Who else is selling your customer?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is an interesting question, because there's so much that leads up to getting somebody in your world, to having a chance to touch them via advertising or marketing, being able to just get that initial connection.

And then beyond that, having the ability to bring them in as a customer, as a client, as a patient, as a whatever, whatever you're trying to do. If you're looking to bring in new customers, then you got to know the entire thought process that goes into them becoming a customer, and one of the biggest pieces is for them to wrap their mind around what you're offering.

How simple is it for them to understand?

Where do they have to go from the absolute dumbest you can be about the subject that you're trying to get them to learn more about. I don't care if you're selling dog food or whatever, how ignorant do they have to be?

You take them from that spot, all the way to where they need to be in order to purchase and all the things that they need to know throughout that process. And you got to think, who is helping you in that process?

Are there other people, are there other brands, are there other influencers out there?

That just them educating the public helps them to get closer to purchasing from you, you got to consider this because there's a whole lot of helpers out there, that you're not paying that your current customers might be able to tell you, you know, I saw you months ago, but it's because I heard the dog whisperer say this, about having this in dog food that I realized I needed to purchase from you something to that extent, there are influencers out there, online, offline, everywhere.

There are people, somewhere, there are companies somewhere that are promoting an idea that could lead a person and maybe accident. I mean, of course it's accidental in most cases, but they by be promoting an idea that is encouraging people to lead, they're leading them to you in some cases, they may be doing they may be trying to encourage the opposite.

But because they do such a bad job at it, they're pushing customers your way, you've got to know who these people are. And you got to start encouraging people to listen to them, or to pay attention to them or to watch them or to notice them to notice what they're saying, to notice what there might be an influencer or a person promoting another product or another service out there. That's the complete opposite of you, focus on them.

Show them, put them out there, say hey, if you're for that, you're not my customer. You don't show the difference show the absolute difference between you and them. If you could do that, you're doing a lot.

So one of the things I'll give you an example. I'm a I'm a business strategist, so what I do is I work with business owners and executives that are looking to really obtain great goals in their business, they're looking to double and triple their business in a certain period of time.

They're wondering what is the shortest shortest distance to get there and how do they plan for that? And how do they try to overcome all the issues that keep them from getting there?

What I'll do in that case is, a lot of times I will tell people to go download my book,

  • Content Marketing: Should You Curse Or Not?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqZjATOanqQ

Should you drop the curse words or not, yup, that's what we're talkin' bout on todays daily live.

    Transcription

Content Marketing: Should you curse or not?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I wanted to talk about this, this is one of those things that it gets discussed. And people usually have a very strong feeling one way or the other, over whether you should curse or not in your content that you're putting out there.

Today, we talk about content marketing, it's one of the things that I promote quite a bit.

The whole reason why I promote content marketing, what's content marketing, it's putting out content with the hopes of it being used as marketing. To some extent, even this show itself is content marketing.

I encourage other business owners and executives to make sure that their company is taking part in content marketing, especially with all the the relatively inexpensive, social media, relatively inexpensive online advertising that's available right now, there's no reason why you shouldn't be taken advantage of content marketing.

But the real question is why?

The reason why is because it's one of the three pillars that my entire company is built on. And it's about being relationship reliant, if you realize that all business is built off of the concept of the relationship. It's a relationship that your company or that you as a representative of the company has, with the client, with the customer with the end person that you're trying to get in touch with.

That's all that matters, is that relationship, and how they relate back with you and how they believe you would relate with them. Whether you actually know them or not, doesn't matter.

You know, Rush Limbaugh died about a month ago or so here, something like that. He had millions upon millions of listeners, I had people in my family that had listened to him, that felt that they knew who he was because they listened to him on a daily basis.

He was on, I believe, for three hours a day, Monday through Friday, for years and years and years. That builds a relationship.

Now that doesn't mean he met any of those people. But they all felt like they knew him. That's the relationship. That's what comes from content marketing.

