Dr. Alan Kurschner responded to the flawed, circular nature of pretribulationism in determining if a Scriptural passage teaches imminence.

He critiqued Wayne A. Brindle's four general criteria that have been used to establish imminence theology in pretribulation literature.

Dr. Alan Kurschner explained the problem with identifying Matthew 24:30 with the battle of Armageddon in Revelation 19. He responded to this standard pretrib interpretation and explained the most problematic point with this view, which violates the narrative logic of both the Olivet Discourse and the book of Revelation. In particular, the Noahic illustration and the trumpets and bowl judgments expose the deep flaw with this pretribulational interpretation.

Dr. Alan Kurschner points out a massive inconsistency in the theology of amillennialism that claims that the binding of Satan depicted in Revelation 20:1–3 describes Jesus's victory on the cross.

Dr. Alan Kurschner discussed historicism, which is the eschatological position that says the thrust of prophecy in the Olivet Discourse and Revelation was fulfilled in the span of the church age.

For example, they would say that the Great Tribulation was not fulfilled in the first century, nor is it to be fulfilled in the future. Instead, it spans the entire church age (i.e., inter-advental). 

There are at least four reasons why Historicism is not a valid interpretation.

Dr. Alan Kurschner discusses the weakness of pretribulation rapture theology concerning how the fifth seal relates (or does not relate) to Paul's promise in 1 Thessalonians 5:9 about believers not having to experience the day of the Lord's wrath.

Second, he highlighted elements in the fifth seal passage showing how it points to a future wrath, not a wrath that is happening at that time.

Dr. Alan Kurschner talked about the key issue to the structure of Matthew’s Olivet Discourse: the relationship between vv. 9–14 and verse 15ff.

He first talked about the disciples’ questions about the sign of the parousia (second coming) and the end of the age, which opens up the discourse. Then he focused on the implications of the Greek conjunction oun (“therefore”) used in verse 15 for the overall structure, especially how it relates to the Antichrist’s great tribulation.

“So [oun] when you see the abomination of desolation–spoken about by Daniel the prophet—standing in the holy place (let the reader understand).” Matt 24:15

Dr. Alan Kurschner explained the larger context to the question of what is the nature of the apostasia ("apostasy"). Then he surveyed four views on the identification of the apostasy.

Dr. Alan Kurschner explained why the reference to the “Son of Man comes” in Matthew 10:23 refers to Jesus’s future second coming, not his first coming.

“Whenever they persecute you in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” (Matt 10:23)
