This podcast episode will share with you our live stream on Rappler's Facebook page last April 7 as Boris Joaquin interviews the following young and agile leaders on the topic "Pandemoment: How to turn crisis into transformational opportunities?":
Get to know them well in this first installment while next episode will feature the roundtable discussion as they discuss how pivotal moments and groundbreaking decisions work hand in hand as we move forward and lay the groundwork for recovery post-COVID-19.
We sit down with Carlo Mata, the Managing Director of White & Case Global Operations Center Manila, as he discusses communication across the generations, respect, and diversity in the workplace on this episode of Breakthrough with Boris Joaquin
In this episode, Boris Joaquin had a short but substantial conversation with the Gerry Plana, chief executive for Investors in People here in the Philippines. Gerry shares the standard from Investors in People which emphasizes that leadership is imperative in building high performing organizations. He also shares wisdom to people who are victims of bad leadership.
Since we have been talking about mentoring this season, we cannot avoid and compare it with "coaching". To enlighten us further on what coaching is, we have invited Dr. James Huculak, originally from Canada, but has worked in the Philippines in the area of leadership development for over 40 years. He has been a faculty member at the International Graduate School of Leadership (IGSL) for 30 years, where he teaches leadership coaching. He has been involved in non-directive coaching for over 10 years and has coached leaders from more than 20 different countries. He has an “Associate Certified Coach” certification with the International Coaching Federation.
A good mentor can bridge between individual and organizational needs. A good mentoring program can help employees reach their full potential by pointing out intrinsic rewards—the feeling of doing meaningful work that is connected to their own personal and professional development. In this episode, Boris Joaquin talks to Brain Quebengco, People Strategy Head of QuadX to talk about his mentoring, and even coaching, strategies applied in organizations. Mentoring benefits an organization by improving job satisfaction and retention, and aids in the personal and professional development of the mentee. Moreover, mentors themselves seem to gain just as much.
Most people find themselves in any of these three areas: survival, success, or significance. If you’re like many people, you may be struggling just to keep your head above water. You’re in survival mode. Whether because of circumstances, setbacks, or poor choices, you have to put a tremendous amount of effort into just making it day to day. Very few reach the point of success. But what is success? And once you’ve gotten to a place of stability, then what? What will you live for? Will you serve yourself or others? Will you put all of your energy into success, in trying to get farther ahead than others? Or will you work toward significance? Will you try to make a difference by helping others get ahead?