If you're putting yourself out there, for better or worse, you know, controversial figure rush limbaugh, I'm not getting into that. All I'm saying is, that's an example of somebody that had a relationship with his viewers, with his listeners with the people that followed him.

You can have it to the end, you don't even need to have a back and forth relationship. It helps if there's a back and forth, but it's all about that.

And you say, well, what's all this have to do with cursing? I got on here to figure out whether I should curse or not on my videos, Brian? Well, I'll tell you what it has to do with it. Because it all comes back to that relationship. The real question is, do you think it will solidify your relationship with your clients, if you curse more, maybe it's because you curse more in real life.

Honestly, that's a way of being genuine. And if you wouldn't hold it back, if you were sitting in front of them personally, you shouldn't hold it back. When you're doing it online.

On the other hand, if you would hold it back, or if you would be a little bit more careful about when you curse, then you should do that. Also,

The Encyclopedia of Old Time Radio and some thoughts on the old Disney radio show, The Mickey Mouse Theater Of The Air.

    Transcription

Historical proof that content marketing works.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today, I have a nice, thick history book here. It's really an encyclopedia, I think I've had this, I've shown this on the show before, I've got weird things that I like. And one of the weird things that I like are old radio shows, you could see the old replica, old time radio behind me and I love old radio shows as the Encyclopedia of old time radio.

I like them because they were from a time previous to television that is almost completely forgotten. In American psyche, even though it fully enveloped the entire country, it was the first form of mass media.

And so many of the things that we deal with today, had their start in radio, or were affected greatly by radio and I can go on and on and on about that. But one thing in particular, and this was something I had completely forgotten about.

It until just recently came across the fact that this thing existed. And it was a radio show, that was on for barely five months. Okay, back in 1938, and it was called, The Mickey Mouse Theater Of The Air.

You're wondering what this has to do with anything. Now hope we do on this show, is we talk about business. And we talk about modern day business and how it plays into principles.

We talked about the strategies that you can use, and we talk about tactics that you can use. So up until now, actually for the past six or so videos, we've been talking about how to do YouTube.

Well, I'm going to take it back a bit. And I'm going to tell you the reason one of the main reasons why you want to use content marketing, content marketing is not new to the internet.

Content Marketing is as old as the hills. As my grandpa used to say this. He didn't say that about content marketing, he just said old as the hills, it was a phrase.

So this is one of those things that Walt Disney was a brilliant content marketer, excuse me, he used to always use any form of media possible to promote his art form, which wasn't necessarily his direct art form. It was the art that he was producing. He had all the great artists working for him.

And they produced these amazing things. And one of the things he was most passionate about were his upcoming movies. So his first big feature length film was Snow White, and the Seven Dwarves it came out in 1937. In December of 1937, in January of 1938, he had this radio show, Mickey Mouse theater on the air, okay, or of the air.

And the whole thing was music and a little bit of talking back and forth between the cartoon voices. I mean, it's a cartoon for crying out Mickey Mouse was just cartoon characters, that at that time, you know, television was not mainstream. That time you saw these characters on the movie screen.

Mickey Mouse was a huge phenomena. This is 10 years after he was in existence, it came out in 1928 really took off quick, became worldwide known worldwide. So this is 1938 10 years later, he's got his own radio show.

It's not all centered around Mickey and the gang, although they're there. They're you know, you're you hear their voices. You can picture this cartoon mouse and cartoon dog and cartoon duck sitting there talking about things.

But the whole point of this show was to promote Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Look back at Brian's video - Self Reliance Is Fake

Boost Your YouTube, Tip Number 5.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

When I'm holding up here is currently my most watched video on YouTube. It is nearly two years old. It was back when I was in the orange office, you can if you go far back enough and watch the old, old episodes, you can see those taken in the orange office, I'm sitting there with my son, Lucas.

You can go back and watch this video, the name of the video is, Self Reliance Is Fake.

