Bob again met up with Mark in Melbourne where Mark and his wife have lived for 6 years. They shared over coffee about Jewish care and music that calms the hearts of elderly folks. He's a stand-up guy who loves Jewish people and Israel. Not bad for a Gentile.

We finish our interview with Kelvin Crombie from West Australia and his passion and studies in The Holocaust. He tells amazing stories of Jewish people who survived the horrors of that terror and kept or found their faith. And the 7 phases of Hitler's plan to exterminate and rid the world, or at least his world, of Jewish people. Including the Madagascar Plan. I'd never heard of that one!

Kelvin was born and raised on a farm in West Australia but found the meaning of life in Israel in the 1970s. What is that about? He married his girlfriend there and they have four daughters all born in Israel. But now he lives back in WA and has not only his story to tell, but why he keeps writing book after book and what they mean to him. When my grandson began playing on the ground with a painted rainbow last Shabbat, it caught my eye. And then reading about the Stonewall Riots, Harvey Milk, and the Pride of the Gay and Lesbians in NY and San Francisco, it all began to make sense.  They do connect, but the rainbow? That's a sacred image...thou shalt not steal, you know?

Edward Boyd voices great questions as to the merits or waste of time that prayer is, and in this episode, Bob unpacks some of the answers. I love that the whole country of the US was praying for Damar Hamlin and Dan Orlovsky even prayed on national TV on ESPN for him. Crowds gathered in vigils to help the young man recover from that moment on the football field against the Cincinnati Bengals just over a month ago. 

What good is prayer?
Why bother if God knows everything already?

Bob opens up about things new and not-so-new in this episode about Newness. Having just finished reading The Myth of Normal by Gabor Maté,  Bob reflects on the book of Jeremiah/ Lamentations chapter 3, verses 22 and 23, which speaks about newness and God's love.  Maté is a medical doctor, living in Vancouver, Canada. He was born in 1944 in Hungary;  his family is Jewish and they survived the camps of the Holocaust.
