I am so pleased that Ana Escobar joined me to speak about relationships with people who have bulimia. Both sides. Our process of being with someone while being bulimic, and our partner's reaction.
I loved that Ana speaks about how it is difficult for someone you are with to understand bulimia and the relationship with food if they don't have that issue.
There has to be an understanding on the bulimic's side that some people in a relationship do not want to deal with it. They will accept you without wanting to be a part of it.
Ana speaks about coming out of a divorce. About letting go and that there are better things that will come out of it.
Ana works not only with bulimics and people with eating disorders, and she also works with people about relationships, so this was a key topic for her to share with us.
She said there are two things. You work together in a partnership with the eating disorder, or you understand that you have to deal with it on your own. Someone willing to want to work with you, it's because they have the time. However, a person who doesn't have a fear of food may not be able to participate in the healing process. At that point in your life, you have to decide. Ir is not that they don't love you. But do you want to stay with someone who doesn't want to participate or someone who is sympathetic and caring enough to take the time to be there for you?
It is a very difficult position for someone to find out that their partner has bulimia. It is a very difficult position for someone with bulimia or with an eating disorder to feel that there are no emotions from their partner about it.

Without expectations, life is a better way to live. It removes the suffering, and pain from you. Goals are important, but expectations are a different thing. There is a difference.

Rodney speaks about nutrition and shares how people's spoken words can affect you. Too skinny? Too fat? Many times people say things and you have to reframe those words. Mindset. Reframing and conditioning your mind with positive things, says Rodney.
Turn things into the positive.
Don't put so much emphasis on the scale.... learn a healthy lifestyle. Focus on how you feel. Not the scale. Too many factors that affect the scale. It's not the answer. And Rodney speaks to being the best version of ourselves.

NO DIET sadly because it's now LIFESTYLE. Why? Because society and media have bastardized that word. So don't use diet. Use lifestyle. Let's hope they don't bastardize lifestyle now!! :)

Katharine is lovely. Everyone tells you to forgive. Or to forgive and forget. She said maybe a Unicorn exists and that there is someone who can forgive and forget. But she said she is not that person.
Just because you forgive doesn't mean you have to continue with a relationship.
Katharine said forgiveness is selfish. It's for you. If you dumb it down, you want to stop thinking about that person. You want all of it out of your head. It makes you feel lighter. It is selfish, but selfishness is important.
I love that Katharine said that you have a scale of 1 to 10 in forgiveness. She recommends starting with the number one. The simpler people to forgive.
A witty and beautiful lady, she said that sometimes you need to forgive yourself. If you cannot, then forgive yourself for not forgiving yourself. And forgive the food if you are bulimic.
This was such a wonderful discussion. I can't write as much as I want to here because no one really reads all this... so let it be known. This is worth listening to. Forgiveness is difficult. Katharine has an answer to that... people and places and things.
Put the glass down... and start with the ONE and not the TEN.

What a brilliant woman. Author of the 7X Method and The Thin Formula.
After graduating from business she went into Real Estate. After a bad experience, she went back to school for physical therapy. When COVID broke out she was being reached out for jobs and decided that she didn't want the tips.
Dr. Sarah wrote two books and even did a turnaround to start her own business.
She was an anorexic gymnast and bulimic cheerleader. She wrote a case study on a bulimic and did a brain chemistry test. I won't go through all what she received as a result, but it's so interesting to listen to. She spoke to chemical imbalances, and her tests determined the dosages.
Dr. Sarah doesn't believe Big Pharma wants to share about these tests. You will hear more about that by listening to this Podcast.
I asked how she tests? She laughed. Simple. Just pi in a cup. You get your results in 10 days. DNA is a swab, or finger prick for allergies, but everything else, it's simple. It is just a urine test that provides all the results.

Dr. Kim Peirano has dealt with people with eating disorders with her own story. She said she was never really interested in acupuncture. She had many different interests and realized she was ADHD and it made sense. She graduated from the Arts with a sculpture degree, which she realized may not be financially feasible.
She took yoga and was fascinated. That was when she wanted to become a Naturopath.
Through the Pandemic she realized she couldn't put her acupuncture practice online. She moved to hypnotherapy and moved into the Chinese therapy.
Dr. Kim also had her own struggles.
Dr. Kim brings up that acupuncture does not have magic in losing weight. She was on Weight Watchers since 8 years old. Then she found intuitive eating. She reaches people by finding out what the core of it is.
She takes care of those who have been harmed by the alternative wellness world, based on scams, and she helps them reverse their thoughts.

What a great conversation with Clint! I learned so much. I always do, but this was different.
There is no tougher job than being a teacher, he says. I agree. Yet what was really compelling was the fact that he mentioned teachers are not taught to deal with children with mental health issues. They are not taught to be mental health communicators. So true.
This became his passion and his reason for becoming a Mental Health educator. Not just that. A Master Mental Health Educator.
His own loss of his brother to an overdose of fentanyl gave me goose bumps. I had a niece that they said it was an accidental overdose. 23 years old. That year I had 3 friends lose their brother, cousin, and sister lose their lives along with my niece. 2020.
He uses amazing words in this very compelling podcast, including his definition of HALT. This is very much something everyone, and Bulimics struggling should be aware of. Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. Feeling any one of these? They will trigger an addiction.
Expressing emotion without fear is another difficult thing to do, and that is where we need to focus on is it though?
I love his explanation about the left brain and the right brain. Ongoing trauma lives in the right brain. Listen to hear about this and the ability to express emotions without fear of punishment. Can you relate? I can.
Although Clint is focused on teenagers and young adults, he is right. And I agreed. Reaching out to adults too is important—adults who have experienced what he speaks about and never reached out for help. It's never too late.

