Who is your competition beyond your industry?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Were recorded live on a daily basis and then spread out to you over time.

So here we are and I'm going to be doing interviews right here.

So stay tuned to this channel, podcast, wherever you're at. Some of you are watching, some of you are listening, it doesn't matter, we're going to get you some good stuff here real soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to hit on this one topic because it's one of those things I learned, oh, probably almost 10 years ago.

Now, when I heard, I think it was Dan Kennedy that I originally heard say this. And he was saying, you know, your competition isn't just in your industry.

So if you're a business owner, or an executive and you run, you basically run your business, you run the business, you're the one in charge, you probably spend a lot of time thinking about competition.

Oftentimes it's people that are in your industry or in your specific area of your industry are the people that seem to be competing the most directly for clients and customers.

You really ought to be thinking beyond that. It's one of the main things of why I think competition is it's a misnomer, on a lot of ways. I talk about all in my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business, because it's all about overcoming competition.

But a big part of is overcoming the mentality of competition, that competition actually exists and so go get yourself a copy of this.

It's a short book, easy to read AmazonProofBook.com, you get your own free copy. And you can also buy a physical copy, if you want to go to Amazon or if you go to AmazonProofBook.com and get the get the download for the copy, it'll give you the option for a discounted physical copy along with the audio book.

    So that's coming up soon.

Let's talk about what competition is not though.

What competition? Well, let me rephrase that.

Let's talk about, well, what if you're actually thinking of competition, how you really ought to be thinking about that in a broader sense.

Because if you think you're competing, just for dollars, that's a small piece of it, that's, that's way down the line before you ever get $1 from, from your prospective customers, you got to think about the attention that you're getting.

The competition for attention is endless. It never ends. And it goes far beyond your industry, when you're competing for attention.

You're not just competing against other people in your industry are other people that talk like you or think like you, or advertise like you or market like you. You're not just competing against them.

You're competing against everything else that's on YouTube.

Everything else that's on the internet, you're competing against their family time, you're competing against the work that they're supposed to be doing right now, you're competing against, I mean, everything, everything in their life, is pulling them away, from paying attention to you, and your message.

If you think about that, that's rather daunting. Because there's more if you just think about yourself,

  • Another Clue You Might Be Ready for Information Marketing

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBMrkTk_kls

The value of information marketing and knowing when it's time to test it out for your company.

    Transcription

Another clue you might be ready for information marketing.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I want to talk about information marketing, because it's a whole lot of what it is that I work with my clients on. And it's a whole lot of what I do.

So it's one of those things that I just see more and more and more needed. With most businesses, especially businesses that already have a lot of traffic, a lot of deal flow happening, a lot of people that you're getting in front of already. You're getting in front of ideal clients to begin with, if you're in that type of position where you're already in the mix.

The next big step, and I'll tell you why this came up the next big steps information marketing.

Let's get into that in a second. The reason why this came up because I was working with a client of mine, and she was discussing that, well, she wasn't discussing, we were in a webinar with a bunch of potential customers.

A lot of people that she is known people who have been customers in the past along with people who are potential customers, and people at all different levels. The one thing we were getting back was a whole lot of questions, very common questions, the type of questions that take you in a whole different direction.

You can tell they are applying to try and see if they can do some of the work that her and her company does themselves. They're seeing if they can plug in some of these ideas if they could milk her for ideas and be able to move forward.

Now if you're in a position where you're doing a heavy service, or you're doing something of an expert level, for people, the instant reaction is to be offended, and say, why don't you just pay me to do it, you know, and to kind of have that kind of attitude about it.

Or say, hey, you could try it yourself but you're going to fail type of thing. You have to look in a slightly different direction, if you're getting a lot of questions like that.

That's the type of field that you're in or they're the type of questions that don't have anything to do with what you're doing. That's also another thing that can really clue you into the fact that you need information marketing.

Here's why, if someone's asking you for all those things chances are, if they don't get it from you, they're going to get it from somebody else.