It's not a great video. But there's something about it, what gets people to click on videos. And there's a there's a few things here that I can point to. This is an odd one, I'm going to go through all the details of why I think this one has gotten through.

It's probably not what you think, first off, the title I have on this self reliance is fake. Now, it's not that I'm tying, that I'm tearing down the concept of self reliance.

But I'm being very specific, I'm using a very provocative title to pull people in so that I can go about up about talking about self reliance and how there's really a great misconception over what the term means.

That's what I'm really talking about there. But that saying that something is fake, especially two years ago, that was really still a very hot term, really made popular by the president of that time.

It was one of those things that everyone was tossing around, is this fake? Is this real is this fake, fake news, all that type of thing. And so I played along with that, and calling in calling self reliance is fake. It's also self reliance is one of those things, especially in America, in the United States of America, where we don't oftentimes tear down that term, it's it has very positive connotations within America in general, and I wasn't tearing it down.

But at the same end, I was playing with the emotions there with that title, you can have a provocative title, something that is counterintuitive, or something that says well, I wonder why he or she thinks that.

If you can have a title like that, a headline like that, it'll pull people in, whether it be a video on YouTube, or an article somewhere or a blog post, it's the same thing that headline can truly pull people in.

Now this cover image, there's nothing special about it, there's nothing written on it. The one thing that's a little different from my other videos is I've got my little kid sitting there. And he's a little he's a little under the age of one there actually, he's he's hardly more than a few months old there.

He was a little guy, even for his age use very much what we used to call peanut. He's just a little tiny guy. And he's sitting there making noises as I'm as I'm talking. And I'm comparing the situation with being a parent versus being a child in how self reliance plays into that. So that's kind of why he was there.

It was also one of the situations where I was just trying something different in my videos by having one of my kids with me, which I've have numerous videos where kids and with me, but for some reason, this one hit a chord. The interesting thing about this one, it did not take off right away.

This took probably a good year before I started seeing play off of it, and then all of a sudden started getting a few comments.

    Boost Your YouTube. Tip 4.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today I'm continuing this conversation about how to boost your YouTube. It's a very tactical conversation. It isn't very deep. We're just dealing with my thoughts, complete guesses in some cases and other cases having to do with human psychology and what I've seen on my own.

From trying to, well, not trying, really just putting my material out there and seeing what happens. I haven't tried hard to get a YouTube audience and so I don't have enormous amounts of views.

But from some of my top videos, I'm kind of reviewing them and talking about what I think why they've done so well.

Here's one of them. This was one of my first breakout ones. This one came out and this is all about the very first In n Out Burger in Oregon, which was in Medford, Oregon, I was there the day of the opening.

I was there with my son Tyler, this was over five years ago. Okay, we were there I was there and also with a Podcast Producer Sean Douglas was there with us as well.

So if you want to see a good old piece of history of the Brian J. Pombo, you can go check that out. It is one of, I believe it is the second highest currently the second highest viewed video on my entire YouTube, one of the main reasons is the age.

It's been around the longest, this is before I started doing daily videos before I started doing a whole lot of my business strategy through this channel.

So this one has nothing to do with business strategy.

We do cover a little bit of business issues in there just because it's the thing of interest to me about in and out, it's still very interesting topic. This was the very first one they put up it was in Medford is that after that they have a second one here in Grants Pass Oregon. These are all on the south end side of Oregon.

There are other ones that are going to be built. But so far, these are the only two and I was their present at this day. There's a couple other reasons why this one does well. Number one, it was newsworthy.

During that time people were searching, In-n-Out Oregon, In-n-Out Medford, Oregon. And I've got that right in the title of this video.

The title is in and out Medford Oregon, first In and Out Burger in Oregon is that is the title for the actual video itself. So when people were looking for that this popped up, I had a nice bright cover on it, which is one of the things that I I wish I could do more if I was really looking to get a lot of attention on YouTube, I'd have much more bright, outrageous covers to get attention.

