    What is content marketing?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Let's talk about content marketing, shall we?

    What exactly is it?

This is probably going to turn out to be a series of videos that we end up doing content marketing, when I'm talking about content marketing, I'm talking about the type of marketing that you are using. In essence, infotainment, you're, you're putting out material out there that both entertains and educates.

At the same time, wow, having a marketing message tagged along there somehow somewhere, either in the fact that even if you're just a marketing person, that a person that is promoting a company promoting a brand promoting a cause.

And that just by you being there is the marketing message, it's at its very lightest touch, but at the best case scenario, having something specific that you are leading people into via the content.

So it doesn't matter what the content is something like what you're watching right now or listening to right now. So I'm putting this out both in video format and audio format via podcast.

So it could be that it could be a blog, it could be anything written a book, a physical book, an electronic book, it could be any of those things. That's all content, it, you wouldn't normally call any of those things content, but you call it content when you tack on the word marketing.

Because it's the style of marketing, content marketing is not new, it didn't start with the internet, it's not going to go away once the internet forms into something else or become something different. It's something it's just a style of marketing that has always been present, and has up till now not really been in the mainstream.

But the concept is really simple. If you understand it, if you can deliver value, right off the bat, either in form of just even just entertainment value, if you're able to be able to capture somebody's time, like I'm doing right now with you being able to capture some small amount of somebody's time.

And allowing them to feel like they're getting something in return at education, entertaining, intertainment, anything, anything at all, then you are giving a whole lot of value first, instead of asking straight up, hey, I got this, give me money for it, right?

Whether it's a service or product, or you're or you're pitching your church or anything, it doesn't matter.

Content Marketing is a great way to be able to do any of this, especially right now, since everyone has the ability to get involved in so many different formats of content, which we're not normally available.

Up until a good 1015 years ago, it was not easy to go and get a book out there, it was possible, there was a ways to be able to self publish, but not as easy as it is today. Not as accessible, not as inexpensive, as it is today.

To be able to put out a podcast to actually have a recording of a radio show in a sense, and have people actually listened to it have be able to reach an audience. These are amazing things, amazing formats that we have available to us, YouTube and the video explosion that has happened with that, and the new video sites that are coming that are spinning off of that now that are building up to be competition for YouTube or rumble.com, and so forth.

There's a whole lot of these that I've got to exp...

  • 3 Ways To Control Your Communication With Customers

A look at ways to have more control over communication with your list, beyond dependency on social media.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fqfSH57_x0

    Transcription

Three ways to control your communication with customers.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

We're about talking about three ways to control communication with your customers.

The problem is, right now, in this crazy, wacky world, you can't depend on anything, right?

Especially when it comes to communication with your customers. If you're running through any type of retail situation, like via amazon.com, if you're selling items through a third party website, or through a physical retail location, you don't own communication with your customers.

You've got to go through them most of the time to even find out who your customers are. If you know who your customers are, then quite possibly the place where you communicate with them the most is via social media. Very, very common.

But you don't own that. You don't own any of it.

It can go away at any time you get kicked off at any time you say yeah, but Brian, I'm not political. I'm not this, I'm not that.

And I get that. But you don't know how long that's gonna last. And you don't know, when you'll fall into a situation where I don't know, something crazy happens.

Their whole system gets corrupted, you know, one website, their system gets corrupted, I know they've got backups and everything else. But there's ways that these things can be messed up, there's always a way for something to get messed up.

You don't want to be on the end of that to where you don't have control over it. How do you gain control?

How do you get that back in hand so that you have the direct communication with your customers, it's the one major thing that I harp on immediately when I'm working with a new client is to make sure they have ongoing communication with the customers.

That comes from a list that comes from owning a list having a list of people that you know, have bought from you have their potential buy from you, or eventually may buy from you or bought from you at one time having those lists in place. And having at least one way to communicate with them were the three ways.

    Pretty simple, pretty straightforward.

I can't believe how many companies do not go after these three things. First one email, that's the most common, it's also the one that's the least likely for you to be able to reach somebody.

