Why are there 2 levels of korbanot - higher sanctity (kodshei kodashim) and lesser sanctity (kodashim kalim)? Zevachim 37a-b discusses the grouping of firstborn, tithed animal and Pesach offerings regarding the rituals related to their blood. But this grouping is indicative of a larger category within korbanot, namely קדשים קלים - the lesser sanctity korbanot. What distinguishes those korbanot from high sanctity korbanot קדשי קדשים?

The mishnah on Zevachim 32a clearly permits women to perform ritual slaughter even ab initio (lechatchila). And yet, this practice is rare if not impossible to find today. What happened, and can it be reversed? In this shiur, we will examine debates about this issue.

What must the priest be thinking during the sacrifice? is the action enough, or does intention define everything?
Which carries more weight — the ritual itself, or the thought behind it?
And what happens when the intention is wrong? does the offering become invalid? And what exactly is pigul?
Rabbanit Shira Marili Mirvis and Rabbanit Hamutal Shoval explore how a single thought can change the fate of a sacred act.

What makes someone fit to perform shechita — halachic skill, or gender identity?
What matters more — mastering the laws and precision of the act,or the weight of tradition and communal acceptance?
And what’s the difference between halachic kashrut of the shchita—and the public trust in what counts as “kosher”?
Rabbanit Shira Marili Mirvis and Rabbanit Hamutal Shoval set out on a journey to ask: Who really gets to hold the knife — and is it possible that a woman can be a shochet?

Zevachim 17b-18a teaches us about the significance of the bigdei kehuna, the priest’s clothing. Performing the Temple sacrifices without wearing those clothes was forbidden, and a kohen may not wear the special clothing except on the Temple Mount (Har Habayit). On Yom Kippur, the clothing requirement is especially involved. In this shiur, we will use that clothing requirement as a lens through which to view Yom Kippur and the significance of the kohen’s clothes throughout the year. Gefet- Gemara, Perushim, and Tosafot, an in-depth Iyun gemara shiurClothing is something that we choose — but to what extent does it define who we are? How does our outward presentation reflect something deeper about our identities? The rishonim address a similar question with regard to the role of bigdei kehunah, the uniform required for performance of the rituals in the Beit Hamikdash: does the uniform turn the Kohen into a Kohen? Or does his sanctity remain even without his begadim?Gefet Ep 194Zevachim 13Gefet with Rabbanit Yael Shimoni and Shalhevet Schwartz is in collaboration with Yeshivat Drisha.
