Lessons we learned from A Rose for Emily:

-If your parents are overbearing (especially your father) AND you’re a woman in the 1800’s, make sure you have a good back up plan for taking care of yourself in the event of their death(s)…you will almost certainly outlive them!

-Ladies: its ok to date a playboy, but don’t expect him to change for you!  He is very predictable; don’t be surprised when your time is up with him-you knew what you were getting in to.

-Playboys: if you’re going to date lots of women and leave some broken hearts in your wake, do your research!  If you end up in the grasp of a crazy lady, it could be the end of you!

-Lastly, if there is a dead body in your house that alerts the neighbors because of the odor: YOU’VE DONE SOMETHING WRONG! The authorities will be on to you, and you’ll never get away with it!

This week’s chapter/episode is Kim breaking down this “motivational” book. Don’t be too put off by the title- not too many f-bombs in the discussion, but as always, our podcast is intended for adult audiences. Now that’s out of the way…

Lessons we learned from Kim’s book:

-pick your battles wisely; if you use up all your time and energy on the little things, you won’t have anything left for what’s really important to you.

-rejection and fear become less painful when we are not attached to a particular outcome- don’t worry so much about things you cannot control.

-if you can better select (and maybe minimize) how many irons you have in the fire, it will actually give you strength and integrity to be more present and devoted to the projects/relationships you commit yourself to.  Prioritizing what is important to you instead of overextending yourself (being a “people pleaser”) will help you make more meaningful efforts and result in better outcomes and less stress in the long run.

– Dragons love parties, especially if you’re serving tacos!!

-Be careful at your taco party- dragons CANNOT tolerate salsa on their tacos

-If dragons accidentally get salsa on their tacos, fire will be everywhere! But have no fear- dragons are great house guests and if they tear up your house, they will help you with repairs.

Insights from The Guinness Book episode:

-If you’re in a pinch, get out The ole Guinness Book and mix a little world record education with some fun.

– Pink planes are faster.

-D size batteries and a cigarette lighter are required to operate the world’s fastest pink plane.

-German messages in a bottle are the oldest and best preserved.  You should learn German in case you come across one.

-Picking up rubbish on the beach could turn out to be a big pay day! Don’t throw away old cigarettes in a bottle without investigating first- you could be missing the message!

-The Indian Ocean may need to be renamed for pronunciation and political correctness sake. Let’s start a petition…

-Coffee makes you shorter; and the bigger the cup, the smaller you look.

-Should you even bother breaking a world record that you already hold? That’s debatable…

Lessons we’ve learned from What Remains True, a novel by Janis Thomas:

-When you get to be a ghost, definitely give wet willies to those you leave behind so they know you’re there!  You should play any pranks your ghostly mind can come up with at the time!

-Don’t run out in the street without looking both ways!  Beware of speeding cars!

-Don’t blow off your little brother, eventually you’ll be sad you did.

-Inappropriate interactions with your receptionist will have consequences-you should always look before you leap.  The key to a happy life, is a happy wife…and its always cheaper to keep her!

-Therapy is OK! If you or a loved one are experiencing trauma or tragedy, don’t be afraid to seek professional help.

-Maybe a dog narrator is a bit over the top (Maybe).  While we definitely appreciate bringing animation to the narration, baby talk could probably be skipped too.

 

 

Lessons from Fahrenheit 451:

-Books are our friends- we don’t burn books!  They keep us learning and having our own original thoughts.

-Make sure you’re the boss of what input you’re taking in, otherwise…garbage in= garbage out!  If you let someone else in charge of your intake, they will give you what they want you to know every time!

-Its ok to remain curious and question authority respectfully; there is a reason why your thoughts are your own.  Go with your gut!

-If you find yourself going with the flow, it’s never too late to branch out on your own.  Don’t be afraid to reevaluate early and often to make sure you’re on the right track.

-Don’t torch your boss! This will most certainly have repercussions and end up with you running from the law in one way or another…

-Unplug from your earbuds and curl up with a good book from time to time-you may find yourself in a different world!

Things we learned from My Sweet Audrina…

-Don’t let other people make you do creepy stuff:  If your gut tells you its not right, there must be a good reason!

-Toxic people will remain toxic no matter how much you’re pulling for them; you’re better off distancing yourself as soon as you can identify these leaches in your life!

-Don’t marry a man just to get out of your father’s house: One way or another, this always seems to backfire.  You are much better off on your own than to rely on someone else to take care of you.

-Don’t let your Papa (or any other man, for that matter) manipulate, control, or otherwise determine your course of action in life.  You are in charge of YOU, and YOU always have a choice!

-The Best Audrina lives within YOU! She always has, always will.  Take control of your destiny; otherwise someone else will.