Because people just ignore their emails, they'll let it pile up. They'll let it self delete, they'll let it go to spam. There's a million things that can go wrong with email, and it does constantly anyone that works with email on a regular basis knows that email is not dependable.

Certainly not for communication. It's something but it's not everything. The two others are major and they get ignored constantly.

Second one phone number. Okay, phone number is very, very uncommon for people to gather. But it is so powerful to have not just because you want to spam them with text messages, right?

That's not what I'm talking about me. You want to be able to communicate via text if they have the ability to, but maybe you you want to send out a broadcast. phone call.

Have you ever done that? H

    ave you ever heard that?

Some thoughts on traveling and just why did Brian decide to use Gumby as an airplane?

    Transcription

Does traveling energize or drain you?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I like to thank Gumby for playing the airplane for me.

I didn't have an airplane to use, so I used Gumby as an airplane. It works, right.

It works, it's the internet, everything works. I'm gonna put Gumby away, he's distracting.

I just got back from a trip, right. By the way, welcome back, This is Brian J. Pombo Live, I'm Brian Pombo and I just got back from a trip.

If you've seen some of the previous videos, you saw me on the road. And where I get to get to do a lot of flying, a lot of running around got to give a speech. So that was fun.

Got to hang out with some really great people and through it all, and also all the chaos that goes along with traveling right?

I missed a flight, so I had to wait a long time pay a bunch more to be able to keep going and get to where I wanted to when I wanted to and that's fine. That's all part of the fun.

It's part of the adventure, I don't mind that. I know a lot of other people though, that it completely drains their energy. For me, it's energizing.

I'll tell you my perspective first. For me, I mean just being around airports, I like the energy. I like the energy of movement of people going places doing things you got sports teams that are there were in their their jerseys and stuff and they're getting all pumped up about going somewhere, just getting back from somewhere.

You've got business people that are in business mode and doing their thing and talking on the phone, you've got people going to visit family and so on and so forth. It's just it's just it's that type of energy. I love it, I honestly do.

I'll tell you what I hate I hate the bureaucracy that has come around flying. I mean, was just this cattle car mentality. And this, you know, we know better just do what we say or will kick you off type of thing.

And you know, put your mask on and do this do that. I know there's a there's safety precautions and everything else. The one thing about the airlines though, is they're always adding on rules and never taking rules away. It's always getting tougher and tougher.

The TSA was a lot tougher at one point to get through. And that they made some concessions as far as getting through there a little faster if you're if you're flying commercial, which I was.

But besides that, yeah, that they'll that part's a pain, I can't stand that everything else about traveling I love going to the I love planning to go to the destination I like driving, I like flying.

I like riding and trains and going on boats, I just I love it all. I really do, I'm really into that. And I don't know if it was the way I was raised. Or if it's something genetic or something wrong with me, that makes me enjoy that type of thing. But I really do like it.

I know a lot of people, it drives them nuts, they hate staying in hotels, they hate being away from home. And that could be you, it may drain you of all of your energy for me, I get back home I'm on I've got more creativity flowing through me, because of traveling.

Because of getting out of out of my normal existence and going somewhere and doing something a little bit different. It gets my creative juices flowing.

Some thoughts on breaking through your comfort zone as Brian touches on a new upcoming addition to our show, when we will be posting interviews.

The secret to breaking through the comfort zone.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

You getting a little bit of a handheld shaky flavor in this episode, because I am holding the phone in my hand. And I just got done doing some future episodes that you'll get to see these will be cut up.

This is the interview process that I've been talking about doing. And I'm not going to reveal who I did it with. But it was a great gentleman and it's going to be a lot of fun to take this and break it up into pieces for future episodes.

I think you'll get a lot out of it. If you've gotten anything out of the videos we've done so far. If you haven't, hopefully, you'll get more out of this one. Because it's not just me sitting around talking about me and my ideas.

This is somebody that I can really dig in and ask them what they think about things, which is really cool. So I'm really happy that that's coming up.

But this didn't come through on its own. This isn't one of those things that just automatically happened, I had to break out of my comfort zone to do it.

Well, just like I did need to do with every podcast that we've started just like I need to do to be able to start doing these on a regular basis, which I never mentioned, we're over 700 videos, okay.

