Board Game Point of View

In an episode manned by but two of our intrepid hosts, Steven and Adam don swanky suites and party hats to discuss two games that have taken the board gaming industry by super secret storm. To start the show, one of the crew sits under the hot lights to answer questions about his early automotive history. Later… Steven asks very personal questions about beach going hygiene, Adam wonders if there is a stamp of board game disapproval and a special guest joining the men to talk about the game of the podcast.

In this very special Thanksgiving episode the crew talks about their favorite holiday foods, crippling Frisbee injuries and the benefits of keeping swans in your castle. Joining the regular assortment of hosts is Mr. Gregory… wine expert, game enthusiast and romancer of gnomes. They kick the show off by diving deep into the Board Game Geek vault to unearth a couple of games that may just find their way onto your Thanksgiving day gaming table. It then wraps up with a compare and contrast of two building games fit for an eccentric king.

In this very spooky episode, the BGPOV crew talks about some of their favorite scary video games, zombified feline shenanigans and mysterious traffic cones. The team resurrects ten of their favorite games to play on Halloween and unearths some of the most horrific offerings from Board Game Geek. The show then concludes in a very heated discussion as they ponder the burning question… does Princess Peach actually have the hots for Luigi?

Quick Addendum: The portion of the show indicating that we are part of the Dice Tower Network accidentally found its way to the cutting room floor during editing. However, rest assured we are still a proud member of the best board gaming network on the planet.

With a short break out of the way, the Board Game Point of View returns with mech-warrior-like vengeance to battle the tabletop game-size holes in the hearts of the population at large. The crew talks about trends in fashion, food and the latest in agricultural warfare. Steven is left drooling after backing his very first Kickstarter project, Seth has an altercation with some salsa and Adam talks about portly men happily walking dogs down country roads. The show then concludes with a surprise guest who has a beef to pick with two of our youngest hosts.

They also mull over the sanitary dilemma of playing dexterity games with a super hero, revel in the glory of real metal coins and wonder… why is all the rum gone? The show then wraps up with a riveting summation of Dungeons & Dragons from one of its newest converts. (Spoiler Alert: Mistakes were made.)

The show then concludes with the first in a new series focused on our small group of Dungeons and Dragons adventurers and the dos and don’ts of starting your first campaign. In this episode (the obligatory classic games podcast), the BGPOV crew shifts gears and sits down for a serious look at a handful of games that everyone knows… and contemplates why that may not be such a good thing. Seth and Adam offer suggestions to those looking to get their friends and family into the hobby, Steven is sent on a quest to commune with public at large and Kaylee has a heated conversation in regards to the number eight. The evening then concludes by discussing the merits of dinosaurs and aliens in board games (spoiler alert… they’re always a good idea).

Plaid Hat’s Alex Eding joins Board Game Point of View under the spotlights for what can only be described as a three ring circus of a show! In the opening act, we discuss the inhuman success of Dead of Winter at this year’s Dice Tower Awards and tip our hats to one game that probably should have won. Then, experience unimaginable terror as Steven’s question to Alex forces one member of the group to rage quit… or take a bathroom break (I’ve heard it both ways). And in an amazing final act, mystifying recollections from Origins will surely have you on the edge of your seats before we lower the lights for some D&D-inspired magic.

In Part 2 of our Origins special, we reminisce about our time at Origins and give those that have not been a lay of the land. We also discuss sampling the local cuisine, swimming in dice and witnessing the wonder that is Alex Eding’s shock of blue hair. The show ends with us analyzing a game about dueling wizards (which we did not care for) and being trapped on an island filled with savage penguins (which turns out is actually a lot of fun).