The cover is the is the thing that you click on when you get into when you get into your YouTube video. So this is the solid image that's sitting there. So I do a lot more of this if I was interested. In fact, the whole style that I picked up was built off of some very viral videos from that time that I liked. I liked the font and everything else.

So I kind of went for that and if you're looking at a big list of things about the first in and out in Medford, you're going to see news stories and all these other and then this bright yellow red thing kind of pops out.

Look back at Brian's video - 5 Excruciating Steps to Become A Business Strategist

    Boost Your YouTube: Tip 3.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I have my whiteboard here with a whole bunch of numbers that have nothing to do with anything. In fact, I don't remember what these are reference to, you have to go back and watch my videos. I haven't erased it yet, but this has something to do with today's YouTube tip.

Regarding this is, let me see this. I think there's my top three highest viewed video currently in 2021. And the title of this video is, 5 Excruciating Steps to Become a Business Strategist.

So this was from last year or close to a year ago, I don't have the exact date in front of me. It just says one year when it comes to YouTube, sometimes that can be fudged a little and the picture has me with a whiteboard.

One thing I have noticed, which is odd. And it's also funny that I haven't tried it out more often is, if I have a whiteboard on the YouTube cover with something written on it, I tend to get more views on those.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, I don't know if it draws people in, I really am not certain if that's true or not.

One thing I am certain of is videos with numbers in them tend to pull people in, especially if the number signifies something interesting to the people that are viewing.

So if it's a topic and I number it, and I have the actual digit in the title that does pull people in, that is a and it's not just with YouTube videos. That's very common with articles, if you're doing blog articles, anything and that goes back into the something having to do with the human psyche. I think I've read about it in the past.

But it's very known to anybody that writes headlines, and does copywriting. That if you put numbers somewhere in the title, it pulls it draws the attention and pulls people in because they want to say, well, what is that?

    What does this number signify?

It automatically pulls out the mathematical side or what have you. And you're going okay, what five, you know, and it's called 5 Excruciating Steps, I purposefully used an awkward word in there, that kind of forces a person to have to read it and it's not a common word.

It's all in reference to being a business strategist, which really doesn't have that much pool in general. And so I was surprised by how well this one did I base it mainly off of the number, there might be something else in it, that is pulling people in this is one of the ones that a lot of my earlier videos, I made sure they all had captions in them, the closed caption for the hearing impaired or what have you.

Or if people just like to read along, it has the captions captions can pull in search unto themselves, because it is included somewhere within the algorithm. Every all the words that you speak yes, YouTube is listening to you whether you have captions or not.

But if you have captions installed it, it will be listening to what's been typed out. So if you've had it transcribed, your video transcribed, and you put it out there, and you made sure that it's actually worded correctly,

YouTube will catch some of the things you're saying and they will become searchable. I have seen this done through time. So I know what's the case,

    Boost Your YouTube: Tip 2.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm holding here, my wife's old iPhone and it's got a picture of the screen cap from us the first video in a series of videos that I did. This is the Undercover Billionaire Secrets, number 1.

There was it was a series of videos that I did. And there's a reason why this is the fifth most most watched video on my channel right now.

Here's the reason number one, it fits tip number one from yesterday that we talked about, which was newsworthy, okay, this is a show that's on TV on the Discovery Channel that's very popular called, Undercover Billionaire.

In fact, they came out with a second season and when they came out with that second season, I saw an uptick on these videos. And all it is me just giving, what I saw is the strategic lessons from the show that a person can use in their business.

But I use the title as a way to bring people in and to be able to discuss the lessons on the show. So this brought him in for sure, based off that. But here's another extra tip of reason why this does well, it's part of a playlist.

Playlists, is when you take a bunch of videos on YouTube and you string them all together, and they don't all have to be your video, they can be other people's videos too.

You string them all together, and you put them in whatever order you want and you give them a title. That playlist has the ability to be found via YouTube search engine, the well YouTube search, and also Google search.

It has the ability to stand on its own. I have some playlists that do much better than my even my own videos, because I've gotten other people's videos in there and so it's an interesting thing.

