Interesting Premise, Needed Editing

Having worked briefly as a professional proofreader, I couldn't help but struggle with the editing in the Kindle edition of this book. By all accounts the printed version is better, but something in the conversion process did not go well for the Kindle edition, and the book suffers for it. That said, Kerry Fowers has an interesting approach to his story, taking it to unexpected places. His characters are emotionally expressive, and his settings are visually engaging. Worth the read, but I recommend getting the printed edition over the Kindle version.

The story line was interesting - there were just too many errors in the book - it needed better proofing.

Could Not Put Down

I could not put down this book. From the first page to the very last sentence, my emotions were taken on a thrill ride. If you like mystery, suspense,action, love, forgiveness, justice and just plain enjoyment than this book will fulfill all you need. The main characters grab a place in your heart and you are transported as if your right there when everything happens. I walked away from this book with suck eager anticipation that I am literally going stir crazy to see what happens next. You want a great journey, you better take this one, you wont regret it. To the author I would say this: Well Done, Well Done. Now write some more asap! As soon as this comes available for kindle, I gonna get it cause i will read this over and over through the years.

Could Not Put Down

From the very beginning, this book had me captivated. The author kept me intrigued wondering what would happen next. Just when I thought I could put the book down for a break, 10 more pages were read and I still hadn't the heart to take the break. The emotions from the characters are real and you can feel them as they feel them and I ended the last page of the book demanding there be more. You will like this book alot and you will read it many times through the years to come. I will get more books from the author Kerry Fowers. He will not disappoint you I promise.

Nate Nevwas/Crime Fighter/Superhero

Where there's trouble to be found there will be Nate Nevwas, literally! Whether it's stumbling into him or right around the corner. Leave it to the big old handicapped crime writer who loves his foster's lager and cheeseburgers, to end up in the thick of trouble.

There may be a woman and daughter kidnapping, hired killers, sunken treasures worth millions, high explosives, punks that need to be put in their place and a reward to be collected. With his buddy Mason who has hands the size of man-hole covers and used to play for the Miami dolphins and is a sheriff's deputy, they make for a wonderful team and great friends. I found the camaraderie between the two fun and at times quite comical.

Nevwas's Gold is a wonderful read with great characters that I found myself quickly invested in and I would love to read several more adventures with Nate and Mason. The high seas action in Florida was written so well I could picture it like I was watching a movie. There are other scenes that are also creative (no more spoilers) I suggest you read Nevwas's Gold. The ending left me immediately demanding an answer to well, I can't say...

Great story

Great story, great plot, believeable characters, great storyline. Cliff Roberts has made a great "detective" out of a middle-aged, disabled man. Five stars, easily!

Enjoyable read

This was a fun and lighthearted read. The hero is a very atypical person. Someone that takes in the world around him a notices things that are out of place and takes action rather than shrugging an invent off and walking on. He's a partially disabled, overweight guy with a couple of failed marriages in his past. He's friends with the local deputy sheriff, who is a retired all-pro football player. This is a buddy book. They snipe at each other throughout the book, sometimes making me laugh outright. This is a crime novel though and there is plenty of action to keep you turning the page (or clicking your Kindle). There are some twists and turns but it's fun following each discovery that they uncover.

Well worth the time to pick this one up.

Conch Republic starts off a bit shaky, but keep reading. Nate Nevwas and Detective Anthony Mason (of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department are both retired NFL football players, with a love/hate friendship. Mostly because Nate keeps getting involved in bad situations that Mason has to help fix.

Mostly OK book and OK narration..

I found this book interesting from the very beginning. I like to wonder why someone is killing from the time I start to read. And I like that theres an attraction between Sully and Breanna, too. And at 25% I was glad her son Cody still seemed like a good kid.

However, I just finished with a book where the heroine thought she could take care of myself. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Breanna was being an idiot to Sully at the hockey game and guess what? The killer tricked her into a room full of rats and locked her in. WTH makes authors think we want to read about a heroine thats TSTL? Im really tired of those kinds of females. Im at 71% now so Im going to finish but Ill tell you what, this author made Breanna so freaking stupid, all the while we are supposed to think she's strong??? She just did one stupid thing after another. There were 6 or 7 mammoth Special Ops guys there to take care of Breanna, Cody and her father Jack, and she kept making horrible decisions and arguing about what was right and wrong with the plans that were made. And, yeah, she did get taken by the killer. I simply hated her. And Ill never read this author again, for fear all her heroines will be just like Breanna.

This was a good murder mystery BUT it would have been excellent if the heroine hadnt been so incredibly stupid.

And, OMG, why cant I get away from these books where the hero gives the heroine some other name. First a book with Avery/Bambi, then Madison/Grasshopper, and now this one where her name is Breanna and Sully calls her Cookie 34 times. Seriously? This is getting ridiculous. Three books in a week? Name the girl and lets just call her that, ok?

There were two explicit sex scenes in this book and lots of desire, and the F-bomb was used 8 times.

As to the narrator: Henry McNulty was good. His men were well done and the ladies were excellent and he read with SOME emotions. I dont know what it was but he just wasnt memorable to me.

Good book

Nice story, read it all within a few days. I enjoyed it a lot except for the ending. I happened too fast and felt too simple after all the drama and tension.

Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole as a brilliantly flawed character

Nele Neuhaus captures police investigative work very capably. We may not get to know all of the intricacies of her characters as one does with say, Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole as a brilliantly flawed character, but they do impress more and more as her Bodenstein & Kirchoff stories evolve. A capable writer with solid plot lines. Recommended.

loved this book

loved this book. different stories going at once which all end up joining up, but definitely kept you reading page after page. The characters were interesting and you really felt for them. cant wait to read the last one Ice Queen

the usual suspects

why did i waste my time? paedo's , poorly portrayed characters(to many), not a match on fry and cooper or many other scan police procedurals, no atmosphere

Montmorency and the assassins

Well what a disappointment , after reading the first two with Stephen Fry as narrator I was so much looking forward to the third . Well what a let down. Stephen Fry has such a lovely animated voice , but this other chap had no variable intonations in his voice, I am afraid to say was really boring . I have just read about the bit where you can send books back , and unfortunately this is what I am going to do with this one . If Stephen Fry were to narrate all of the Montmorency books I will be in heaven !
