Boy in the Trash Can

#19 - More AF Jobs and Trips Back to the Farm. This episode continues my Air Force career with transitioning to a new job, continuing my academic career, and trips home. There is a poignant story when Mom and I take a road trip.

This episode is dedicated to Jeanne Marie Terwilliger, 1959. While she didn't experience life in this world, I learned she was always part of who Mom was.

#18 - Air Force Supervision & Chicken Head Soup! This episode will explore my experiences at Langley, more time at Pizza Hut, and starting school.  That is a whirlwind to be sure! Being a new supervisor has its challenges, new food experiences and how much college can I test out of?

I’m dedicating this episode to MSgt Tommy Campbell. As the dining facility supervisor, he took me under his wing and gave me an early supervisory position that propelled me further into more leadership positions and I learned a lot from him.

#17 - So Long Nellis - Hello Langley! This week is a day early and I first send my American listeners a hearty Happy Thanksgiving Day and to others, a happy festival holiday according to your national celebrations of thanks! This week’s episode is a little shorter and we’ll be back to normal next week!

This week, we’ll wrap up my time at Nellis AFB as I have re-enlisted and ready to start another four years in an organization that I have found to be rewarding despite the early personal setbacks in my career.   This episode will provide the lay of the land as I go to a regular services squadron as well.

#ST 9 - Penguins and Wine and the Beach! This week’s Short Take finishes up my visits to Australia and this week, of my trip to Melbourne. Featured is Brighton Beach, the Little Penguins, and Yarra Valley Wine Country. This was also the last trip I took before the pandemic hit in November 2019.  From traveling 130,000 to 150,000 miles a year to zero has been a major change in my life. The travel tip is on tipping when outside the United States.

This episode is a little shorter as recognizing everyone is busy this holiday week!

#16 - Robbed at Gunpoint! & A General Visits! Welcome to Episode 16.  This episode marks the 3 month anniversary.  As we continue my time at RED HORSE, and my experience in my new job learning mobility and logistics planning.  I meet a general officer for the first time and learn that I cannot change the oil in my car! Some troubling events at Pizza Hut brought more purple rain.  Seems I was like a magnet to unique, or more appropriately described as life changing events!

Thank you to retired SMSgt John H. Miller, III for being my special guest this week. You know him through last week's podcast and you'll also see, through his words, how truly special he is. In addition to his career in the Air Force, he also is retiring soon from a full career with the US Navy as a contracting officer, culminating a lifetime in public service.

With your help, we can get to 1000 downloads by Thanksgiving. We are close - just over 100 needed!

#15 - Mom Flies! & Tough AF Decision. This episode continues my experienced at my first base. I get some surprise visitors, establish a dairy goat herd name, and become very busy with learning my job in the Air Force, a part time job, and starting my education. While things start off well, a tragic event happens that became an early decision point in the Air Force.

Listener caution: This episode contains content that some may find troubling.

This episode is dedicated to MSgt John H. Miller, III (retired as a SMSgt); who not only became my mentor and supervisor; he was instrumental that shaped my first assignment experience and who showed me that my decision was the right one.

As a footnote, after recording this episode, John and I connected and he will be my guest next week!

#ST 7 - The Land Down Under! Short Takes share travel experiences. This week we are exploring Australia, and specifically, Sydney. Australia is a wonderful country and has some of the friendliest in the world. So much to see and do and of course, the wine country is amazing. Most of all, the koalas are my favorite animals!
