CW: This episode took an unexpected turn and we make references to rape, pedophilia, the Holocaust and the AID's crisis.

Today we decided to tackle a motto we've been spouting since episode one - "stereotypes are not inherently bad". We explain what we mean by this and if in fact we agree with it. We discuss our feelings about which stereotypes we conform to, which ones we've actively tried to avoid and how seeing stereotypical characters in media can make us feel both annoyed but also not alone.

In the second half of the episode, we look into some of the origins of stereotypes which is when our conversation takes a more serious tone. Apologies for venting!

Geeks are defined by the things they love but almost as important, is what we don't like. And for better or for worst, in today's world, it's much easier for our criticisms to be heard by creators.

Does this mean that the way in which we critique should change? And should we critique media from queer and indie creators differently? We also discuss how as creators we try to listen to our own audiences.

NOTE: This episode was recorded before Kai Cole's article was published, detailing the toxic infidelity and gaslighting committed by her ex-husband Joss Whedon.

In today's episode, we say that its Episode 30 a lot when its actually Episode 29. We also catch up and geek out - mostly about recording our first live episode and all about Nine Worlds Geek Fest. Hamish also spills the beans about his time in Latvia!

Also featured: The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, The Adventure Zone Finale (maybe we'll stop talking about it now? Maybe?), Sonic Mania's Fandom Roots, Netflix's Corridor-Fighting Defenders and the definitely-not-Red-Dwarf story of Wolf359. We also preview our upcoming "spin-off" podcast exploits!

It's our first live episode, direct from Nine Worlds Geek Fest! And seeing as we were surrounded all weekend by stunning cosplay, we made it our topic. And to make things even more special, Jade and Hamish (decked out as Taako and Magnus from The Adventure Zone) were joined by gay journalist and fellow podcaster Matt Baume!

We discuss the wide range of what cosplay offers, how our identities as queer people influences our cosplay and how being LGBT can also help us reclaim characters in the name of representation. We also touch on costume-based communities and how cosplay brings nerds together.

Matt's various projects can be found on his website http://www.mattbaume.com/

This week, we indulge Jade a little, as we focus on one of their favourite topics: actual play podcasts (not that Jade's love for them hasn't rubbed off on Hamish).

What are they and why have they grown in popularity to the point where conventions across the world are filled with people cosplaying characters who don't have any canonical design. We also tease an upcoming attempt at this genre from the BNI team!

It's our fourth NoBoxVoxPop - the episodes in which we answer your queer-ies! This week we discuss which is the best McElroy product, how Wonder Woman might pave the way for LGBT superheroes, our hopes for the 13th Doctor and what is our favourite bug!

Science fiction can be used to speculate about distant worlds, comment on our society of today and try and guess about humanity's future - but we're only just starting to boldly go where little media has gone before - LGBT representation.

We look into Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who and see how we fit into "the big three" and then take a look at smaller properties, including Guardians of the Galaxy, Mass Effect, Steven Universe and more!
