Writer and comedian Mo Gilligan swapped a life in retail for comedy in 2017 when his videos were spotted by Canadian rapper Drake who cited him on his instagram account. A quick rise to prominence within the UK comedy circuit attracted attention from TV producers who united him with the UK Grime artist for Channel Four’s The Big Narstie Show in 2018 followed by securing his own self titled Channel Four Friday night chat show earlier this year. I caught up with TV’s newest jostler to talk rap, comedy and his hopes for the future. Ladies and gentlemen Mr Mo Gilligan.

In a career spanning three decades, comedy writer and performer Julian Dutton has become a permanent fixture on both radio and television. The co-creator of Matt Lucas’s Pompidou, Julian assisted in the rediscovery of physical comedy since the popularity of Rowan Atkinson’s Mr Bean. Beyond slapstick, Julian has contributed to Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression which he saw successfully transition from Radio 4 to BBC One. Actor and comedian Michael Fenton-Stevens first came to public attention on the Spitting Image 1986 number 1 hit "The Chicken Song” before a cameo appearance in Only Fools and Horses in 1989. A string of successful cameos followed him into the nineties where he landed a role opposite the late Gary Olsen in the 1996 drama Pilgrim’s Rest. Yet possibly he’s best known for his role in the cult eighties sketch show Radio Active alongside Angus Deayton and the late Geoffrey Perkins. Writer, comedian and playwright Ben Elton burst on to the entertainment scene in the midst of the Alternative Comedy revolution of the early 1980’s co writing the cult anarchic sitcom The Young Ones alongside Rik Mayall and Lize Mayor. In 1985 Elton was put forward to update the variety format for eighties Britain when he secured a presenting role on Channel Four’s Saturday Live which made stars of Harry Enfield, Alexi Sayle and French and Saunders. With his on screen popularity growing, Ben was recruited by friend Richard Curtis to collaborate on the writing of the second series of the cult BBC2 sitcom Blackadder and remained a lead writer on the following three series. A reunion with Rowan Atkinson in the mid nineties resulted in the short-lived BBC sitcom The Thin Blue Line followed by securing his own BBC1 series alongside the legendary Ronnie Corbett. Legendary writer and comedian Tim Brooke-Taylor first came to prominence in 1964 in the cult radio comedy I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again alongside John Cleese, Bill Oddie and Graeme Garden. Just three years later Tim secured a role in David Frost’s satirical sketch comedy At Last The 1948 Show which reunited him with Cleese, Oddie and Garden for just one series before Cleese became Python bound which left the three remaining members to form The Goodies and the rest is history. Beyond sketch show Tim has been a regular panellist on the popular long running panel show I’m Sorry I haven’t a Clue. I caught up with the late comedy legend in October 2019 on set of the most southerly leg of his nationwide tour to talk funky gibbons, comedy heroes and recollections on an unparalleled career in comedy. Legendary writer and comedian Barry Cryer has been making Britain laugh for over sixty years beginning his career as a comic at the infamous Windmill Theatre before penning scripts for Danny La Rue and Ronnie Corbett at the celebrated nightclub Winston’s. Whilst here, Barry met an important figure in the development of his career:David Frost who recruited him for The Frost Report alongside Corbett and Barker. Throughout the seventies, Barry wrote for the anarchic Kenny Everett on his various series for the BBC and ITV and then in 1972 he became a regular on the radio 4 panel show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, I met up with the comedy legend to talk comedy, icons and his thoughts on an unparalleled career in entertainment. Making his comedy debut in 2012 following correcting Ross Noble for his inaccurate impression of Stephen Hawking, comedian Lee Ridley promptly purchased an iPad voice synthesiser and set about conquering the circuit. In 2014, Ridley won the BBC Radio New Comedy Awards before embarking on a new show entitled Disability for Dunces, as part of the Edinburgh Fringe. Just three years later Ridley received national acclaim when he won the 2018 series of Britain’s Got Talent winning a spot on last year’s Royal Variety Performance. I caught up with the writer and comedian on set of the most southerly leg of his new nationwide tour to talk parking spaces, reality television and his hopes for the future. Writer and comedian Arthur Smith burst on to the Alternative Comedy circuit of the 1980’s as a comedy MC. Making his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1977 Smith began a lifelong association with the festival which still survives to this day. Teaming up with comedy partner Phil Nice in 1985, Smith made a short series of parody documentaries for Channel 4 television network called Arthur and Phil Go Off. In 2000 Arthur landed his own Radio 2 series The Smith Lectures celebrating his favourite Stand Up comics before providing the voice of BBC1’s Life Of Grime in 2004.