It just me experimenting and playing around with it to see what happens. So that's what this is. This is a series of videos all placed together, the first one gets the most hits, as you would imagine any playlist usually the first video is going to get most of the attention, especially if that playlist gets any play whatsoever.

If you've got that playlist, you got to make sure it's set to public so that everybody can see the playlist. And of course, you can have private ones for yourself. But that's the second tip for how to boost your YouTube. This is a series that I'm doing itself.

In fact, you might be watching this on a playlist. Okay, this is a playlist of YouTube tips on how you can be able to to grow with YouTube.

It's not that I'm saying you should grow with YouTube or that you should use YouTube at all in terms of business. But this is a business growth show. And we talk about how to use each of these things both tactically and strategically.

If you want more of a broader vision, make sure and subscribe and come back on a regular basis and watch this or you could check out back episodes over at BrianJPombo.com. And while you're at it, you really want to get a full vision for making a really major change in your business.

    Boost Your YouTube: Tip 1.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today we're going to be discussing how to boost your YouTube views. And this is part of a series, this is the first one out of the series. What I'm holding here is my wife's old iPhone that happens to have a picture of my sixth, my currently sixth most popular video on this channel. We've been doing this show…almost 700 episodes, are well over 600 episodes that we've put out.

And during that time, along with a handful of videos from years past, I've kind of accumulated a handful of videos that have stood out and have gotten some attention.

This particular one is kind of interesting and I've got a link in the description to this one.

This is called, Dan Kennedy the life changer.

So why would this one be the sixth most popular one on my site? And I'm not by far no, in no means a huge numbers. I'm we're not talking about that you go and look at the popularity on YouTube at this point. It's not very high.

But in comparison to all the other videos that I have out there, it's relatively higher.

So what would make this one roll? It's not that far, it's not that tough to really see why this one has done well. Because it doesn't do as well now as it did when it first came out.

So a couple and I forgot to look at the date. So this was a year ago. So last year, there was a situation where Dan Kennedy was thought to be on his final days, okay, he was being put into hospice, he had gone into diabetic shock and all this stuff, people thought he was going to die.

Many people had already speculated that they thought he was already dead. And this was just, it was probably within the 24 hour period just after this broke that I put out this video because it hit me really hard.

I put a very impassioned basically testimonial to Dan Kennedy and his life and how it has it had touched me you can go and watch it. It's but it doesn't matter as much now because Dan Kennedy survived, ended up getting out of hospice and and has gone on and he's slowly worked his way back to health.

But this was well over a year ago, close to two years ago, I think. Because you can see I'm still in the the orange office. And for those of you who are old viewers, you remember the orange office. And we have been there for a while. This was a this was a fun video to make. But I'll tell you why it did so well.

Why did so well is this was fresh news and I was one of the first ones to start talking about it out there. So when it started hitting people were doing searches.

They were doing searches for Dan Kennedy on YouTube, they were doing searches for Dan Kennedy, is he still alive? And I think the fact that I call it life changer accidentally, I think the life word is pulling some rank, because people were wondering whether he's alive or whether he's dead, and is he still alive, and so on, so forth.

That happened for really the next six months. But right away, got a huge bump in views on that one video. And because of that, it continues to get views over time. Every month, it gets a handful of views and so that's why that one did so well.

So if you're able to take that idea,

Want to go viral on YouTube?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I've got a few things to say about going viral on YouTube. And this is really the introductory video to a series of videos that I'm going to be doing all on my experiences with YouTube.

So I do not make videos with the intention of getting bought going viral, or even getting 1000s upon 1000s of views is not really what I'm after or millions of views. Hey, I'll take it if it comes but it's not what I'm going for.

The crowd that I'm going after tends to be business owners and executives of medium sized to larger companies. And so it tends to be kind of the group I I focus on, and the type of information I like to disseminate and everything else here.

