The government may be down, but The Bicoastal Hootenanny Starring Nate & Adam is running as strong as ever.

Adam begins episode 0035 by giving us a sneak peak into his world at Bar None in New York, New York, the home of Saints fans in The Big Apple. He then names and describes the Three Types of People He Hates the Most at Bar None.

Nate brings you “Shutdown Countdown Week” on “The Probe.” Ever wonder what parts of the government are actually shut down and what isn’t? Well wonder no more because Nate provides you with a list… and you’ll probably roll your eyes at the results.

But the real star of this week’s episode is everyone’s favorite segment, Adam’s “Balls.” Joining the Hootenanny this week is former West Monroe High School and LSU defensive end and linebacker and Bristol White Sox, Burlington Bees, Winston-Salem Warthogs, Birmingham Barons, and Charlotte Knights right hand pitcher Brian West. Brian dazzles the Hooteneers (and Nate and Adam) with stories from his days at LSU under the guidance of Nick “White Devil” Saban and being present for Adam’s first trophy ever. In anything.

Finding himself in a really deep hole, Nate fights not one but two foes in this week’s “First Down and Balls.”  Will he recover from such a huge deficit?  Stay tuned to find out…

This week Adam chats with Mets fan and basket case Eddie Zeine in the Citi Field parking lot, which is the former site of Shea Stadium.  They discuss the highs and lows and lows and lows and lows and lows of being Mets fans, and Adam declares that being a Mets fan is worse than being a pre-Brees Saints fan ever was.  Messrs. Wilson and Zeine part ways so that the latter can attempt to hang himself and that the former can get home to Brooklyn to give you the latest Song of the Month, which reminds Adam that he is excited about his upcoming trip to Tarrytown (¢) to see Louisiana blues legend Buddy Guy.

Emily opens up by dropping the big Breaking Bad bomb that the whole world could not shut up about- which sent Nate and Adam into a mini-debate about what constitutes a “spoiler.”

Nate opens the show by taking umbrage with CBS college football commentators Verne Lundquist and Gary (¢) Danielson. Noticing what he considered “sloppy commentating,” Nate creates The Uncle Verne and Gary (¢) D Drinking Game for the enjoyment of all Hooteneers everywhere…. which of course Adam shits on.

The boys happily welcome their monthly dose of class, Emily Ann Sanders Hyndman- who talks about an incident with her boobs on “See Emily Play.” Obviously, if any of you ladies have a problem with your boobs titties, you should come to Nate and Adam for advice.

“JD’s Office” touches upon 3 very different movies: Prisoners, Don Jon and the classic pee-wee football film Little Giants. After a weeks-long “absence” from the Office, Adam finally contributes. Granted, it’s about Ric Flair (¢) but who doesn’t like Ric Flair (¢)???

Nate brings you Hooteneers a very important, hard-hitting “Terror In The Skies” week on “The Probe.” Stay tuned- especially if you plan on flying any time soon. Adam has suddenly (and suspiciously?) taken an immense season lead in “First Down and Balls,” and Nate takes exception to that as they head into everyone’s favorite segment “Balls.“

Pretentious friends… we’ve all got them. Spiders… we all fear them (right?).

Nate starts off this week’s episode bitching about a pretentious friend and a black widow spider. Meanwhile, Adam rags on Nate for being uncomfortable/afraid of roller coasters.

In “JD’s Office” the boys are joined by Hootenanny favorite and Family Dinner improv veteran, James “The Godfather of Drôle” Brown. James discusses the milestone 500th show he just performed in with the Baton Rouge-based improv troupe. Nate praises Insidious 2 despite his experience being nearly ruined by a rude gaggle of “Middle-Eastern gentlemen” and shitty friends that don’t have his back.

Back to Florida we go in “The Probe“… this time for a little role-reversal. Yes, you guessed it! A white woman– who once gained brief notoriety as “Hiccup Girl“- was recently convicted of first degree murder. While the boys marvel at this racial flip-flop, Nate drops a bomb about Hiccup Girl’s…um… “associates”- which suddenly makes the situation more understandable.  Also, Adam gets a little hot under the collar when he hears news that a recently retired MMA fighter has challenged Michael Vick to a fight to “gain redemption.”

Adam’s losing streak to Frizzell comes to an end, as he takes week 4 of First Down and Balls. It’s a tight race with plenty of football left to play this season. This week in “Balls“, James Brown joins them… and takes not knowing team mascots to a whole new level.

Stay tuned next week, as Nate won’t be quite so tired and stupid (we hope) and Adam won’t be so angry (bullshit).

The boys are proud to welcome an old friend and fellow LSU alum- RW “Smitty” Smith- who fits right in on The Bicoastal Hootenanny Starring Nate and Adam.

Nate starts us off by asking Adam to judge his stature as a country music fan, and Adam’s response may shock you.

The boys open the door to “JD’s Office,” where they find good ol’ Smitty waiting for them. Smitty educates them on HBO’s The Wire, while Nate dares to question the quality of the once-popular Friday the 13th movies.

Back from the break, Nate congratulates Adam on a very successful Tootnanny Tuesday from last week- especially his treatment of friend/hostile listener/Auburn-Alabama fairweather fan Adam Hose.

“The Probe,” with the precision of a Mormon brain surgeon, brings a public service announcement to the citizens of Louisiana by uncovering the news of a vicious brain-eating amoeba called Naegleria Fowleri (also the name of someone Adam went on a date with once). Naturally this story leads to a discussion of what constitutes the Southeastern United States and the Civil War.

Wait… what?

Having truly rebounded back from an embarrassing first week, Nate once again shuts out Adam in last week’s “First Down and Balls.” By doing so, Nate takes the official lead in the season-long competition. Yes, Adam is shamed during his own segment- everyone’s favorite “Balls.”  Can he get back on the board? This week he not only has to deal with Frizzell but also with Smitty- who is no slouch at football knowledge himself.

Adam and Nate also do a happy dance as they recount the glorious splendor of the New Orleans Saints’ 2-minute drill that won them a very close game against Tampa Bay this weekend, while Nate brings us the final results of the US Open.

He was right, btw.

Adam woke up laughing this morning about a dream he had where he was the LSU version of Jack Hoffman.  After that, he opened up La Boîte aux Letters and read letters from Jon in Fort Worth, Basketball Dave in Monroe, and Adam & Lindsay in Jersey City.

Tootnanny Tuesday ends this week with an interview with Brooklyn Comedian Trey Galyon, who has Grade-A beef with the New Era Cap Company, who, according to him, misleads consumers into believing that their caps are made in the United States when, in fact, approximately 90% of them are made in China.  Being that New Era provides the official on-field caps of our national pastime, Trey takes great issue with this deception.

Do not buy New Era caps unless you hate America and love China.
