Yes, that is a “Miley” pun, for the episode title. No, we’re not sorry. Ladies and gentlemen, the Orioles did stuff at the trade deadline. We can’t say that it was particularly impressive stuff, but it was stuff. The O’s have been scuffling, but remain in first place.
Also, we heart Steve Pearce. Like whoa.

The #Orioles are showing that it's hard to be a buyer when you don't have anything worthwhile to sell.

The #Orioles just signed a guy who was pitching in Japan to their 25-man roster in late July. That's bizarre even by their standards.

    Around the Bases

There’s a lot going on right now. With that, it’s time to go Around the Bases.
First Base – Trade Deadline acquisitions
Second Base – Lackluster offensive performance
Third Base – Series to avoid
    Home Plate – Upcoming Schedule

    Fantasy Boss

Jake takes the week, as Chris Davis ended up in the over of 10.5 strikeouts. The score is no 7-5, and Scott is on the clock for the next category.
This week, we go very simple, as we look to see which Oriole tallies the most dongs. Jake went with new/returning Oriole, Steve Pearce, whereas Scott took Manny Machado.

Don’t forget about our 2016 Fantasy Boss Wild Cards!
Next Oriole to hit a triple.
    Scott: Schoop
    Jake: Wieters (yes, really)

Next Oriole to hit a HR 450+ ft
    Scott: Trumbo
    Jake: Schoop

Next Oriole with an 8IP start
    Scott: Gausman
    Jake: Tillman

    Next Oriole with  10+ Ks
    Scott: Tillman
    Jake: Wilson

The Orioles were a regular MASH unit this week, and had a poor showing against the Damn Yankees. Of course things are all terrible, right? Right? Actually……… as it turns out, the starting pitching did a passable impression of a major league rotation, and nobody really talked about it. The season moves pretty fast – if you don’t stop and look around, you might just miss it.

    This Medical Wing
This one is a little lengthy. It seems like everyone wearing orange and black spent at least some time there, this week. Here’s a look at this week’s Medical Wing:

    Chris Davis’ Day Off

The O’s were hit by the stomach bug this week. Suuuuuuuuuuuure they were. That’s the easy answer, if you want to accept that excuse. We have a more… colorful opinion of what actually took place.
The BEV Players are proud to present their production of Chris Davis’ Day Off.

    Fantasy Boss

Again, Jake and Scott pick the top 1 and 2 in their category this week, but much like Highlander (seriously, this show is all about 80s movie references this week), there can be only one.

Fresh off the All-Star break, it’s time for the first place Orioles to put the pedal to the medal, and see if they have what it takes to play into October. In the meantime, they may want to consider starting pitching. Like… doing it.

The 2016 BEVys are here! A loving (and occasionally mean-spirited) look back at the first half, as we hand out some fake hardware, with a little help from our friends.

  • 2016 BEVys
Welcome to the 2016 BEVy Awards!
The BEVys are a sometimes fond, sometimes mean-spirited look back on the first half of Orioles baseball, and a look ahead to what the rest of the season might hold in store.
This year’s show, the 4th Annual BEVy Awards begins, as always with a “mellifluous” opening, before hosts Jake English and Scott Magness break down the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the first half, focusing on:

    * Offense
    * Defense
    * Pitching

    2016 Awards
Of course, the show would not be complete, without the help of our friends and colleagues in the Bird-O’s-sphere. This year’s presenters include:

    Thanks!
The BEVys, and Bird’s Eye View as a whole would not be possible without the support we receive from friends, family, and colleagues in the Bird-O’s-sphere. We would like specifically thank the following:

    * The Voice of the BEVys, Jovial Jay Shephard.
    * The Baseball Widows (our wives), for putting up with this whole podcasting thing.
    * 2016 BEVys contributors: the awards were excellent, as always.
    * Other friends of the program:

    * Songs from the Moon, for providing the Bird’s Eye View theme song, “Watching the Orioles.”
    * OBP Apparel, for our awesome logo, and for many years of friendship and collaboration.
    * Our “sister wife podcasts” on the Baltimore Sports Report Network, to whom we owe many thanks for inspiration and occasional consolation.
    * Baseball Talk Radio, the home for independent baseball shows.

The Orioles are in first place in the AL East, and are 15 games above .500. It’s almost as if this is a good team – even with flaws. Maybe we should act like our team is good? And not freak out over every loss? Or something?

    Airing of the Grievances

We took off last week to rest up, and celebrate the Independence Day holiday. In that spirit (the Spirit of ’76?), we have prepared the following list of grievances, so that we might make our own declaration. Here, in this list, we let certain members of the Birdland community know that they are on notice. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, we whine about our first place team.

    Truth or Truth

With the All Star break upon us, we return to an old favorite, and ask ourselves a series of serious questions. And with all apologies to Steven Colbert, we want the truth… or we’ll settle for the truth.

    Fantasy Boss

This one was weird. We took an unexpected week off, and when we last left our “heroes,” Scott had selected the number of strikeouts. Jake went with Kevin Gausman, and Scott went with Chris Tillman.
Gausman won the first week 7-3.
