❗ A federal government shutdown is looming, set to begin on October 1 unless Congress successfully passes spending legislation. In the event of a shutdown, nonessential government functions would come to a halt. From 01st Oct, Looks like  It's black and it's pink once the sun down, When the Republicans pull up, you know it's a shutdown.  This means that federal workers would not receive their paychecks, some households may experience delays in receiving certain federal benefits, and customer service for individuals with student loans and other federal services could face significant disruptions. The longer the shutdown lasts, the greater the potential impact will be on various aspects of government services and the lives of citizens.

What does it mean for Crypto?

🟠 The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has extended the deadlines for reviewing the applications for spot Ether ETFs submitted by ARK 21Shares and VanEck. Additionally, they have granted more time for the evaluation of spot Bitcoin ETF applications from ARK 21Shares and GlobalX, with these extensions taking effect on September 26th.

🟠 In separate notices filed Sept. 27, the SEC said it would designate a
longer period on whether to approve or disapprove of a proposed rule change that would allow listings of spot ETH ETFs from VanEck and ARK 21Shares on the Cboe Global Markets BZX Exchange. The commission said it had received no public comments on either proposal and would push the deadlines for another delay or decision to Dec. 25 and Dec. 26, respectively. ❗ The Federal Reserve Banks of Boston and New York published a staff report on Sept. 26 comparing stablecoins, such as Tether USDT and Circles USDC to money market funds.

📊 The report titled “Runs and Flights to Safety: Are Stablecoins the New Money Market Funds? is here https://lnkd.in/d9c2DSEe In the report they investigate similarities and differences between the two, comparing investor behaviour during the stablecoin runs of 2022 and 2023 to investor behaviour during the money market fund runs of 2008 and 2020. The report acknowledges that similarly to money market fund investors, stablecoin investors engage in a flight to safety.

🟩 On-chain analytics show that Ethereum network fees have dropped to their lowest levels in 2023, averaging about $1.15 for each transaction. In 2021 & 2022 the average fees reached above $50 but this was during the POW era. A decline in fees is a positive sign for Ethereum’s utility and adoption, as lower costs make it more profitable and worthwhile to use the network. But what does it mean for the price of #ETH. 🚨The FOMC holds eight regularly scheduled meetings during the year. Scheduled events can be found here https://lnkd.in/d3JdKRGz Will Fed chair Jerome Powell increase the interest rate hike? Forbes article here https://lnkd.in/d9KhTM2W states Investors expect the Federal Reserve Board to maintain interest rates at current levels during its upcoming meeting on September 19–20. The S&P 500 has gained 17.3% year-to-date on optimism that inflation is trending in the right direction.

🚨What does this mean for Crypto? Important to note any surprises could have significant repercussions for risk assets, including crypto.

🚀 The Fed will likely pause on rate hikes and opt to keep the federal fund’s target rate range between 5.25% and 5.5%. It will also likely continue to allow assets to roll off its $8.1 trillion balance sheet.

🔥 In a strongly worded court submission on Monday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) emphatically called on a D.C. court to grant permission for an examination of Binance.US. This action reinforces earlier allegations that the company has not complied with the SEC’s request to provide essential documents during the ongoing legal proceedings. The SEC believes Ceffu, rebranded earlier this year from Binance Custody, may also be serving Binance.US, and therefore being used to shift U.S. customer funds out of the country in violation of a previous agreement to not do so. 🚨On September 14th, Binance made an official announcement on its social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter). The announcement revealed that Binance had initiated a process to burn several Binance-pegged tokens. Notably, among the tokens marked for burning, four were variants of BUSD tokens, each associated with different blockchain networks. Tweet here https://lnkd.in/dYetsbed

🎙️ As per the announcement, the burning process for these Binance-pegged tokens would occur on their respective blockchains. Subsequently, Binance would release an equivalent amount of tokens that had initially served as collateral on their native networks.

❗ Binance has also announced plans to stop offering support for the stablecoin completely by 2024. Paxos also revealed that it will cease all BUSD redemptions in February 2024,

🛑 Coinbase layer-2 network Base hit a new peak in terms of daily transactions, breaking its former record when it was launched in August, according to data from blockchain explorer BaseScan. Coinbase’s Base Network hits almost 2M transactions in a day, surpassed other layer-2 networks like Optimism and Arbitrum in terms of daily transactions but still lagged behind Polygon and BSC. 🟠 Looks like his wallet was drained of a number of stablecoins, Lido staked ETH, SuperRare, and Ethereum Name Service (.ens domains) tokens.

🚨 Elliptic reports In the past 104 days, Lazarus has already been identified as responsible for stealing almost $240 million in crypto assets from Atomic Wallet ($100m) CoinsPaid ($37.3M), Alphapo ($60M), & Stake.com ($41M). Elliptic analysis confirms that some of the funds stolen from CoinEx Global were sent to an address which was used by the Lazarus group to launder funds stolen from Stake.com, Iinfo here https://lnkd.in/duAdXx8A

The account that paid $500,000 to move $2,000 worth of Bitcoin was a Paxos server, the company stated. More info via Cointelegraph

🔥 Approximately 20 BTC (over $515,000 worth at the time) to send just 0.07 BTC (worth less than $2,000). 
🚨 Luckily the block that contained the transaction was confirmed by Bitcoin mining pool f2pool. On Sept. 10, the pool’s management offered to return the funds to whoever sent the transaction if a claim was made within three days.

❗ On September 13, Swift, the bank messaging platform, disclosed that three central banks have officially entered the beta phase of its project focused on achieving interoperability for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). The Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Central Bank of Kazakhstan and an unnamed central bank have integrated their infrastructure with SWIFT’s “CBDC connector solution” for direct testing, the company said.
