Red Sox prospect Blaze Jordan was hit in the face by a 97 mph fastball, breaking his nose and caused swelling in his cheek earlier this season; resulting in missing time. Early talked about having no idea about pitching analytics while at the University of Virginia. The southpaw said he went out and just pitched each time he took the mound.
“Before professional baseball, I had never really been into the analytical stuff,” Early said. “I couldn’t have even told you what any of my pitch shapes were. In college, I just went out there filling up the zone and attacked hitters with what I had, not knowing if it was great or not. In professional ball, you look at the Trackman every bullpen you throw.”
He talks about utilizing TrackMan after every bullpen session, his time in Portland, and playing along with Kyle Teel and hoping to again in Boston.
