  • Ep. 23 - Rocky Horror to Moonlight: Formative Queer Films
In Part 2 of our Pride Month special, your hosts Jade Rose and Hamish Steele take a trip to the movies, looking at the history, present and future of queer cinema and highlight some of our favourites!
From documentaries like Paris is Burning and dramas based on true events like Pride, to comedies like But I'm A Cheerleader and science fiction like San Junipero (we're counting it!), there's more variety in what a queer-focussed film can then many expect.

  • Ep. 22 - NoBoxVoxPop: Pride Edition
Happy Pride everyone! This is Part 1 of a Pride-Special! And we thought we'd celebrate by doing a NoBoxVoxPop - one our Q&A special episodes! And boy howdy did we receive a plethora of queer-ies when we asked for questions to be on a Pride-theme.
COVERED: Philadelphia's New Pride Flag, Asexuality In Pride and On Tv, Allys, Wonder Woman's Pleasure Chat and more! This episode actually is one of our longest, because the submissions were just so good!

  • Ep. 21 - Age of the Geek, Baby
On this show, we talk a lot about LGBTQ+ representation in geeky media - but how are geeks themselves represented? In today’s episode, we’re gonna talk about our favourite nerd characters and some examples of representation we don’t appreciate so much.
We commend some shows for representing the highs and lows of geekdom and deride others (or more accurately, one sitcom in particular) for having a rather narrow view of nerds.

  • Ep. 20 - #RenewSense8
Even before it’s recent cancellation, a discussion about Sense8 would be filled with tears. Netflix’s diverse, unapologetically queer science fiction drama from the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski gave us 2 seasons of heartbreak and life affirmation. In today’s episode, Rose and Steele pay their respects.
We begin by trying (perhaps unsuccessfully) to explain just what Sense8 is about and exactly why it has resonated with it’s queer and nerdy audience. We then run through our favourite moments from Season 1 and 2 before mourning its loss and thinking of ways to make sure shows like Sense8 keep getting commissioned.
Today’s episode is sponsored by GlitterWolf, a 2-piece synth wave band from dystopian Kent. Their debut single, Nite Beast is available in iTunes now. Follow them on Facebook @Glitterwolfsynth

  • E. 19 - CatchUpGeekOut: My Life Is Empty and I Fill It With Media
Rose and Steele are joined for a third and final time by our guest co-host Melissa Trender - and today is our fourth Catch Up Geek Out!
We chat first about Bill Nye Saves the World and how our British childhoods were tragically Nye-lite. As queer people, do we feel validated or insulted by having a cishet white guy explain gender and sexuality to us?
We then meander through our personal Netflix watching, video game playing and podcast listening before realising having a guest in a catch up geek out means we can barely fit everything in!

  • Ep. 18 - Monster Of The Week
This week, Hamish and Jade are once again joined by guest co-host Melissa Trender discuss the spooky, kooky and all-together ooky world of monsters!
We begin with a little monster mash as we discuss our favourite monsters before trying to define what the word means and how they used in media as obstacles, metaphors and more recently, relatable characters.
Monsters are frequently used to represent our fears which unfortunately means they often play the part of the Other. Frequently they’ve pushed sexist or ablest fears. Queer and nerdy people like us have found ourselves rooting for the monster and in recent years creatures like vampires and werewolves have often been the heroes of the narrative in order to represent this.

  • Ep. 17 - We Played This System Before It Was Cool
This week, Hamish and Jade are joined by Melissa Trender, an expert in indie tabletop roleplaying! There’s a lot more you can do at a table with some dice and some friends then Dungeons and Dragons, and we take a look at some.
Indie Games come in a wide variety - from games with more dice then you could ever need to games played in the dark or without a GM. But as well as there being different technical aspects to indie games, there also tends to be a different mindset. The psychology of inhabiting characters and working through aspects of your real life can be its own form of therapy.

  • Ep. 16 - We're Very Theatrical
“Oh, he’s very into his musical theatre” they say about the confirmed bachelor. But how much are the LGBTQ+ community really represented in the art form we’re so closely associated with? In today’s episode, your hosts Jade Rose and Hamish Steele take you on an all-singing, all-dancing tour through our experiences with musical theatre.
We wax lyrical about our first times both seeing and performing in shows, take a brief tour of history of musicals and speculate where the art form is heading.

  • Ep. 15 - NoBoxVoxPop: The Problematic Elements of Problematic
It’s No Box Vox Pop time! In our second Q&A, your hosts Jade Rose and Hamish Steele take on another set of queer-ies from listeners!
But before that, we discuss the recent attempts by award ceremonies to finally acknowledge non-binary actors such as Asia Kate Dale.
We then cast ourselves as the sidekicks of our favourites heroes and become heroes ourselves by working out which Power Ranger we’d be. We also take on more serious topics such as our feelings of self expression and how our identities have affected our friendships. And we finally get to the bottom of why we find the word “problematic” so darn problematic.