In the long run what matters most is your relationship with them over time. It's not how much money you're making off of them today or how much money you made off of them up till now.

It's how much money you're going to be making off of them over a lifetime. If you're just talking dollars and cents, that's what it comes down to and the way you increase that is you increase trust.

The way you increase trust, is by increasing the amount of time that you have with them, and the amount of expertise that they view you as having. A big piece of doing that is having information marketing.

So you know one of the initial pieces, I don't have a huge information marketing offering from BrianJPombo.com quite yet, we've got a lot of plans in the future that we're going to be developing.

We have a whole lot of stuff that you can get out there information that I'm putting out there for free, and to kind of flood the market and get get the word out.

  • Authentic Enthusiasm

    Authentic enthusiasm.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I heard a phrase while I was listening to a podcast, it doesn't matter what podcast it was.

They mentioned something that just set me off, it was an hour get these ideas for things for us to talk about. I keep them all in a list on my phone on the notepad on my phone.

And so this was one that I just love the phrase authentic enthusiasm, because it brings up a whole lot of ideas for me, and something that I think would be useful to you, especially if you're a business owner or executive that is looking to get out there and promote your products or services via content marketing.

In that process, most of us don't have any training in terms of how do we communicate with people, right? How do we be ourselves, yet still be interesting, right?

How do we stay interesting. And it really comes from enthusiasm.

What's enthusiasm? Enthusiasm, I think it means something, originally, the original term mean something of being, you know, being with God or having God within or the Spirit of God or something of that sort. And so it's, for me, it means spirited, really more that a lot of times it's used in conjunction with excitement.

I think excitement is something different. I'm not a very excitable person, I don't think people should get too excited about things. I think it normally takes you off base, and get you all emotional and set up for the next fall, usually, but enthusiasm is something different.

I take the word to mean something else. enthusiasm for me, is all about being spirited.

It's about having a booth about something, right. It's tough to put into words, but it's about having, you know, some gravitas about a situation that's being enthusiastic about something, or enthusiastic about just being alive just in making a presentation.

    Communicating an idea.

That's why I think of enthusiasm. And so authentic enthusiasm is tough. But it shouldn't be right. If you are initially energized about what you're talking about, then all you really have to do is be authentic, be yourself without putting on a whole lot of layers without trying to be somebody else, or be like somebody else.

    But at the same time.

So you're trying to project an idea.

But you got to be you, you got to be comfortable with being you authentic. When it comes to content marketing. It's not something that I think can be taught. I've never seen anyone that was able to teach authenticity.

It can be achieved through practice, though. It's achieved through doing it enough times that you just start letting go. Of all the extra stuff that isn't you.

I don't know if I'm there yet, honestly. But I know I'm further along than I was when I first started doing a lot of content marketing.

Just since we've been doing these daily conversations, you could go back and watch my original ones. It's very different. I don't like to watch them.

But they're very different in the fact that I I'm getting better and better at just being myself, but at the same time, attempting to remain enthusiastic and to show my enthusiasm over these ideas and concepts that have changed my life.

I'm hoping they'll be able to change yours. So that's what authentic enthusiasm is to be.

  • What Offer Have You Made On Facebook Today?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ7xxfapS9Y

Are you making offers on platforms that your ideal prospects hangout on?

    Transcription

What offer have you made on Facebook today?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

    Why such a specific question?

The question is specific because I wanted a specific answer. In most cases, I'm willing to bet that you didn't make an offer on Facebook today.

Why do I pick out Facebook?

Facebook's just one example. You've got all the different social media platforms out there. Chances are your market, the people you're trying to sell your products services, your vision to they're on Facebook, chances are they are they really are.

Because if there's enough age groups there, then there's enough of all of them there.

And you can find out who they are pretty simply by going through their ad platform. Even if you don't buy any ads, you can do a search and find out what type of people reside on Facebook and chances are they're there.

This isn't a pitch for Facebook, I'm saying what ever. The platform is I'm using Facebook as an example. But you've got all these platforms out there that you can be offering commercials for free out there.

