We want to welcome you guys again to another episode of Black Men Vent Too. We present to you guys today our first episode into our ALL NEW SEASON for the month of July . As we’ve mentioned, this month we will focus squarely on “Music & Entertainment” in a black man . This season will host artists, producers, and musical minds across the city to come and vent about how they deal with the pros and cons of the industry as a black man 🎶

Today’s guest is Nashville native and underground rapper Waldo Daniels 🎙 A.K.A. “Waldo Shxt”

Waldo Daniels was born and raised in Nashville, TN and went to Stratford STEM Magnet High School. After graduating high school, at the age 17, Mr. Daniels furthered his education at a trade school and graduated with a certification for HVAC and Electricity in 2016.

Fast forwarding to 2020 , Waldo tells us that a woman who has her own dance classes had listen to one of Waldo’s songs and wanted to make a dance video with her team to it .

That is where everything changed for the young rapper.

After doing a successful video shoot to Waldo’s song “EAT Remix” and posting it on YouTube , it quickly became the video of the city everyone was talking about and even caught the eyes of Epic Records and United Masters . He later signed independent distribution contracts with both labels.

Waldo soon wants to put his city on his back and change peoples lives in the process of being on the rise in the music industry . He hopes to motivate others in his life with his music while sharing love and positivity 🖤

As time surpassed , Jordan began embracing his entrepreneurship skills by focusing on music & personal training. With all of this , the birth of his first baby girl came in 2021 and he talks on today’s show about how she “has him wrapped around her finger”. Being a girl dad is truly a blessing , and Jordan gets into a great conversation with us about that on today .

Dr. Benny Washington, Jr. truly has a remarkable resume padded with many accomplishments over his lifetime:

- B.S. (Biol.)-Tennessee State Univ. (1975)

- M.S. (Biol.)-Tennessee State Univ. (1979)

- Ph.D. (Biochem.)-Atlanta Univ. (1985)

- Has taught numerous courses in his professor career (Mammalian Physiology, Physiology & Pathophysiology, General Physiology, Systemic Physiology, Experimental Physiology)

- During his tenure at Tennessee State University, he trained more than 25 students with Masters Degrees, 2 students with Doctoral Degrees, and more than 10 students with undergraduate thesis

- Involved in the implementation of the Ph.D Program in the Department of Biological Sciences and trained the first Ph.D student in Biological Sciences

- Held membership in several professional organizations: Society of Neuroscience , Southeastern Pharmacology Society , Society of Cell Biology , & The American Clinical Society

With all of these achievements and more, Dr. Benny remains a true humble soul . He vents with us today about his experience with fatherhood and how training and guidance from his father helped him to be who he is and aided him in raising his own son . Today’s guest is a new father and he vents to us about how he has adapted to these beginning stages of fatherhood .

Christian Jordan is born and raised in Nashville, TN. He played baseball at Martin Luther King High School where he held a .380 batting and stole 30 bases . From there, in 2017 Mr. Jordan was granted a baseball scholarship at Cumberland University . Currently, Christian has created his own brand called “Double Play” ⚾️ ; which specializes in sneakers and streetwear. But he is most proud of his recent blessing, baby Josiah, who he talks proudly about on today’s episode .

We’re officially now in a new month , and our audience knows that with a new month comes a NEW SEASON OF BMVT! We’re super excited to bring to the month of June “Fatherhood” as a topic of discussion for this month . We will host guests that are young and old in the father role and get them to vent on how they’ve embraced the fatherhood title. Today’s guest surely provides #BMVT with a great roadmap into our new season .

Pastor Doctor James Douglas Clay is today’s guest on Black Men Vent Too 🖤🙏🏽

- Born in Chicago, Illinois

- Attended Chicago Public Schools until moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1981

- Enlisted in the United States Army and served for 4 ½ years.

- Has worked for Fortune 500 Corporations, inclusive of ADT, AT&T, Comcast, DirecTV, and Time Warner.

- After returning from military service, he joined the New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago and acknowledged his call to the ministry in February 2005.

- In August 2005 he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee and united with the St. James Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained in November 2009.

- Graduate of the American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible Theology, earned his Master of Christian Education, Master of Divinity and most recently, Doctor of Ministry degrees from Hosanna Bible College in Durham, North Carolina.

- Call to the Gospel Ministry in February 2005; calling him to the pastorate of the Victory Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago in November of 2009, where he served faithfully until May 2013.

- June 30th, 2013, Reverend Clay was elected Pastor of the New Visions Baptist Church of Nashville, TN.

- Pastor Clay additionally serves as the Moderator of the Stones River District Association.

- Previously served as Vice-President of the Pastor's and Ministers Division of the Middle Region of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Educational State Convention of the National Baptist Convention U.S.A.

- Pastor Clay is also employed by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department where he serves as a Chaplain.

- Dr. Clay is a Life Member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; initiate into the Omega Lambda Lambda Chapter , and currently serves as his Chapter’s Chaplain.

