This week we have part two of our conversation with Todd Leopold, the highly-regarded and exceptionally-innovate distiller at Leopold Bros. in Denver.  

We taste some more whiskey with Todd and look forward to some changes and new things that are in the works.  We also get much more into music with Todd and how it plays a role in shaping his life and his approach to distilling spirits.

This week we tried something a little different.  Drew and Kevin are joined by Alan Bishop (Distillers' Talk) and Josh Golladay (Ironroot Republic) for what we call "Turntable Roundtable".  We have some open conversations about our pet peeves in the whiskey industry as well as some of the music we are listening to right now.

After launching in 2013, Wilderness Trail has been one of the fastest growing brands in the world.  We have Dr. Pat Heist, co-founder and Chief Science Officer, and Jerod Smith, National Brand Manager, with us on this week's Bourbon Turntable to talk about the success of their whiskey.

We start the show with a blind, side-by-side tasting of Wilderness Trail Wheated Bourbon off a pot still vs. a column still.  This was a great backdrop to discuss the growth and transitions at Wilderness Trail.

We also taste several other offerings from Wilderness Trail during the course of the show.  We get into so much, in fact, that we had to split this show into two parts.  Part two will be released next Wednesday, January 25. 

Part One also includes some initial discussions of music with Dr. Pat and Jerod.  As you may know, Pat is a big music fan and is lead singer of his own band, Zella May.

We start off #BourbonTurntable 2023 with one of our favorites, Jason Brauner.  Jason is co-owner and founder of Buzzard's Roost Sippin' Whiskeys and Bourbons Bistro.  We talk about the great success of Buzzard's Roost and the big plans underway for the new year.  

On Side B of the show, Drew, Kevin and Jason talk about the best front-men in rock music.  There's some consensus here, but there are some notable differences of opinion, too.

We finish the year on another high note with John Pals and Michael Lahalih, founders of Lucky Seven Spirits.  During the show we learn the origins of Lucky Seven, their process for selecting and blending barrels and some of the future plans for the brand.  

We also sample two of their bourbons with JP and Michael: Holiday Toast and The Frenchman.  

The conversation also gets into JP and Michael's love of classic films - and how that led to the name "Lucky Seven".  And, of course, we talk with Michael and JP about their favorite music.  

We were joined by Pat and Mike from My Whiskey Den as we shared our nominees for Whiskey of the Year and announced the ones that came out on top for 2022 for both Drew and Kevin.