This is without sending a advertising out you just throwing it out there. Even if there's not a whole lot of focus as to who's actually seeing it and everything else.

Did you make an offer on Facebook today?

And you say, well, Brian, did you make an offer on Facebook tonight?

Why did I do it every day. Very rarely do I have a video that's right here where I am not making an offer. In every podcast that I put out. Every audio podcast I put out not just for Brian J. Pombo Live that you're either watching or listening to right now.

But my other two podcasts that are currently up, Grants Pass VIP and The Off The Grid Biz Podcast, both of those have advertisements on every one, I'm making at least one offer per podcast. And those are up 24/7 on each of their networks.

Along with being posted over on Facebook along with being posted on all the other major social media companies and a lot of minor ones.

With a lot of the emerging ones, we're always testing them out and putting things out there.

And with great thanks and help from the person that makes it all happen, which is my podcast producer Sean E Douglas, an amazing person.

But this is all about making the offer the simplest concept, it's just making that initial connection and offering something for something else.

All I'm offering right now is a free book, a free book with that free book. See, I'll tell you how this works. I offer this free book it's my, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

In fact, chapter six is all about making the offer, right?

So you can get this book, you can get a digital copy for free at AmazonProofBook.com.

Now how does that help me it is an offer is not an offer for money. It's an offer for an email address, you go you give me your email address, and I will give you a chance to do well I'll give you the book.

And I'll give you a chance for a couple other things. When I get I'm also going to make you an offer. After after you get the digital version, I'm going to make you an offer for a physical version, along with the physical version is going to come an audio version,

  • WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqgfq793ShY

Thoughts on a Hulu exclusive documentary about a coworking office space company called, WeWork.

    Transcription

Business movie, WeWork: Or the making and breaking of a $47 billion unicorn.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Got to talk a little bit about this movie that can only be found currently on Hulu. Hopefully, they'll open it up a little bit after that, so that other people can see it. But if you have Hulu, you have the chance to be able to watch it at least for now.

Good documentary, interesting documentary, there's pieces of it I like, pieces of it I don't, I'm not going to completely ruin the idea for you wework is still functional company.

It is a company that is built off of coworking and what coworking is if you're not familiar with it, is you can purchase in some way the ability to be able to use a certain space for an office space.

So you can use the Wi Fi that's available the internet, you can use everything else that the office has contained in it. And in some cases, on at least at the very lower ends, you can share a room with multiple other people, like you're at a coffee shop or something and be able to sit there and do whatever you need to do and but also, the thing about wework is they encourage you to be able to talk with the other people around you.

And they made everything very fancy. And they made everything very modern and comfortable. Trying to shirk away the whole idea of a corporate office space and making it more social, making it more about the relationship, which I'm always been interested in, I've actually always been interested in the coworking concept.

Because unlike a lot of entrepreneurs, there's a lot within like the direct marketing space, that really poopoo any type of working out of a cafe, I like working out of a cafe.

I'm a social creature, I like being around people.

I don't love people, but I like being around it. I like the energy that happens in a in an active cafe and being able to sit there if I don't have stuff that I have to do recording of or I don't have to do any type of meetings, then I would love to be able to do a lot of my work out of a cafe or out of a social arena.

So the concept of we work has always interested me, although I've never taken the dive with any of these companies that offer coworking spaces I've attempted to a few times but never fully gone with it. I love the idea of being able to rent low term office space so that you don't have to have it that whole time being able to split the amount that you can.

You need to spend it's a great idea and it goes along with the third pillar at BrianJPombo.com, which is being relationship reliant, relationship reliant.

All of business is relationship reliant, because all a business has to do with people, and has to do with knowing the right people and having the right people know you. So that's where that all comes in.

So I love the concept that the business was built off of now it's built off of a very charismatic character, and that's what this movie is about.

It really the movie does its best, I'm not going to ruin it too much for you. But it does its best right off the bat to attempt to paint this person as a villain. And while there were definitely miss major missteps made with this business, which is a great.

