dedicate ourselves to destroying the arguments for the opposition. But is this the best way forward? Is this the most faithful way to respond to disagreement? Join the Beyond Sunday team as we run head first into our modern Rage Culture and look for a word forward.

  • Episode 38 - Are we stuck in a Rage Culture?
How often have you watched this scenario happen: Person A posts a comment on social media that is borderline inappropriate. Person B responds by publicly shaming Person A for their comment. Persons C, D, and E all rush to A’s defense while persons F, G, H jump into support B. Now the entire conversation is rooted in anger over who was right and no one is talking about the original comment.
Sound familiar? At Beyond Sunday we have been watching this take place and have started referring to this as Rage Culture. We would rather be angry with one another than try to help each other move in a more positive direction that would benefit all of us.
On this week’s episode we’re going to look this culture right in the eye and try to figure out a path forward for us as people of faith. Does our faith in Jesus call us to be angry? If it does, how should we release that anger in the world?
We hope you enjoy the conversation. As always, be sure to subscribe, rate, and review this episode on your favorite podcast provider!

One thing is sure: life is messy. Walk through the mess with us as we carry our faith out into the world on this week’s episode of Beyond Sunday.

We’ve all been given gifts and talents. One of the greatest questions we will tackle in our lives is how to best use the gifts we have been given for the benefit of others. In the world of faith we call this “stewardship.” Join the Beyond Sunday team as we tackle some of this uneven ground head on.

What would we gain by recapturing some of the themes and practices of the early Church? What do we share in common and what are we thankful is different? On this episode Katie and Pastor David are tackling these questions and challenging us all to rethink our current practices and may lift up some practices from those who had walked with Jesus and were the first to receive the Holy Spirit.
We hope you enjoy this episode!
