Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) & Tara Erickson (The Rage Pod) react to the explosive 2022 DCEU superhero blockbuster Black Adam, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, The Shallows) and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Fast & Furious, Jumanji) as Teth-Adam / Black Adam, the ancient antihero unleashed in the modern world. With his god-like powers and uncompromising sense of justice, Black Adam’s arrival shakes the foundations of the DC Universe.
The film also stars Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami, Leverage) as Carter Hall / Hawkman, leader of the Justice Society; Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as the mystical Kent Nelson / Doctor Fate; Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Recruit) as Atom Smasher; Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Master Gardener) as Cyclone; Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life, Person of Interest) as freedom fighter Adrianna Tomaz; and Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin) as the villainous Ishmael Gregor / Sabbac.
Among the film’s most talked-about moments are Black Adam’s brutal introduction, the Justice Society’s breathtaking battles against him, and the post-credits cameo featuring Henry Cavill as Superman, which had fans buzzing about the future of the DCEU. With electrifying action sequences, mythological backstory, and The Rock’s intense performance, Black Adam remains one of the most debated entries in DC’s cinematic legacy.