Over 700 videos and audios out there all catalogued over at BrianJPombo.com or wherever you happen to be watching this.

But let's get to the point, how do you break out of your comfort zone, what is one of the main secrets of breaking out of the comfort zone, I found one that works well for me, I don't know if it'll work for you. But across the board the people that I've known that have gotten really good at breaking out of their comfort zones, this is a crucial element.

And it's one that I neglected for a long time. Because I tend to be kind of a do it yourselfer get out there, pound through it, knock your head against the wall type of guy. And this element is having some type of running mate, having a partner that helps out and keeps you on track, and helps push you to do the things that you know that you need to get done. So crucial. If you've got a team of people even better, if you're a business owner that already has a team of people, kudos to you.

But make sure they know that they can get in your face about things and make sure that you get things done, you've got to give them that authority, you have to have people around you that aren't scared of you that are willing to tell you what needs to happen and make sure that it happens on time and gets moving.

Otherwise, it's just natural for most of us to stick to our comfort zones. It's just natural. But you always have to have breaking out points every little point in time, you've got to have the ability to be able to break out a little bit if you got too much growth in a short period of time, you're just talking about suffering.

If you're if you're looking to go beyond the suffering and just just have little tiny bits of suffering, just in order to be able to get your way through just being a little bit uncomfortable.

My way, the ways that I've always had the greatest amount of growth is when I had someone there with me, someone there to keep help keep me on track. My someone specifically that I'm discussing here on a professional level is ...

  • Duplicating Magic Moments

Ever have one of those magical days in life with your friends or family. Some thoughts on how to create that experience over again.

    Transcription

    Duplicating magic moments.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

You could hear a little bit of an echo, I'm coming to you from the indoor pool of the web Best Western, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. So it's kind of a funny location for one of our videos, but I figured this is as good as any the room I'm staying in, I'm sharing with somebody else, and he has already fallen asleep, so I figured I'd come to you from right here.

So I want to talk about magic moments life has those little times those little periods of time that you, they're just magical. They're the type of thing you carry within your memory. They just, they're tough to put words to write. And it's usually when you're with great people, and just having great experience.

Today was one of those days for me, you know, I get those from time to time, usually with family. And every once a while I know people well enough that I can call them family. And these were some folks that I hung out with today.

Instead of getting into the details, I'm going to recommend that you take those moments, and you find a way to duplicate them.

Now how do you go about duplicating them, what does this have to do with business?

Most of the time, we talk about business strategy here, how to take your business, if you're the business owner, if you're an executive, if you're one of the people in charge, if you're the boss, right, and you're the person that's doing things, how do you take that?

And how do you make magic moments occur within business?

Or how do you make your business life allow you to create magic moments that you can selfishly take in your memory from that point forward, right?

It's difficult, it's not the easiest thing in the world. But you really got to think about, what were all the times that I just had these just magical moments, these situations where I was hanging out with people.

I was hanging out with family or people that I consider to be family, and we just had these magical moments, how can I make that happen again, if you could do that, in your own life, fabulous, if you can tie it to a business though, and be able to duplicate it by creating the same surroundings.

You make sure you hang out with the right type of people, or find the right type of people to hang out with. And just put them in a scenario similar to the same way one that you have.

I've done this accidentally initially, just because of the people that I've I've found myself working with over time. But almost all the scenarios, these magic moments, they almost all have similar locations, they have similar details about them, where everything was lined up just perfectly.

If you do it just right, you can allow magic moments to happen what over and over and over again, I'm not sure if this is even making sense. But sometimes it's just hanging out and having a drink with friends.

Or it is being in a distant location where no one's from that area. But you're all in the same area and you're all there together. And for some reason, you just you're able to find that magic again.

It's one of those scenarios, I'm not quite sure if I can it. I'm not quite sure if I can define it clearly. But hopefully I'm getting to some of you that if you can have magic moments,

  • Are You Really The Boss?

Brian shares some fun times he has while flying out to New Hampshire.

    Are you really the boss?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm coming to you live from the parking lot of my hotel room in beautiful Portsmouth, New Hampshire. And I'm visiting some friends here and going to be doing a little bit of business tomorrow.

