Everything hurts. Why did they do this to us? Baseball was no fun this week, and as the playoffs continue, it only gets worse. From here, we can only look out the window and wait for Spring.

    What Went Wrong?

Almost enough time has passed between the Orioles’ defeat in the AL Wild Card game, at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays that we can discuss the game in a mature, even-tempered way. Almost.
Look, the Britton thing was significant, and no one can deny that, but there were other deciding factors that ultimately led to the defeat. While discussing the usage of Britton, we also give credence to factors such as Tillman’s start, disappearing offense, and bullpen management (outside of the 11th).
    Damn. It still hurts.

Looking Forward – Two Steps Back?

In this segment, we cover what we should look forward to next season, in terms of personnel. Who will be back, who is worth pursuing, and what holes will result in this offseason of change. 2018 seems to be the tipping point for this team’s ability to compete, so in the meantime, what can the Orioles do to stay relevant now, and moving forward.
We discuss whether it is good enough to have a team that is pretty good (with a legit chance at the playoffs) for a number of years, or whether the short window of contention makes anything other than a World Series run a dereliction of duty.

THEY DID IT!!! Despite how things looked and felt in the middle of September, the Orioles are one of the five best teams in the AL, and have advanced to the one-game, loser-goes-home-and-weeps Wild Card game.
After what seems like a solid week of paceball games, the Orioles will be put to the test in the ultimate nail-biter, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Be honest: how many of you were certain that the Orioles’ season was over after the Red Sox sweep? Things looked pretty dire. But despite this, the Orioles scratched and clawed their way into the playoffs, and will face the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2016 AL Wild Card Game at (House of Horrors) Rogers Center.
To preview the game (series?), we invited friend of the program Greg Wisnewski, of BP Toronto. Greg is our go-to source for all things Canadian, and Blue Jays specifically. Seriously, if you want great baseball analysis, with a sense of humor, check out Greg (@coolhead2010) and the other great guys at BP Toronto (@BPToronto).

The Orioles have 13 games left in the 2016 regular season. They currently hold the first AL Wild Card position. Hold on to your butts. After a split with the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays, the O’s host the Boston Red Sox, in a series that can either end with the Orioles in contention for a division crown – or hopelessly out of it. We’re trying to remind ourselves that this is supposed to be fun.

    Offensive Fallacies

You hear complaints about this offense all the time.
They depend too much on the home run.
They can’t deliver with runners in scoring position.
This performance just shows that this team isn’t ready for October.
Well, Scott is here to tell you those complaints are… crap. This team may not be the best in baseball. It may not be the ’27 Yankees. But the 2016 Orioles have played pretty well, and if you look at all the things that are painful to watch in the moment, they really don’t have much to do with the final position of a team, if it makes the playoffs.
Join us for the myths of the Three True Outcomes in the Playoffs and the correlation between last minute performance and playoff results.

    Hate Train

Part of rooting for a baseball team is rooting against your rival baseball teams. And part of  rooting against your rival teams is letting some of their players reeeeeally get under your skin. Some of them do it well, others not so much.
