❗ Visa, in collaboration with HSBC and Hang Seng Bank, has successfully concluded the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot program conducted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) The e-HKD program involves tokenization of deposits, where the money deposited with a bank is minted on the firm’s own blockchain ledger with the backing of its balance sheet. 🔴 VanEck, an asset management company, has submitted a revised application for a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Exchange Commission (SEC). This filing, made on October 27, introduces an innovative method for initiating the fund by providing a block of 50,000 shares for the proposed ETF.

🔴 One notable aspect of VanEck’s amended filing is the revelation that an unnamed seed capital investor acquired Seed Creation Baskets for the VanEck Bitcoin Trust in October. These Seed Creation Baskets consist of 50,000 shares of the proposed ETF, and they were bought using Bitcoin.

❗ Important to note The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is currently deliberating on multiple ETF proposals from BlackRock, Invesco US, Bitwise Inc, VanEck, + Valkyrie

Last week, the Bitcoin blockchain saw a year-to-date peak in the number of transactions involving the movement of at least $100,000 worth of BTC, reaching 23,400, as reported by blockchain analytics company IntoTheBlock IntoTheBlock in a newsletter on Friday. “Transactions of over $100k had previously spiked in late June after Blackrock’s ETF filing and have now surpassed that level as Bitcoin sets new yearly highs.”.

🚨Kraken Digital Asset Exchange has announced that it will share data on tens of thousands of its users with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in compliance with a court order. The information to be shared includes cryptocurrency transactions above $20,000 made by Kraken customers between 2016 and 2020, along with personal details such as name, date of birth, Tax ID, address, and contact information. ❗ In June, a federal judge ordered Kraken to share such information with the IRS, after a two-year legal battle between the privacy-minded crypto company and the federal government over data sharing. Per legal filings in that case, 42,017 Kraken accounts are set to be impacted by the ruling.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will no longer pursue claims against Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse or Executive Chairman Chris Larsen that they aided and abetted the company in violating federal securities laws canceling a trial scheduled for next year.

❗ Security researcher and developer Antoine Riard has announced his departure from the Lightning Network development team. He cites concerns about security issues and fundamental challenges to the Bitcoin ecosystem as the reasons behind his decision.

🚨 Riard’s concerns were outlined in a thread on the The Linux Foundation Foundation’s public mailing list. He suggests that the Bitcoin community is grappling with a difficult decision as a novel form of replacement cycling attacks poses a serious threat to the stability and security of the Lightning Network. 🔴 Tether has aided 31 agencies worldwide with investigations across 19 jurisdictions, freezing a total of $835 million in assets mostly associated with theft (blockchain and exchange hacks) with a minor portion to other crimes. Tether has frozen 32 addresses, containing $873,118.34, that were found to be linked to illicit activity in Israel and Ukraine. Tether has been working with the NBCTF in Israel to counter cryptocurrency-funded terrorism and warfare.