Having a really good time, hopefully, I think I think I'll have the chance to give a speech and everything. So that'll be fun. The reason why I'm asking whether you're the boss or not, is because I mainly talk to business owners and executives, people who are basically considered to be the boss, wherever you're at, and if that's you, but the real question is, are you really the boss?

Are you really the person that is willing to be responsible and takes what's coming, because today is one of those days. So today actually started on the Pacific coast.

Pacific time, and at about 4am or so.

Probably a little before, I think I got up at 3:30am. And the whole idea was for me to get everything perfectly Ready, go and pick up the gentleman that was coming with me, his name's Steve, and you go to the airport be there on time enough to be able to get on our plane.

On our adventure for the day well, I brought everything out of the house. And I'm not used to being up before the sun and so I brought everything out. I'm also not used to traveling via air, which I haven't done in a while.

So I brought it out and I set everything down, like put everything on that thought I put everything in I my main bag with all my clothes never got into the backseat. So I drove across town, which really is on the other side of town to pick up Steve.

He was running a little bit behind. And so I said, just get ready. I ran back and grabbed my bag again, ran all the way back. Well, it added all in all all the chaos of that ad in about a half hour on and I should have taken over the here's the point. Here's the real point, I should have taken the responsibility from early on to make sure that we got up earlier that we had enough time.

But I wasn't aware that I was going to do that I wasn't aware of that he'd be running behind I wasn't aware of that. There was that they're they're closing the gates sooner than they ever have before.

Since COVID-19, I wasn't aware I haven't been traveling, I had heard that they were closing in a little bit sooner, like 15 minutes, but they closed it a full half hour before takeoff would not allow anyone else in to the gate through the gate into the plane.

A full half hour before takeoff, which was amazing to me. I just had a lot of your going Oh, come on, Brian, where have you been?

But I honestly had no idea. It's been that long since I've been on a plane.

So it was one of those things where you got to take responsibility, and you got to take what's coming to you. And you got to go and deal with it and I did, I dealt with it.

You know, there's a part of you that wants to put up a little fit, but you can't. Because it's life's too short. Right? Life is too damn short.

To put up a fit about silly things that you can't do anything about. You just your learn your lesson, you figure out okay, how will I do this differently next time to prevent the chaos from occurring.

Because of all that, everything got extended, and I ended up in my hotel room about 12 hours later than expected to be...

  • Should I Repeat Myself When Putting Out Blogs, Videos & Podcasts?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeADk65vzr8

The value of repeating your message over time to your market.

    Transcription

Should I repeat myself when putting out blogs, videos and podcasts?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

People ask this question in different ways and it's usually something more specific. It's, you know, I put out these vlogs on YouTube.

What if I say the same thing over and over again, or what if I keep talking about the same subject and everything?

You know, my area of expertise is very small, what if I keep repeating myself?

And so the real question, is it the reason why I'm bringing up this question is because last night, I did a video in which is based on a saying from Dan Kennedy, I thought at the time that I had not done a video about that saying, all I had to do is do a search and find in my videos that I had done a video directly on that saying in a different way.

Is it bad that I repeated myself…and I said the same thing over again?

    No, it's not.

In fact, the real problem with most marketing is that people do not repeat themselves often enough, the likeliness of to have the exact same people seeing that same video, or hearing that same audio hearing that same podcast episode is very low.

Most you know, I don't have the 1,000s upon 1,000s of people listening to these currently, as I'm recording this in March of 2021. Now, April of 2021, I guess we are now we don't have that's not where I'm at.

And even if I did, chances are all those people need to hear the same message multiple times, and they probably did not watch or listen to that episode, over and over and over again.

So they need to hear it again, you need to hear it again, I'm gonna keep saying the same things over and over again, whether it sounds like I'm repeating myself or not, I am repeating myself constantly.

In fact, just about everything that I talk about comes from the three pillars of BrianJPombo.com which is if you recall, if you've caught these videos or podcasts before we talk about how to be relationship reliant how to be system based in reality grounded, those everything is around those three, or multiples of those three, like last night's last night's episode.