The thing I love about this movie, or this the at least the story behind the movie is that it's one of those that you want to sit with other b...

  • The Success System That Never Fails: Business Book Review

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZRmMIZRkXg

Thoughts on W. Clement Stone's classic, The Success System That Never Fails.

    Transcription

    Success system that never fails.

    A business book review.

Welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live, I'm Brian Pombo.

And today I'm going to be talking about this book, The Success System That Never Fails.

It says my first time reading this all the way through, I've caught sections of it throughout time, and I've heard a lot of people talk about it. It's one of those that is up there and held next to, Think and Grow Rich quite a bit.

Because W. Clement Stone is one of the ones that helped promote Napoleon Hill, more than anybody else. Since, I believe the 1950s is when he and Hill started teaming up, they wrote a book together, and he did a lot to make him basically the superstar that he is today, even though he had a lot of success with thinking Grow Rich years previous.

But he was able to really bring him into the final decades of his life. And W. Clement Stone then wrote this book on basically on his own, and kind of took some of Hill's ideas and simplified them.

But also added to them that concept of system, which we talk a lot about on here, about being system based, is one of the main three pillars of my company, BrianJPombo.com. System base is what it's all about and it's a huge piece of this book is about having something that functions while you're not there, even though he doesn't go far into depth as to the reasons why or all the benefits of it.

He does show in autobiographical form, how he has been able to build up a sale system over time. So this was built, this was a this book came out in the 60s.

I really like it, I like the style of it, because it's very simply written, it's in a very simple matter. It's not as flowery, or love, very poetic, like Napoleon Hill likes to go off, it's very straight to the point and gives really good quotes.

I wish I had a few of the quotes with me, I read this one on my phone. And I'm going to tell you how I read this because I think it might, it might help you. If you decide to go and read this book. And you don't want to purchase a physical book.

Actually, I'm going to get a physical version of it. That's how much I enjoyed it, it's is one I'd like to go back to over and over again, lots of great quotes. I went through and highlighted a whole bunch on my Kindle app on my phone.

    And so

I read it in ebook form in Kindle form. At the same time, I purchased an audiobook version of it with someone else reading it. And it read through while I was reading it with my eyes, which I enjoy doing, especially if I could speed it up to the point to where I can get through a book a lot faster than I would on my own.

You're also kind of learning in in two different ways, both visually and audibly, which I enjoy. This is the first time I've done it with an entire book. And I really liked doing it that way. So that's that's a suggestion to you.

One of the one of the books that's out there on Kindle format, it is not a whole lot of attention was paid to it to make it match up completely with the audio book, even though they're tied together.

On the back end of Amazon, you could tell it was a slightly different version. Also, this was a scan scanned book that they didn't go through and correct all the letters in it. So some of the letters come out differently.

You end up with these odd words that show up on the written ...

  • Getting What You Want, Without Manipulation

Power of not overreacting to other people and how it can help open the door to advancing towards your goals and dreams.

    Transcription

Getting what you want without manipulation?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Tonight we are back in the secret headquarters of BrianJPombo.com, and I want to talk with you a little bit about a little secret that I learned years ago. This has made all the difference in my life, and that is how to get what you want, especially out of other people without manipulation.

Now, there's a caveat to this.

The caveat is, it all depends on your definition of manipulation.

Really, if you consider manipulation to be anything that causes a person to do something that they wouldn't have done without your interference, then this doesn't qualify this is manipulation, because it does require interference, but it requires the minimal amount of interference. And I'll show you exactly how that happens.

It goes back to a story I was talking with my eldest nephew and niece, who are both adult age now.

We were discussing, you know, the things that they're looking to do in life, specifically my niece, and we were talking about the things that are holding her back. How it specifically comes to certain people in her life, and how those people are the ones that are kind of holding the keys to what she needs to take the next step in her life, or at least that's how she sees it.

I said, well, really in the end, we got down to the guts of it. And it was a constant frustration that was creating even depression in her because she feels so out of control and out unable to be able to take the next step.

