The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to amend and modernize Kosciusko’s special events ordinance, which had not seen a major update since 1994.

The original ordinance specifically referenced only the Natchez Trace Festival. To accommodate the city’s expanding events calendar, managed alongside the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership, the updated policy now encompasses all municipal and chamber-sponsored events, including Food Truck Frenzy, the Heart of Mississippi Rodeo, and the Fall Festival.

Mayor Tim Kyle noted that the update ensures that participating vendors register directly through the city or chamber to protect official event organizers and supporters.

6 p.m.

Employees with the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory, including a firearms expert, testified this afternoon. Tracy Weaver’s family members and some of her former coworkers also took the stand.

The state rested its case this afternoon, and court will resume Thursday at 9 a.m., when the defense is expected to begin calling witnesses.

2:15 p.m.

Several witnesses have taken the stand so far today including family members and friends of Bryan and Tracy Weaver, as well as the forensic pathologist who performed Tracy Weaver’s autopsy.

The court is currently in a short recess. Attorneys will resume questioning witnesses when proceedings continue, and we will provide updates as the trial progresses.

10:45 a.m.

Day three of the Bryan Weaver murder trial is underway at the Attala County Courthouse.

Meagan Weaver, the daughter of Bryan and Tracy Weaver, took the stand Wednesday morning. She was questioned by attorneys for both the prosecution and the defense.

Court is currently taking a brief recess. Testimony will continue when proceedings resume.

The City of Kosciusko will close half of the parking lot behind Ivey Mechanical near the Historic Court Square this Friday for a special community Make-A-Wish celebration.

To accommodate setup and breakdown, the parking lot closure will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The main event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will feature jump houses, hot dogs, and hamburgers.

The celebration honors a 4-year-old wish recipient who loves big red trucks and fire trucks. To cap off the festivities, the city is hosting a mini-parade at 12:00 p.m. to ride the young boy around the square.

Community members taking a lunch break are encouraged to head to the square to wave, cheer, and show their support.

The price of gas in Mississippi has jumped an average of almost six cents in the last two days.  AAA says the statewide average is now at $3.69, the highest it’s been since the middle of June.  Despite the increase, the auto club says only two states—Indiana and Texas—have a lower average price.

And if you’re looking to save on a tank of gas, the average price countywide in Leake County is the lowest in Mississippi at $3.50.   According to GasBuddy.com, it’s selling for as little as $3.33 in Carthage.  But the phone app says the lowest price it’s found in this area is actually in Philadelphia, at $3.32, even though the countywide average in Neshoba County is 11 cents higher than Leake.
