This weekend are two BIG events for the Christmas season in Altoona. 

Friday night is the “Glow Up” event with Vendors, music, movies, fireworks, and more. The following day is the Spirit of Christmas Parade presented by Courtesy Motors.

We talked to just a few of the many people who helped put these events together- First is Altoona Mayor Matt Pacifico and City Clerk Linda Rickens, then Ashley Burgmeier from Burgmeier Hauling. Burgmeier Hauling has been involved in Glow Up Altoona and The Spirit of Christmas Parade for many year. 

Last, it is JT Ventura from Courtesy Motors. He talked to us about the awesome community work of Courtesy Motors with The Courtesy Cares program and he gave a little tease of what Courtesy will be doing  this Saturday at the parade.

Did you know that about half of US families don’t have enough diapers each month?

The United Way of the Southern Alleghenies gives out about 6,000 diapers A MONTH. 

The United Way wants your help with this issue this Friday at Tractor Supply in Ebensburg with a Diaper Drive!

You can bring diapers, wipes, or a monetary donation. 

We talked to Karen Struble Myers, President & CEO about this event and the work of The United Way of Southern Alleghenies.

Aditi Sridhar went to Richland High School and graduated from The University of Pittsburgh. 

She recently debuted her short film “Pivot” at the 14th annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

She co-wrote, produced, and directed the film.

The Johnstown Generals is a hockey team for active duty and military veterans. 

Through hockey, they provide our veterans with fellowship and mental and physical health. 

They also do amazing work throughout the community.

The Orchestra Featuring Members Of Electric Light Orchestra In Johnstown This Weekend!

The Orchestra is coming to town this weekend. Friday, October 27th, they will be on the campus of University of Pittsburgh- Johnstown at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center. 

The Orchestra has six former members of Electric Light Orchestra and they will bring all the classic hits of ELO!

We talked to famed concert promoter Rich Engler (Rolling Stones, Elton John, Billy Joel, and many more) about the show, his book and documentary, and more on the night Sebastian Bach from Skid Row caused quite a lot of trouble in Johnstown!

John King honed his craft as a songwriter from an early age. He has become a Number 1 songwriter, penning Randy Houser's chart-topping "We Went" (which earned him a 2016 ASCAP Songwriter Award). He's playing an average of 150 while launching his solo career with "Tonight Tonight" — a Top 40 hit heard everywhere from country radio to the weekly NFL recaps on CBS 

He released his first full-length album with 2021's Always Gonna Be You.

This Saturday is The Johnstown Stand Down Event. 

The event is at Johnstown Veterans Leadership Program- Goucher Street in Johnstown

It includes FREE services for our veterans like free breakfast and lunch, clothing, general health care, employment resources, and more.

The 7th Annual Recovery in the Valley is this Saturday at Johnstown’s Central Park. 

The event will feature four speakers from different paths of recovery, music, entertainment for all ages, and children’s activities. 

Food will be provided by local vendors and each attendee will be given a voucher for a complimentary lunch.

This weekend in Downtown Johnstown, it is the 3rd Annual Downtown Johnstown Culture Crawl!

It is 6 to 9 on Saturday night. 

Twenty different venues in Downtown Johnstown will be a part of the crawl. 

Walk around downtown and enjoy live music, art exhibits, poetry, tours, and much more.

The Vampire 5K is Saturday, October 14th at Jari Drive in Johnstown. 

 The event benefits the American Red Cross. 

 If you sign up by September 30th, you can receive a shirt designed by 7th grade artist Lily Puryear. 

 Overall winners at the race will receive gift cards but everyone can enjoy and good time and snacks while you socialize, raise awareness, promote healthy living and just have a grand time!