I walked her through it and I walked her through this very simple idea. If you can keep from getting frustrated with people who are angry, frustrated themselves, annoying, manipulative themselves. If you can keep from being annoyed by them, if you can keep if you could just have a little enough distance, mentally, in your own mind, from them and their reactions to you, if you can keep from reacting to them, you win.

And you end up getting everything you want in the long run. Now, in the meantime, what it will cause even decent people, it will cause them to get angrier, to get more upset, to fight you more and fight everything about what you're attempting to do.

But that's only in the short run in the long run, they end up doing what you want, or they become irrelevant in the process, you find a way around them.

This doesn't matter if it's someone that's super close to you. It doesn't matter if it's somebody that's just a one time you know, the person at the DMV, it does not matter.

The important thing is that you do not react to them. If you do not react to them and they react to you, you win. Guaranteed is that manipulation, it's only manipulation, the fact that you don't comply to them.

If you consider that manipulation, then yeah, it's manipulation.

But in my mind, that's not manipulation in my mind, that is me continuing to be me and not allowing you to manipulate me, you say and the same thing with you.

Same thing would be true, whoever it is, it doesn't matter. Your sex, it doesn't matter. Your religion, nothing.

If you can keep from being flipped by other people emotionally, then you got it made.

You can get whatever you want out of anyone or you can find a way around them.

  • Business & Rebirth

Following your passion and not being obsessive about consequences.

    Transcription

    Business and Rebirth.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today is off tonight, we're recording this is Easter Sunday, which has all of these religious overtones and so forth, I'm not gonna get deep into that, because you either are into that, or you're not into that. And if you're into it, you already get it. An if you're not into it, yet, I'm not going to try and convince you.

So that's not where I'm going with this at all. But I would like to take the concept of rebirth of having something new of having a second chance, and multiple endless, not endless, but nearly endless, until the end comes for you know, you've got a life right now in business is what I talk about.

Within business, that's kind of your piece of your calling, I would say there's something that you're meant to do in life. A big piece of that might be the business that you do.

If you're a business owner, if you're an executive, that's what it's all about.

If it's really what your feel like you're meant to do, or you're at least going in that direction, you're following your passion, as we talked about before, if you're going in in the direction you think you should be going, then you got it, you have to have a certain amount of fearlessness, you have to have the ability to risk to a point that you don't care about the consequences.

It's not that you shouldn't be careful, it's not that you should be reckless, but you should not care too much about the consequences, because none of us get out of alive completely, not in a bodily sense, you know, most of us are not, that don't, you know, assume fully in our human form into the heavens.

Most of us are, it's just, we got this little tiny piece of time here, right, we got a tiny piece of time to do what we need to do.

But you got to realize you got chance after chance after chance. If you're living in a semi free country, you have the ability to be able to go out and risk and risk and lose and risk.

You can even owe money to a ton of people and a lot of times bankruptcy is available, these all these things are there to allow you to risk and put yourself out there and try everything you can and just get out there and experience life and do what you think that that you're meant to do, or do what you think that that is possible.

You got to kind of move forward with that. I know I got to move forward with that. There's a lot of things I held back on within the last handful of years. And I'm gonna I'm gonna take more risks.

That's what rebirth is all about. It's all about understanding that no matter what, you got another chance to keep coming back and keep coming back. I won't get too deep into that. But hopefully that makes sense to you.

I've got a book out there it's called, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business. The whole idea is to give you a kind of a starting ground for how to grow things long term and your business to make it completely competition proof.

It's really about the mindset behind the whole thing and the strategies behind the whole thing. You get your own free copy at AmazonProofBook.com.

We're going to be back here tomorrow night with another idea. We're here in my this is this is my Toyota four runner, and I'm going to be coming back to you probably tomorrow from Grants Pass, Oregon hopefully.

  • Do You Choose Your Passions?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YpPtsWYcz0

Some thoughts on following your passions.