So going viral on YouTube doesn't mean a whole lot when you're doing something of that sort, especially with the rest of the plan that follows this podcast.

So what you're watching or listening to right now is a podcast, it's put out the audio was put out via the typical places that you listen to podcasts. So Brian J. Pombo Live, and the video is put out on typical places for videos, you've got YouTube, you've got a whole bunch of the other video sites and social media.

And so you're watching this somewhere there, or you're listening to it somewhere out there. And that's how I reach most of my people. And even beyond that, the blog that I put out at BrianJPombo.com, tends to be the main place where I'm trying to drive people or trying to get attention to.

And if all else fails, really, I'm trying to promote whatever I'm trying to promote that day.

So today, what I'm promoting my book, it's, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business. If you're looking to be able to really beat out the competition and stand out in your marketplace like nobody else possibly can, then you're going to need this book.

Honestly, you can go and buy it on Amazon if you want. If you want a nice hard copy, it's a hard bound copy. Or you can go to AmazonProofBook.com and get a free copy. You see, I promote that book or something else, nearly every single podcast that I put out.

So I'm always doing something of that sort. I don't need huge crowds. When I'm looking for a very particular type of people to watch this and engage in some some fashion, go to the website, leave a comment, have a little conversation back and forth, or go check out the book, which allows me to engage further with people.

So getting on to YouTube and going viral, you really have to ask yourself whether that's something you really want to do or not.

Are you just looking to become popular? Are you just looking to be a flash in the pan? Are you just looking to make an income off of YouTube?

These are all things questions you have to ask yourself and I I mentioned the movie Fake Famous that just recently came out over on HBO, that's worth watching. Because it kind of get it. It asks those questions without asking those questions.

A super shortcut to getting what you want.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is an idea that I talk about a lot. And I like to put a finer point when the times come, you know. Earlier today, I was speaking with a group of people that are politically active here locally.

There's a million things that a person can react to, regardless of which side of the aisle you're on, or how you view politics. There's always things demanding a reaction, right?

There's always someone from your opposite thoughts that are putting things out there to get a reaction to get you fired up, and overreacted, what they're doing it all sides do it.

But the real thing is to catch yourself from getting caught up with it. And the way I help people, whether they're business owners, or whether they're politicians or political activists or whoever if you really want to know how to how to get to what you want as quickly as possible, first you got to define it.

Your ideal has to be defined your the visible ideal in terms of what would I really like to happen that I can I can realistically see happening, or even unrealistically see happening, but you believe that it can happen?

What is that one thing that you can you can see happening eventually?

So putting that out there and then looking at, you know, how soon do you want to get there?

You know, what would be really good, in-terms of you getting there to that ideal?

What point do you want to get there?

If you don't have that, yet, you're always going to be stuck in reaction mode, you're always going to be reacting to the other side. And if you're building a business, you're reacting to everything around you.

If you're working in politics, you're reacting to the other side, guaranteed, and reacting to all the day's news and so forth. It'll never work, you'll never be able to get what you want. Because you're you're spending too much time reacting to everything else that's occurring.

But if you know what you want, if it's well defined, and you have an idea of when of how soon you'd like to get there, then the next thing is, what can I do right now to fix it?

What can I do right now to take one more step in that direction, a positive step, regardless of everything else that's going on. And that's why I love this book, the one thing, because the one thing, it all pulls you back to focusing on doing one thing at a time.

This is really opposite from or on face value. It's opposite from the way a lot of people teach. So one of the things that Dan Kennedy who I've spoken about before, who's a marketing, guru, and expert out there, he has spoken about how you really want massive action, you want multiple things happening all at the same time. And that's absolutely true.

But to get yourself out of the gutter, and to get yourself focused on moving forward, sometimes you have to start with one thing at a time. Once you get one thing going and you have it systemized you have it, you have someone else working on it, or you have it automated via software or whatever.

Once you have one thing taken care of where it can run on its own, then you work on the next thing and the next thing and the next thing, but it does have to start with one thing.