As always, we want to thank you guys for supporting us throughout our “Coaching & Mentorship” season this month . It has truly been a great season with great content , and today we’re wrapping up our season with my good friend and good brother … Coach Graham .

Jamonte Graham, born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, grew up in East Nashville in the South Inglewood and Park wood neighborhoods. He attended Goodlettsville Middle School, being a star student-athlete in football and basketball and then continued his education at Father Ryan High School where he became an all state player in both football and basketball (2012-2013).

Once he finished his high school career, he accepted a full-ride scholarship to Tennessee State University to further his education and athletics. After his freshman year there, he transferred to Columbia State Junior College where he became a Conference champion, making the All Tournament Team, and making it to the Sweet 16 of the National Tournament. Graduating from Columbia State with his Associates Degree in 2015, Coach Graham then went and finished his last two years at Cumberland University, receiving a degree in Sports Management in 2017.

Once his college career ended, Mr. Graham ventured into the new career he has today ; coaching 6th and 7th grade AAU with the Team Heavy program. Coach Graham started his high school coaching career at Lighthouse School (2018-2019), where he won a MTAC State Championship and NCSAA Division-4 National Championship. For the last 3 years, he’s coached at his alma mater Father Ryan High School. Coach Graham served as the Assistant Varsity Coach and the Head Coach of the freshman team where he won two championships in 3 years.

#BMVT enjoyed our conversation and time with Coach Graham . A young black man that has embraced the world of coaching and is using what he’s learned to mentor the generation ahead . As a podcast , we also want to congratulate him on becoming a new dad to twins : a beautiful baby boy 💙 & baby girl 💕 .

Once again, it’s Monday morning and #BMVT continues to roll out new content for your listening ears . As always , we thank you for your support , shares of episodes , and generous feedback you all have given in order to make Black Men Vent Too better . Keep praying for us and with us as we aim to change the narrative of what black men are all about each and every episode .

On today’s episode of #BMVT Nashville we bring on a guest that , in our culture , what he does may be out of the ordinary to some . We have been stereotyped for years as a culture of not being able to swim or know how to swim . Kenneth Stewart embraced not only that stereotype , but found a passion in swimming as a black man . But not just any type of swimming , Mr. Stewart for years has created programs centered around deep sea diving for lost artifacts of SLAVE SHIPS all across the world . Nashville … our guest has even been featured on an episode of National Geographic, the world’s premiere destination for science, exploration, and adventure (click the link below to see the full episode).

Ken Stewart is from The Bronx, NY and has called North Nashville home for the last 30 years. He is an IT professional by trade with companies including, IBM. He is now chosing to give back after retirement in a very extraordinary way by shaping the lives of Nashville youth through aquatics and maritime archaeology. He established the Tennessee Aquatics Project (TAP) and later Diving With A Purpose (DWP), a non-profit organization connecting recreational scuba diving to the tenets of STEM. His efforts are currently recognized and displayed in the new National Museum of African-American History and Culture in D.C. for the work both DWPers and YDWPers (as Ken refers to his community of participants) did with the Slave Wreck Project. Chatting with Ken was a true blessing, as I felt I was literally hearing about true history in the making from an even more genuine soul. In this age, you are hard pressed to run into people who are selfless and are driven by the betterment of the human experience.

TAP officially started in 1995 in Nashville with a mission to give youth a 360 degree approach to living their best life and as he shares, “Diving was just a natural way to do it”. He has worked with Whites Creek, Hunters Lane and Pearl Cohn high schools to identify students each year to participate in the program. TAP has helped over 25+ youth each year since its inception.

We would hope that today’s episode, and others, will give you guys inspiration behind learning more about our black history .

Memphis native JB Smiley Jr. , also known as “Son Of The City” , has truly had an adventurous life journey that has led him to being a now candidate for Governor of Tennessee. Nashville , let’s take a look at the list of achievements and endeavors Mr. Smiley, Jr. has been a part of .

- Collegiate & Semi-Professional Basketball Career

- Former Student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

- Immediate involvement within the Young Dolph case and movement in Memphis

- Served as a member of the Law Review, Moot Court Board, and as Vice President of the Black Law Students Association

- An author , writing his first book titled “Born With It: Unleashing Your Greatness”.

- In Memphis, JB started his law practice in 2017 called Smiley & Associates, PLLC.

- In 2018, JB was named to Memphis Flyer’s Top 20, Under 30 class.

- Appointed policy advisor to the Shelby County Clerk and served in such capacity until his election to the Memphis City Council in October 2019.

- Featured on the Tennessee Journal, Fox 13 Memphis, Daily Memphian, and a host of many other media platforms.

These are just a few of the many things Mr. Smiley has accomplished , and as you can see , he surely is a busy man. He vents on todays episode of “Coaching and Mentorship” on how his father was his biggest mentor . Sharing with him different things throughout his lifetime and always reminding him to “never forget the bridge that brought you over”.
