Texting is the norm. It's how we work, live and play. But is it hindering communication in a way that's keeping us from having good conversations? I think so. The average person sends anywhere from 20-60 texts per day. No wonder we're distracted all the time.
This weeks episode was inspired by a friend who called me out of the blue and it made me think about how little time I spend actually talking on the phone and how I have replaced that with texting.
So it's time to find other alternatives to keep communication fresh. Mix it up! Send a voice text, FaceTime or send a video recording of you singing Happy Birthday. There are lots of options. It's time to start making technology work for you, not the other way around!
Here are some helpful tips on how to take charge of messages and notifications:
- Set A Focus Time
- Turn Off Notifications
- Don't Reach For Your Phone When You Wake Up
- Don't Go To Bed With Your Phone
- Pay Attention To What's In Front Of You
Texting is good for certain things, but there are many other things so much better than a text. This week, get creative with your communication skills. You just might find out that you've missed the days of chatting on the phone.
