  • Urban League conference 2015
The “Off to the Races” session also featured speeches from Democrats Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley and Republican Ben Carson. The session began with Carson, followed by Clinton, O’Malley and Sanders.
Bush presented himself as someone who’s increased opportunities for African-Americans and said his intentions to overhaul education and dramatically increase economic growth would make things much better in the future.
Hillary Clinton  mocked Bush for his “right to rise” s logan. She didn’t mention him by name, but repeatedly suggested that his positions and record make it a hollow slogan. “I don’t think you can credibly say everyone has a right to rise” if they can’t afford health care, if the minimum wage is too low to live on, if college is unaffordable – and, she emphasized – if someone embraces policies that deny the right to vote.
“My views are a little bit different than others,” he said. “Given the enormous crises that this country faces today – crises that may be more severe than at any other time other than the Great Depression of the 1930s –  frankly it is too late for establishment policies, it is too late establishment politics.” Senate Sanders   Sun Sentinel

  • Tom Brady's Deflategate
National Football League has upheld a four-game suspension of New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady for his role in the football tampering scandal known as "Deflategate," the league announced in a news release Tuesday.
Commissioner Roger Goodell, in affirming the suspension he handed down in May, said new information about the destruction of Brady's cell phone showed the four-time Super Bowl champion "sought to hide evidence of his own participation in the underlying scheme to alter the footballs." CNN

  • Sandra Bland Murder or Suicide
Sandra Bland’s death earlier this month is shining a national spotlight on a small corner of Texas that was already facing an uncomfortable struggle to come to terms with an ugly history of racism. Lynchings were once rampant in Waller County. And as recently as 2004, Mathis’s predecessor was arguing that students at historically black Prairie View A&M University did not have the right to vote locally.WP

  • Donald Trump in Oskaloosa,Iowa
We are disappointed that Mr. Trump's campaign has taken the unusual step of excluding Register reporters from covering his campaign event in Iowa on Saturday because he was displeased with our editorial," she said. "As we previously said, the editorial has no bearing on our news coverage. We work hard to provide Iowans with coverage of all the candidates when they spend time in Iowa, and this is obviously impeding our ability to do so. We hope Mr. Trump's campaign will revisit its decision instead of making punitive decisions because we wrote something critical of him."Amalie Nash, the Register's editor and vice president for audience engagement

  • 2016 Polling Does It Matter
"Election polling is in near crisis, and we pollsters know. Two trends are driving the increasing unreliability of election and other polling in the United States: the growth of cellphones and the decline in people willing to answer surveys. Coupled, they have made high-quality research much more expensive to do, so there is less of it. This has opened the door for less scientifically based, less well-tested techniques. To top it off, a perennial election polling problem, how to identify “likely voters,” has become even thornier." Professor Cliff  Zukin NYT