So repeat yourself, I don't care how you're doing it, or where you're doing it, you've got to say the same thing over and over, he stated a different way. You can use different examples to show the same concept.

But it's important for you to repeat yourself over and over and over again. Because that's the only way that you can get into people's heads and get the message across.

If you've ever worked that, well, there's a couple a couple different analogies for this one, one of the most common ones is being a parent, if you've been a parent at all, you will know this to be the case, you have to say things over and over and over and over and over. And maybe some of it will stick.

But it has to be there has to be repetition, there has to be consistency.

Number two, if you've been any form of teacher or coach, you realize that you got to repeat yourself over and over and over and over. It's not just because they're children.

This is the same thing as with adults, even more so with adults, because adults are so distracted by everything. beyond what children are distracted by that.

I mean, some have more focus.

Brian goes over one of his favorite old sayings from marketing legend Dan Kennedy.

    Transcription

    They all go lame.

Hi, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live. I'm Brian pombo.

This is a show that we record live on a daily basis, bringing new business ideas, concepts, talk about principles, strategies and tactics in business, specifically for business owners, executives, the people that are in charge. So hopefully it's find you good today.

This is a little lesson that I heard years ago from Dan Kennedy. And it is one of my favorites that I'm surprised I don't think I've ever dedicated an entire episode to this one. But it is it was a big one for me. And it's…we'll see how this hit you.

So Dan is involved in race, in the race track business. And he has he's had horses, and he's raised himself and so forth. And he talks about this term called, they all go lame. It's in reference to horses, they only have a certain span of life to where they're useful on the track.

There's a point at which they aren't anymore, you know, age, injury, everything else that comes comes with the territory, right?

Well, he uses it in reference also to people. Because the plain fact of the matter is, especially if you're an employer of people, or if your fear if your business is dependent on people, which most businesses are to some extent.

And the term, the idea is that they all go lame, that every person has a high point to where they're doing really well. But there will always be a point at which they don't perform at the same level, in that position long term.

It doesn't mean you can't work with them from that point on, but you can't expect the same level of performance their entire life, it's just not going to happen. It's not natural, and plain fact of the matter is, that I didn't quite get and I think it was part of my age, as being a very young and not seeing enough of life and not really having enough people around me kick the bucket is that people die, everyone dies.

It's going to happen, eventually, you will not be able to be you will not be able to depend on anybody. Because in the end, everybody eventually kicks it. Or they go missing or they get, you know,

what's it called, you know, lifted up to heaven, you know, and so forth. It doesn't matter, but they're not going to be here. They're not you can't depend on any human being. We're all flawed. And we're all we all have a body that eventually runs out on us. Right? And so that it's just a fact, they all go lame. And we always get

amazed when someone who has done amazing things, stops doing amazing things at one point, they don't perform whether it be an athlete, you know, your Tiger Woods, your whoever it is it any athlete, eventually, they slow down.

All athletes do that and that's a very specific thing to think about, especially in terms of resources you think of from the physical, but it also comes from the mental, you know, any politician, any, let me think of a business leader.

An example that that Dan uses is, is Michael Eisner who ran Disney and saw the he oversaw the largest renaissance of any company of that size ever, in the history of human beings. Right. And it's a big, pretty big feat for a CEO and eventually, you know, Chairman, CEO, and so forth.

That's a big deal. But eventually, he went lame, eventually, whatever it was caught up, and he wasn't able to perform at that same level when he got ousted.

    Not directly,

Why is content marketing so hot?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

It's a little talk we have on a daily basis, it's recorded live, for your listening pleasure. We are in viewing pleasure to be on whether you're watching the video or listening to us via podcast, we're all over the place, just type in Brian J. Pombo Live into Google or wherever you do your searches and you will find a whole plethora of different places that we disseminate our information into across the world wide web.

So glad to have you back. Let's talk about content marketing.

Content Marketing is hot right now.

Honestly, I was going over every conversation I had with somebody this week that had something to do with with my area of expertise, covered content marketing. And I bet if you're one of those people I talked to this week, you think about it, what we talked about was content marketing, and that was not purposeful. But it is something that I'm seeing a trend on.