    Transcription

Do you choose your passions or do your passions choose you?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

It's gonna be a quick one tonight. We're here on the eve of, well, tomorrow is Easter here while I'm recording this in California. And I was sitting and talking with my nephew about where he sees himself going and everything else.

I've really changed my view on things in terms of passions and where you should be leaving yourself. Jeff Bezos said one time, the Jeff Bezos, you know, the guy that started Amazon.

He said one time that, people try to force interests on themselves. And that really, you don't choose your passions, your passions choose you.

At one time, I may not have believed that. But as I've gone through life, I realize that that's absolutely true, that you kind of have to go with your gut, you got to go in the direction that you feel led to go even when it doesn't necessarily seem the smartest.

Not that you should always run by your passions, but in the same end you can't ignore them, because they are trying to tell you something.

So that's something always to keep in mind is that you've got an instinct, and your instinct is telling you where to go. And this is this is more common more for newer entrepreneurs or people that are looking to get into something, or looking to move on into something else. If you've closed the part of your life, maybe you've sold your business or something, you're looking to go into the next part, you really got to go where your passion leads you not that you need to do what you love to do, but that you don't ignore your passions. You don't ignore what your great interests are.

Because that plays into everything and they're, in my experience, your passions are trying to tell you something, either something you gotta you got to pay more attention to that you should stay away from.

But or it's telling you this is something you should you should head towards. And so I just, that's just a great quote by Jeff Bezos. I wasn't cooling it exactly.

You can go and look up the exact quote, but I just wanted to leave you that thought for tonight. And we'll be back tomorrow night.

In the meantime, go check out my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business. You get a free copy at AmazonProofBook.com. And we'll be back tomorrow night. You have a great night. In the meantime, get out there and let the magic happen.

    Where does your wealth reside?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This here and I'm coming to you from the front seat of my car. This here is a little piece of fake gold that we picked up today going to Columbia, California, which is up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

It is one of the first major locations of the Gold Rush, huge Gold Rush town that was built up and it has been somewhat preserved or built back up in the image of the original town.

It's a state park, I believe, right now and so they have little kind of whole town set up in the old style. You could pan for gold, you know, so to speak, you could do all these different things and see all these displays, kind of like a large indoor outdoor museum, and took the kids there for the first time.

So that was a lot of fun.

When you grow up in California like I did, you're surrounded by this history of the Gold Rush, the forty niners you know, in 1849, all these people rushing to California to get their riches.

And in kind of going over this concept with my wife who didn't even grow up in the United States. She's from Ukraine, originally and going through some of the history of the gold rush and what it was all about.

How so many people got caught up in that idea of going after the gold of their there's this substance that's in the land is if I can just spend enough time and pull this substance out, then I will be I will have all my dreams come true, which is really this great promise of the gold rush.

It's the great promise of the lottery, it's the great promise of, hey, this is the shortcut.

This is the thing that's going to equalize everything, and make my life better. You know, and I think a lot of people go into business thinking that and thinking that they're just, they're digging in the wrong spot, when really what the Gold Rush was really, really showed, if you look into the history is the people that made their money are the people that built businesses.

A very, very, very small percentage of those that went out after the gold actually built systems and built businesses to be able to pull gold out of the ground at a large enough rate that they can make money off of it then and the majority great majority of all the wealth that was created, especially long term wealth, was in plain talk to everybody that was trying to get gold out of the ground.

Very few people gotten enough to make it worth their while or not enough consistently enough to really make it work for themselves.

It's not that there's they pulled so much gold in that short period of time, that there's not any gold left, there's still tons of gold, in California, Oregon, Nevada, all that surrounding area, there's gold, all over the problem is is is the why that the gold is the business, the gold isn't the business.

The gold is merely is merely a substance that can be resold.

But that's substance to find it, pull it out, refine it, do everything you need to do, that takes systems that takes money that takes business, it takes all the things that you need for any other type of business.

It's just a different type of business, then other types of businesses, but it's the same idea. It still takes effort. It takes systemization it takes working with other people, people hiring people with other skills other than yours.