I really enjoyed having Leanne on my Podcast as a guest. What a lovely young lady with so much enthusiasm for helping those who have eating disorders understand that it is not an issue with food, it is rooted in the mental psyche. I loved when she said after she lost 100 pounds that she still saw herself through "fat goggles". (Noted the movie where the "Rock" saw the same with Kevin Heart. Listen to find out the name of the movie. :) )
Diss-ease. What a great way to explain an "eating diss-order". The need for control becomes uncontrollable.
I also loved when Leanne said that we learn "the dieting language" and we metaphorically need to change our language to move from food focus to healthy focus.
The other big part of this was about shame. Yes, I felt it for 30 years going against my values of lying and secrecy... "the little dirty secret".
Leanne helps her clients "turn off" their focus on food. I like that.

What a lovely conversation with Dr. Fred, and his passion for his new book Find Your True Voice he says it goes along with the technology and what we talked about today and it does.
It's about connecting with human beings.
Dr. Fred was the youngest of 3 sons; his brothers were over 10 years older. He was told he was a bundle of love and joy. Admittedly he says maybe not all the time, but that was his memory. He watched his brothers communicate with his parents. He said from a young age he would have to learn this communication.
Dr. Fred as a child was always smart, top of his grade, and funny and got into trouble. His seeking how to communicate was a frustration in school. Junior high was no better, nor was college.
He dropped out, then returned to computer science, and again he didn't want to punch cards. So he dropped out again. His mother said he needed a job. So he got one at a Child Worker in Michigan in January 1980. It was there he learned what communication was about.
Dr. Fred says this world is uncomfortable. Your level of maintaining yourself is working for you at times to have a smile. It gives you a purpose. But some people don't have that feeling. They don't want to get out of bed. He asks if there is a justification for being sad or scared or being nervous about how things are going to work out, or the voices in your head. Oh ya.
Just don't go to the hospital telling them that because those voices are fine but they will put you in the psychiatric ward, and you will be put on medication that will create the symptoms of being what they diagnosed you as as a schizophrenic.
All these people wanted was to make a difference. What is a human? They want to be heard, they want to be heard, they want to make a difference and they want to be part of this planet. We all want to be liked, but no one cares.
This is where Dr. Fred came up with Find Your True Voice and Welcome To Humanity.
Whatever you say, it's about Humanity. Hellish and beauty of being a part of humanity. He also undoctors people. What if there is nothing wrong with you?
Dr. Fred said that eating disorders were a more difficult part. But he makes a point. If you can accept that "this is humanity", and not put yourself down, it's easier to accept that you can, in this world of humanity, find a way to get over it, accepting it's part of your humanity at this time.
Dr. Fred did say some people do have medication that truly does help them. However, other people are given medication that only exacerbates the issue.

I wanted to have Matt O'Neill as a guest because I know so many people who struggle with their moods. It was something I struggled with even more so when I was bulimic. When I gave up on bulimia and found peace within myself, my temperament changed. I won't say I still don't have those moments I snap, but as I shared, I am acutely aware of my emotions, which I wasn't when I ate them and then purged them. And you never really purge them, you bury them further down.
What I love about this conversation is when Matt equated negativity to "Pain Body". I have never heard that before, and it made so much sense.
So who is Matt? He is a renowned podcast host, entrepreneur, and Forbes books author here to share his mission for spreading positivity. And how do you do that?
One particular part of our conversation was revealing to me. Love first. Don't judge. Matt explains that empaths can feel negative emotions from others. This is where is speaks to viewing situations as opposite.
We spoke to being spiritual, yet the teachings of Jesus were of "love first". And to understand that someone else's negativity is what they are going through and may try to project it on you to bring you down with them.

I know this is a weird introduction, but the other night I watched Atlas with Jennifer Lopez. In the movie, there were AI robots. A couple of kinds. The one that saved her was the one that she had to simulate her mind with the Robot Smith. It took her all she could to do that final 100% sharing of her feelings. The key to her survival. I believe sinking with ourselves is just that. And this is where Ana's story intrigued me to how it related to finding yourself. JLo found herself through a robot asking her to fully engage her mind to help them both work together for him to help her survive. The truth is, WE need to synch with ourselves to survive.
The key to our survival is knowing what is in our hearts. Ana shared her intimate story, and at that moment she said "I shared with my cousin I was bulimic. She was the first person I told" I cried. I cried because I know the emotions of "coming out".
Ana turned her life around by finding what is in her heart, her passion, and her MISSION. She is now a Spiritual Coach. With the help of Reiki and Card Reading, she helps those who struggle with eating disorders to find the same path of recovery she did. And what is important is her Clients know she is speaking from the heart because she traveled that journey and recovered.
Ana says it's about opening up the heart and sharing. It sounds easy, but it's not. Trust is required. It is why she opens her heart to her Clients so they know being vulnerable is the best way to be and that she can be trusted because she has been there.
Ana's story is beautiful. Sad, caring, and about learning that everything happens for a reason. Her's is to serve, and help those who need to reach out and heal.
