  • 10-20-25 - CHICAGO, TRUMP

During his speech at the "No Kings" rally in Chicago on Saturday, Mayor Brandon Johnson called on Americans to organize a general strike. Chicago has become a focal point of the Trump administration's controversial military takeover of liberal cities. In addition to the raids and arrests of Latinos that were also seen in other cities, Trump's federal agents in Chicago have also been targeting African Americans, triggering chaotic protests but also unity among both groups of victims. Before becoming a politician, Johnson was a social studies teacher in the Chicago public schools system. He was an active member of the Chicago Teachers Union, and helped to organize their strike in 2012. During his speech, he highlighted past ways in which ancestors came together for one common goal, including the creation of the Underground Railroad, led by Harriet Tubman and the rebellion of Nat Turner. He said, "If my ancestors, as slaves, can lead the greatest general strike in the history of this country, taking it to the ultra-rich and big corporations, we can do it too!"

  • 10-15-25 - ICE, IMMIGRATION

On Tuesday, Los Angeles County officials voted to declare a state of emergency that gives them power to provide assistance for residents who have suffered financially from ongoing federal immigration raids. For the past four months, the Trump administration's federal immigration agents, along with the California National guard, have been conducting raids, arrests, and apparently random attacks on the residents of Los Angeles, regardless of their immigration status. Many public events, including Fourth of July celebrations, were been cancelled out of fear of ICE raids. County Supervisors said that funds for rent will be available to people who apply via an online portal that would be launched within two months. Landlord organizations, such as Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles, fearing that the County's decision could lead to a temporary ban, or moratorium, on evictions, such as the one that was enacted for the COVID-19 pandemic. Kathryn Barger, the only Supervisor to vote against the decision, told the media that she's certain the County will be sued.

  • 10-13-25 - TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

ABC News reporter George Stephanopoulos abruptly ended a live interview with Vice President JD Vance when he began talking about unrelated subjects to avoid answering a question about corruption in the Trump administration. In September 2024, Tom Homan, who later became Trump's so-called "border czar" and is in charge of deportations, was being investigated for corruption by the FBI. Homan was recorded taking a bribe from an agent who was posing as a businessman. In the audio recording, Homan promises to use his connections to get government contracts for the supposed business owner in exchange for $50,000. The investigation seemed to have stopped as soon as Trump was elected and Homan was appointed. Administration officials have avoided answering questions about the case in public. During the interview on Sunday, Stephanopoulos asked Vance if Homan had kept the money. Instead of saying no, Vance tried to change the subject. Stephanopoulos said "you refused to answer the question" and abruptly ended the interview, and turned off Vance's microphone while he was speaking.

Eighteen people are dead or missing after a massive explosion destroyed a building at a Tennessee explosives facility on Friday, authorities said. The explosion, which was so powerful that it rattled homes 15 miles away, happened at Accurate Energetic Systems, a company that manufactures military and demolition explosives. On Friday, Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis did not want to declare a death toll yet. But after a thorough search of the area, Davis announced on Saturday that there are almost certainly no survivors. Investigators are working to confirm who was at the facility Friday morning and notifying victims' families, according to a joint release from Hickman and Humphreys County officials Friday night. Davis said, "the explosion was the most devastating scene that I've seen in my career." No authority or agency has announced the cause of the explosion. In the past several months, the Trump administration has attributed any widely-known tragedy to what they call "Antifa," without any evidence. It is likely the administration will attempt to associate the explosion with their political enemies.

  • 10-8-25 TRUMP, NATIONAL GUARD

On Monday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said that President Trump has absolute authority over the National Guard. The Trump administration has been in a legal battle due to Trump's controversial deployment of the National Guard to cities that he claims are so dangerous that he needs to save them, but are more likely just ones that he sees as political enemies, since they are not statistically the most dangerous. Discussing the controversy during a CNN interview, Miller said the phrase, "the President has plenary authority…" and suddenly stopped talking and looked into the camera in silence. "Plenary authority" implies that the president alone has total control of the National Guard. This has only ever been invoked during the Civil War and to enforce racial integration in schools in the South. Miller sat silent for 15 seconds before the producers cut the interview. Many have speculated that Miller, realizing he had said something out loud that he meant to say privately, attempted to fool the audience into thinking that there was a technical glitch. Miller kept blinking during the 15 seconds of silence.

Evidence from a court ruling suggests that President Trump's reason for launching a military occupation of Portland was that he watched footage from the 2020 George Floyd protests and believed they were happening in the present. When federal judge Karen Immergut, who was appointed by Trump, blocked his attempt to activate the Oregon National Guard against protesters, Trump said that she should be ashamed of herself because, according to him, "Portland was burning to the ground." Two weeks ago, when Trump first threatened to send troops to Portland, Oregon's governor, Tina Kotek, told him there was no reason. Trump responded, "Am I watching things on television that are different from what's happening? … They are literally attacking and there are fires all over the place … it looks like terrible." The lawsuit against Trump's action explains, "On September 5, 2025, Fox News aired a report on Portland ICE protests that included misleading clips from Portland protests in 2020. Shortly thereafter, President Trump appeared to reference events in the same misleading Fox News report when speaking to the press."

The Trump administration has announced it will conduct a full investigation of the Portland Police Department after the arrest of a conservative media personality during a protest. This week, the Trump administration began its attack on Portland, a city that it sees as a progressive enemy of the federal government. During a protest against the federal agents arresting people on the streets, conservative journalist Nick Sorter was arrested by the Portland Police Department for fighting with protesters. The details of the fight are unclear, but the Trump administration claims he was defending himself against what they call Antifa. As a result of the arrest, the administration has announced it will launch a full investigation into the Portland Police Department and whether it is secretly aligned with the protesters, an extremely unlikely event that, even if true, would not be a crime. In addition to investigating the Portland Police Department, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that President Trump has directed his administration to take funding from Portland, saying, "We will not fund states that allow anarchy."

On Tuesday in Chicago, federal immigration agents descended from military helicopters onto an apartment complex and arrested 37 people. Although the most dangerous city in the US is currently Memphis, which is in a Trump-supporting state, the administration is carrying out military occupations of liberal cities who Trump refers to as the most dangerous. According to the administration, the purpose of the raid in Chicago was to arrest members of drug cartels, but agents arrested everyone in the area for interrogation. Marlee Sanders, a resident of the building, told the media, "They had the Black people in one van, and the immigrants in another van." Eboni Watson, another resident, said, "The kids was crying. People was screaming. They looked very distraught. I was out there crying when I seen the little girl come around the corner, because they was bringing the kids down, too, had them zip tied to each other. (…) All I kept asking. What is the morality? Where's the human?" Referring to one of the agents, Watson, said, "One of them literally laughed. He was standing right here. He said, 'fuck them kids.'"

In September, countries around the world have seen significant popular uprisings against their governments.

The Trump administration has announced that what they refer to as "Antifa" is now a domestic terrorist organization. During the rise of fascism in the 1920s in Europe, roving groups of protesters, often anarchists and socialists, violently confronted fascist organizers in the streets. Some of these groups called themselves "Antifascist Action." They were associated by their ideology and were not part of a structured network. In response to the rise of fascist politics during Trump's first presidential term, Antifa protesters often attacked fascist events, and as a result were widely accused of attempting to silence free speech, by both Democrats and Republicans. Right wing conspiracy theories accuse Democratic politicians and philanthropists of financing Antifa, even though Antifa protesters have no representative, and no resources besides those that are organized for individual street protests. Critics say that the Trump administration intends to use the label to justify terrorism charges against any leftist group. Statistically, almost all political violence in the US is committed by right wingers.
