We get into discussion of the show by talking about how it became successful so fast, how starved we were for good media, and how good art is often not made individually. Neeta talks about how painfully white the show is and has a lot of feelings about Jolene. Gaia reflects on the barriers to entry in the chess world and the constructs of etiquette in so many other fields. We talk about how nice the subtle queer representation is in this show, nine rewrites not even being that many by playwriting standards, and how this show did Jolene so dirty this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’. We jump into the book by discussing why Stephen King feels compelled to write about hate crimes and slurs as a straight, white man, how they did Mike dirty in the movie, and why, even with all of this, the book is still “marginally” better than the movie (shocker, we know). Neeta mispronounces ‘auteur’ multiple times, Gaia has a breakdown over the sociopath bully children giving each other handjobs while also being homophobic to each other, we decide the only man allowed to write self insert films is Ari Aster and so much more this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.
