(Bloomberg) -- Robert Mintz, a partner and McCarter and English, discusses an appeals court ruling that will allow federal agents to obtain cell phone location records without getting a warrant first. The ruling aligns the Fourth Circuit court with three other regional appeals courts, and now allows law enforcement officers in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia to obtain cell phone location data by simply showing that the records are relevant to an ongoing investigation.