Everyone is interested on how to use content marketing and some format, you may be interested in doing a podcast, you may be interested in YouTube, you may be interested in getting your your written work out there into the world.

It's like, how do I go about doing that?

Or how do I how do I invent content for my current business, so that I could take advantage of all of the opportunity of content marketing provides. that's a that's a huge piece of it.

So if you look back, the top videos that I've put out, over the past six months or so have all been content marketing related for the most part, or, or at least doing heavily in business principles.

Or were critiquing some piece of content that's out there.

But it all comes back to content marketing, and all comes back to providing some type of infotainment on a regular basis for your ideal customer that's out there that's sitting out there that they don't know that you're their customer yet, or they're a previous customer, or they're a current customer that needs to be sold more on the concepts that you're providing them.

Even if that means you're you're selling a product, it doesn't matter if it's a product a service or cause you need more content marketing, and right now is the Golden Age, you don't want to miss out on this, because so much of it is free. It's like it's the Wild West. It is the land rush.

Right now, as far as content marketing goes, because there are so many places that you can get your information out there for free, and I don't think this will last forever. I honestly don't. I think it's already starting to be commercialized beyond belief. But that people's time is worth so much.

There are so many different options, that it's going to become more and more monetized not because there's a bunch of money hungry people out there, which there is. But that's not why it's because people only have so much time during the day. And they're going to spend their time with the areas that they spend money on and the things that they value more. That's going to be the people that charge.

It's either going to be you, or it's going to be Facebook, or it's going to be YouTube, but somebody is going to be doing the charging, and is going to be getting a cut. And so you need to find out how to take advantage of content marketing, where it is now.

Thoughts on an old Dan Kennedy line about psychology and mathematics and how they apply in your business.

    Psychology and mathematics.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

What am I talking about, when I'm talking about psychology and mathematics?

Well, it comes from paraphrase of a quote, which I think it came from Dan Kennedy, is where I originally heard it, I have reused it so many times that until I asked myself today, where it came from, I forgotten that it came from Dan Kennedy.

I'm pretty sure that's where I heard it, because he was basically talking about marketing, and how marketing is is nothing more than mathematics and behavioral psychology. But really all business is psychology and mathematics. It really is.

Think about it, and this word came to me today, because I was having a conversation with some entrepreneurs. And I was talking about that it really does all come back to numbers.

Then we start going over some of our favorite books on another topic. And I said, all these books are really just to get you to do what you have to do, which is to get the numbers, get the numbers up.

How do you get multiplication happening?

How do you get addition and then multiplication, and you get enough numbers.

Everything else takes care of itself, it's mathematics.

It's the purest form of mathematics possible. That's what businesses mathematical, it's a very cut and dry thing. The only problem is you're dealing with people, which are predictably unpredictable.

In that case, you have to bring in the behavioral psychology first, it has to be done on you, right, you got to shrink your own head, and figure out what's going on in there.

What's holding you back, would you've probably done if you're a successful entrepreneur, if you're a business owner, or you're an executive of a larger company, you've already had to do that trick, or are constantly trying to re trick yourself into doing what you know you're supposed to be doing. That's psychology and a whole lot of things play into it. I'm not saying, you know, an act of faith doesn't play into it.

I'm not saying that your diet doesn't play into it, those are all part of it. But the whole thing is, is to get your brain to do what you need it to do.

When would you know it's possible. The second part is the mathematics which always have to come into play and they are completely amoral.

Mathematics is money itself is mathematical, it's nothing but numbers.

It doesn't care whether you're good or bad, or anything. It's a mathematical thing. It's add or subtract, it's in and out. That's all it is all business can be broken down into the most basic mathematics.

Then the other part of the psychology is how do you get everyone else to do what you know they should be doing, which is buying your product or services.

Now, if you fully believe in your product and services, and you believe it's going to make a better life, for them, it shouldn't be that difficult for you to go through that process of conveying that message.

But you got to remember, all these different issues that come along with that. You've got to figure out what conversation they're telling themselves. And you've got to enter that conversation through your marketing and you have it has to be constant.
