Brian interviews Pamela Green. Pamela is a partner with the international law firm of Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP. She is the Head of the Commercial Real Estate and Lending groups at the Firm’s Hamilton office, as well as sitting on the Firm’s National Real Estate Executive. She talks about Inclusionary Zoning, a very controversial policy passed by City of Toronto that will force developers to build 10% and increasing affordable units in new developments in transit areas. Some critics think that the cost of this plan will be significantly higher prices for the rest of us making home ownership for all but the lucky few lottery winners, actually much more expensive.

Brian talks to Matti Siemiatycki. Matti is Associate Professor in the Department of Geography & Planning, and Canada Research Chair in Infrastructure Planning and Finance. We discuss proposed highway 413 versus transit, the growth of the GTA and where we will house everyone, affordable housing, inclusive zoning and city building. Professor Matti Siemiatycki’s research focuses on delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, public-private partnerships, and the effective integration of infrastructure into the fabric of cities.

Brian interviews Kevin Porter. Porter, a firefighter and paramedic by trade, is intent on chasing the dream through his 40s to play in the NHL. Four major events have shaped Porter’s life, for better or worse. The first three — not making a double A minor hockey team, his grandmother dying of cancer, his mother dying in a construction accident — all occurred very suddenly as a teen. The fourth event: a near-death experience while answering a house call for Brampton Fire in 2010. After the accident, at the over-the-hill age of 35, Porter pledged allegiance to hockey, a sport he had abandoned competitively at 17.

Brian interviews Shelley Brown. Shelley, B.A., B.C.L., LL.B., LL.M, is a candidate for the Ontario Liberal Party nomination in York Center. Shelley practiced in Toronto exclusively in employment and related human rights law, with a focus on the legalization of cannabis, with Steinbergs LLP. Shelley also worked for Prudential of America as in-house counsel and Canadian Director of Human Resources where he created the first Ethics Office. Shelley was instrumental in advocating on behalf of and improving the working environment for women, people of color, those in the LGBTQ community and people of varied ethnocultural backgrounds.
